Great question. But you misunderstand Spurgeon. Spurgeon believes in ELECTION, and that God Elects those people from beforehand to Salvation. This I AGREE WITH.

However we have a new distorted doctrine that has arisen these days, where everyone believes that if you believe you are ELECT. And this is not the case. Only those who continue in the faith overcome. Only those who overcome are Elect. Those who fall away were never elect. At any point in time we don't know in a set body of believers who will ultimately overcome and who will draw back from the faith.
Therefore we are to make our election and calling sure, if we continue in these things.
2 Peter 1
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
