How does someone know when God is telling them to do something?

When pastor or prophet or a church brother/sister comes up to you and say, "God told me to tell you, you must marry this or that person." What do you do with that information?
I would smile and not tell them what I'm really thinking.

I don't know whether we can always say that because it went wrong it wasn't God...
Oh so sometimes God will lead us into a bad marriage resulting in divorce and sometimes He won't.

And sometimes we will know when God is leading us and sometimes we won't. Oh boy, this is really confusing.

I'm not suggesting that God would lead us into a bad marriage...I just mean that we have a responsibility to maintain relationships, and we can, as humans, make mistakes as we learn.... and when humans make mistakes it's not God's fault... if the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, and we are told to be vigilant then I do think we have a responsibility as Christians as to how we live, and this is for the rest of life until we are with Him... there are consequences to relationships if we veer away from this....

Was she wrong to demand abstinence because she smokes?

Are you saying Christians who have not been delivered from smoking, might as well go ahead and fornicate too?
Not at all!

What I'm saying is that people who are so concerned about keeping their bodies pure before the Lord need to go ahead and put the blunt down.

Sadly, she saw no problem with smoking weed, and actually was involved in pro-drug activism. A HUGE red flag to say the least!

I was an intraveinous drug user for over ten years before I got saved in 2014, and I basically told her that drugs were incompatible with the Christian faith and she blocked me.

So YUP!!!!! NOT MY TYPE!!!!

Which one of these implements would you recommend for catching:
Ha, ha. Funny! :)

Below I've posted 16 "biblical" ways for guys to find a wife (online source). But in these enlightened times, I'm sure the methods could also be used by gals to find a husband. Simply replace "her" with "his", "she" with "he", "wife" with "husband" etc., then follow the instructions. Good luck! ;-)

1) Find an attractive prisoner of war, bring her home, shave her head, trim her nails, and give her new clothes. Then she’s yours. (Deut. 21:11-13)
2) “Lay hold on” a virgin who is not betrothed to another man, and "know" her, but afterwards pay her father a sum of money. Then she’s yours. (Deut. 22:28-29)
3) Find a prostitute and marry her. (Hosea 1:1-3)
4) Find a man with seven daughters, and impress him by watering his flock.--Moses (Ex. 2:16-21)
5) Purchase a piece of property, and get a woman as part of the deal.--Boaz (Ruth 4:5-10)
6) Go to a party and hide. When the women come out to dance, grab one and carry her off to be your wife.--Benjaminites (Judges 21:19-25)
7) Have God create a wife for you while you sleep. Note: this will cost you a rib.--Adam (Gen. 2:19-24)
8) Agree to work seven years in exchange for a woman’s hand in marriage. Get tricked into marrying the wrong woman. Then work another seven years for the woman you wanted to marry in the first place. That’s right. Fourteen years of toil for a wife.--Jacob (Gen. 29:15-30)
9) Cut 200 foreskins off of your future father-in-law’s enemies and get his daughter for a wife.--David (1 Sam. 18:27)
10) Even if no one is out there, just wander around a bit and you’ll definitely find someone.--Cain (Gen. 4:16-17)
11) Become the emperor of a huge nation and hold a beauty contest.--Xerxes or Ahasuerus (Esther 2:3-4)
12) When you see someone you like, go home and tell your parents, “I have seen a woman; now get her for me.” If your parents question your decision, simply say, “Get her for me. She’s the one for me.”--Samson (Judges 14:1-3)
13) Kill any husband and take HIS wife. (Prepare to lose four sons though.)--David (2 Sam. 11)
14) Wait for your brother to die. Take his widow. (It’s not just a good idea, it’s the law!)--Onan and Boaz (Deut. or Lev., example in Ruth)
15) Don’t be so picky. Make up for quality with quantity.--Solomon (1 Kings 11:1-3)
16) A wife?--Paul (1st Corinthians, chapter 7)

How do you know when God is leading you?
The full answer is a long story. The short answer is that He speaks to His children, and He has given us tools and principles by which to test the direction we receive, as to whether it is from Him. :)

You should reply and say, “Well, bless your heart.” Preferably adding a little southern drawl if possible so it’s authentic.

I've found that dating sites are a huge waste of time for me. I put a lot of effort into my profiles/intros to give a detailed explanation about who I am, what I'm looking for in a partner, etc. but very few read before sending a message so I'm answering questions that I had already clarified in my profile. Then, once a promising conversation happens, the topic of sex and intimacy comes up, and when I reply that I'm content with my celibacy, have no libido/sexual desire, do not "take care of it myself", then I end up getting ridiculed and "ghosted".
I’ve encounter the same situation many times, hardest part is taking risk of opening up, being vulnerable in sharing your life with another person, developing feelings and emotions as time goes by only to find out conversations leading up to perversions aka sexting, when in the first place my profile says “looking for God centered relationship”. They don’t get it! It’s a waste investing time and emotion.

How do Christians know when God is leading them to marry someone? Do they hear a voice? Does God tell them in a dream? Or do they get the instruction from someone who has the gift of prophecy?

There are some Christians who declared at the start of their marriage that it was God who brought them together. But down the road they get divorced. What went wrong there?

What about people who made decisions in business and other areas of their life, only to see it go horribly wrong. These same people in the beginning said that God was leading them, so what went wrong there?
Imo, I think this is where our own free will comes in, when we pray and God answers yes, and somewhere along the way, it does not end well, I think bec people fail to “work it out” themselves in accordance to the will of God. We tend to forget that we also need to keep that relationship and most people fail to do their part together, it is both parties.

But still I would like to know how someone knows when God is leading them.

If I have to wake up early in the morning. The proper thing to do, is go to bed early, right? If I decide to go to bed early, instead of staying up late to watch TV. In that sense, I would say God led me to go to bed early.

But what about a situation where I just happen to go into a store on a day when there is a sale, and an item that I needed, I'm able to buy at a more affordable price. I would say it was God who led me into that store, right?

But then, did God really lead me in to the store? Or was He leading me not to spend money on an item that I myself had convinced myself that I needed? But when I saw that there was a sale, I said Yes!!!!! This surely is a blessing from God!

Or did God actually lead me to refuse the gift. Because I aught to use wisdom and know not to have accepted, because this well respected christian man may have ulterior motives.

But it would be good for me, if I can accurately at all times know exactly what

So in one sense, I know when God is leading me. And in another sense, I don't.

I remember when I first committed my life completely to the Lord, when I was 23... I knew I could not trust the Daddy of my baby (in my tummy) but I had no proof. I prayed whole-heartedly, "Please, show me the truth about this man...." and the very next day, the prayer was answered😔and I had proof. I left his house that day, and went back to live with my parents; that baby is 24 years old now. I have had many prayers answered in that time, I have also heard God so clearly and what He said to me came to pass; I have also had times when I thought God spoke to me and it was not Him.... so yes, it can be difficult, but it makes me want to walk closer to Him and seek Him more, and it teaches me to not be presumptuous (I hope🙏🏻).... but when I seek Him with all my heart I know He answers...I am sure this will be the same for you.

“Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, Neither be thou envious against them that work unrighteousness. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. Trust in Jehovah, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on his faithfulness. Delight thyself also in Jehovah; And he will give thee the desires of thy heart. Commit thy way unto Jehovah; Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass. And he will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light, And thy justice as the noonday. Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: Fret not thyself, it tendeth only to evil-doing. For evil-doers shall be cut off; But those that wait for Jehovah, they shall inherit the land. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and he shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plotteth against the just, And gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord will laugh at him; For he seeth that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay such as are upright in the way. Their sword shall enter into their own heart, And their bows shall be broken. Better is a little that the righteous hath Than the abundance of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken; But Jehovah upholdeth the righteous. Jehovah knoweth the days of the perfect; And their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be put to shame in the time of evil; And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. But the wicked shall perish, And the enemies of Jehovah shall be as the fat of lambs: They shall consume; In smoke shall they consume away. The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again; But the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth. For such as are blessed of him shall inherit the land; And they that are cursed of him shall be cut off. A man’s goings are established of Jehovah; And he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For Jehovah upholdeth him with his hand. I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his seed begging bread. All the day long he dealeth graciously, and lendeth; And his seed is blessed. Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell for evermore. For Jehovah loveth justice, And forsaketh not his saints; They are preserved for ever: But the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell therein for ever. The mouth of the righteous talketh of wisdom, And his tongue speaketh justice. The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide. The wicked watcheth the righteous, And seeketh to slay him. Jehovah will not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him when he is judged. Wait for Jehovah, and keep his way, And he will exalt thee to inherit the land: When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. But one passed by, and, lo, he was not: Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; For there is a happy end to the man of peace. As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together: The end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of Jehovah: He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. And Jehovah helpeth them, and rescueth them: He rescueth them from the wicked, and saveth them, Because they have taken refuge in him.”

Hi Kim, honestly it is very hard to tell, what I personally do is, I pray for things, ask for wisdom, and I trust God for his answers. If I have peace of mind and heart I could tell that it is from God, If I have a doubt or hesitation I believe it is not from him. I think being very intimate and daily communion / prayer with the Lord would confirm his will in our hearts, he always want to communicate with us and help us answer things we asked for especially when we earnestly pray about it and trust him. I hope this helps. Recommend if you have time Read some books about hearing God’s voice and prayer would help us more to determine. God bless you kim.

I agree, I have so many instances that I prayed to God and he automatically answers me with a NO. I knew it in my gut, that it is not his will. After awhile it would fall into place and confirm things. seeking God and his will, aligning our ways and thoughts with his, delighting in him and acknowledging him in our decisions are all necessary to hear him closely, but of course there are times that I don’t hear any answers from him, and still patiently waiting. Important thing also is the motive of our hearts.

I have not tried any dating sites but I hear it's full of a lot of scammers on some of them. I personally think I would have to decerned about the type of individuals that occupy my time if I ever try.:)
