ooooh. I don't know if you have played Super smash bros melee but a new foe has appeared is lightly seen here. In a video game sense, I don't know you well enough to consider you a legitimate enemy, so don't read it that way.
If you are honestly looking for engagement then I pray you will be able to accept that you may be "taken in" by your view. Don't berate yourself or try to hold on to it in an iron grip. "Let us reason together" Can you accept that format? This is the only way I am inclined to respond to you directly but some of my post (as this is a public forum) will be for guests and other users also perhaps.
So if you will allow it, offer a loving critique.
Firstly. "let the flamewars begin!" When we become involved too much with the internet as a whole we may or may not realize that certain behaviors are inappropriate for believers. "flaming" is incendiary by default. A flame "war" would be two sides taking the stage against another in combat. Mock combat, but it also mocks combat. Combat isn't a game, it's war. So while many immaturely think it's "fun", they often don't realize the brutal reality that they are wounding people with words until the damage is done. Maybe they experience some remorse, or maybe not. Maybe they say "well they shouldn't be so sensitive"...when you are deliberately trying to evoke a response? You may not know the reason why they are wounded by this. You may not care. Or you may not have understood fully yet why the word says so much about the tongue.
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it will eat the fruit thereof." Proverbs 18:21
Notice that doesn't just say death but also life and a further modifier on those that love it (the modifier most intriguing but a side trail atm)
Also, we are held accountable for every idle word. Find me the verse if you'd like to confirm, as well as define what idle means. It can possibly mean not at work, and so unfocused, casual, and lacking in attenuation.
I only have a NASB on hand right this moment but here is the verse "
But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgement." Mt 12:36.
I do have a concordance handy though (which goes by the KJV I think) and
idle is from the greek word
Argos. Which is defined as
Inactive, i.e
unemployed (by impl.)
Lazy, uesless:- barren, idle, slow. ~Strong's Concordance KJV ©1995.
Careless makes sense in a way, but notice none of these definitions for the Greek word include careless, but it could be implied.
Carelessly posting could be seen as "lazy" or it could be seen as "useless" (that is of no utility to productive edifying discussion) and "useless" could be seen as "waste" in that waste is typically "useless". When someone is idle they are "wasting time". Or put another way "idling away their time".
Barren would mean devoid of life, like a barren womb. Slow you could guess. I'm not sure why those aren't italicized.
I recall a game where it was a collective activity and if you found yourself with nothing to do, you would call out "idle" and ask someone to move the teleport to a different location so they wouldn't be sitting around wasting time and if done long enough would be considered a "leecher" of others efforts.
So since we are a steward of energy and are held accountable for every idle word spoken. To start a "flame war" would be at best considered poor stewardship and at worst causing strife and dissension (Gal 5:20, Phil 2:3) (Also James Ch 3. I just read the whole thing and ya, it applies to all of us
)
I've had an incredibly challenging time bridling my tongue and yet as I continued to sow and pray for this, the fruit is more readily seen, although just barely and I have a long way to go alas.
Realize I do understand that this is a lot for something seemingly so minor, but with such a short statement casually thrown out here which I can't imagine your desire was not to evoke a response that was "spicy" it would be of benefit to not lead out with that if you are genuinely trying to understand why this isn't a work believers should promote in any fashion. So a lot for one tiny phrase, but one spark is all that is needed for a forest fire and spiritual "arson" shouldn't be treated casually.
It is possible that you did not realize, but like I said, I mean this from a loving perspective. Accept it or not.
I'm pretty tired and frankly engaging HP at this point is off the table. I need rest in order to guard my own tongue from speaking in error. Yes I've read the books many times. I've read some fanfiction and indulged deeply on the "potterverse". I've dreamed it, with all the fleshly imaginative abilities that each of us uniquely has. I'm not going to go into specifics, but all I will say tonight is that I was incorrect that it is harmless. It has doctrine in it, but assuredly not the Lord's.
Scripture is clear on this subject and I do thank that Lord for opening my eyes to it because I was deceived quite thoroughly. Spiritual harlotry is most definitely a thing.
