Are our Christmas turkeys being raised safely and humanely and what about real mice?

The Bible says human beings are stewards of animals. What are turkeys being fed? And this fall I witnessed the unnecessary suffering of a mouse in a sticky mouse trap, and tried to help it.

Then I saw a happy mouse leap to freedom out of a live mouse trap, and realized sticky mouse traps should be banned.

Children are given many images of mice from Mickey Mouse, to movies about mice, and they might wonder why all mouse traps are not live traps.

It was very upsetting even to me as an adult, to hear a mouse shrieking in a sticky trap. Sometimes people don't understand without actually seeing something happen. I heard the mouse crying out for help. They are similar to larger animals, and the mouse heard me walk in and cried out for help. I panicked because I didn't know what to do, and tried to free it, but the dangerous substance may have harmed the mouse. I tried freeing it's feet with soap, but the substance is merciless, but at least the mouse was able to pull itself into the grass and not die on the trap. This was a very sad unnecessary suffering death of a helpless animal, and it needs to stop. Animals have the right not to suffer, and we as people are responsible for their care and humane treatment.

When I opened a different live mouse trap, a very happy mouse LEAPED to freedom, bounding off some branches, and taking a dramatic swan dive over an embankment to freedom. Mice are mammals like us, and they know freedom when they see it.

I will remember it's dramatic freedom leap for a long time, which made me smile.

Sadly, the first mouses suffering will also be remembered. Please remove deadly mouse traps from your houses this Christmas.

Sadly, I think in this fallen world, some animals must die. But I agree that we can do this humanely.

Turkeys should be killed quickly, and not processed before definitely being dead.

With some things though, whatever you do may seem cruel. For example with mice, I think the traps that kill them instantly aren't so bad. However, these sometimes don't kill the mice and the mice suffer. But if we don't kill mice, we get disease, and other animals die. Cruel.

Another example is converting bulls into steers. There are equal numbers of male and female calves born every year, but as in many examples, the males are not so useful. So for most bulls, the "oysters" are harvested at an early age so they can become steers instead of bulls, and the animal be used for meat when full grown. Rocky mountain oyster harvesting is very painful for bulls, but the alternative would mean that either the oysters are wasted, or that we can't produce steers for meat at all. In this case, none of the options are really desirable, making all choices potentially "cruel" to some group.

Being good Stewards (which we are surely charged to be) does not mean we are not to use what God created for our sustenance, or other purposes. There are some inhumane ways some people/Coroprations utilize to "fatten up" some animals, and I do not agree with this practice, but raising animals for food is perfectly acceptable to God.

As for pestilence, which mice are, there are various ways to deal with them. Some humane, some inhumane, and some people actually consume mice/rats...........

Animals are not on the same level as human beings in Gods eyes IMO. They were not created in His Image, nor do they have eternal souls that will live forever in His Kingdom, or in eternal damnation.

I agree; sticky traps for mice are inhumane. I prefer to sentence them to death by feline. Where that isn't practical, snap traps do the job efficiently.

Animal are not made in image of God, but we do not know about their eternal souls. The Bible does not address this issue, I know. However, the Bible was written for purposes of human salvation, not the eternal life of animals. We should not look for answers on the eternal life of animals in the Bible. God loves and communicates with the animals (they have their own relationship, unknown to man); God directed the animals to come to Noah's ark, one example. Jesus searched for the lost lamb.

Instead of mice traps, just have a cat, who will keep the mice away.
if the mouse is clever, he or she will avoid getting caught by the cat, and not make their home where the cat is.

I have never had to untrap a mouse or use a mousetrap (except making cheese toast sandwhiches) but this is because weve always had cats. I have on occasion had to compost a dead bird or mouse though, but not one that had been trapped.

some traps I am actually fine with like spiders webs and venus fly traps. They are better than spraying insecticide everywhere and killing all the beneficial insects too.

Satan always has traps for unsuspecting humans. The key is to avoid them but we need wisdom. This also applies to things like tourist traps and shopping malls and advertising.

Better think twice before swatting that mosquito or stepping on that ant.

you need to stop being so sensitive. its mice man. they are a pest animal just like rats or mosquitos. God drowned every animal on the planet in noah's flood that means i can put mouse traps if needed.

i am sorry you werent exposed to reality of this world. but you can still learn its never too late. maybe you grew up in the city where animal death isnt normal to be seen in that situations? it says you are from alaska isnt that in the backwoods of the backwoods? strange.. maybe its too cold for mice there lolz

I agree with the op. I do not like to see anything suffer; when I was younger a mouse got into the bathtub, I caught it and took it to a nearby field where I let it loose, but that did not stop me from setting traps, nor does it prevent me from using glue traps , if a mouse gets stuck in it I put the trap into the commode until it is dead. then I remove it.

LEV. 11:29.
These also shall be 'unclean unto you' among the creeping' things that creep upon the earth';
the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind,
30.
And the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole.
31.
These are unclean to you among 'all that creep': whosoever doth touch them, (even)when they be dead,
shall be unclean until the even.

ISA. 66:17.
They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst,
eating swine's=hogs-pigs' flesh, and the abomination', and the mouse', (shall be consumed together), saith The LORD.!!!
====================================================
we must respect our Lord's wishes and commands and orders above our 'own', denying our own selves
and putting (Him First), at any cost to our emotions or preferences-families' - it boils down to obeying Holy Commands,
vs., our choice...
we, each of us always have a 'choice, 'always', and thus we will be required to 'live' with the choices we make,
even if made in ignorance... - we are both living PROOF of this...

Something has dawned on me inmy later years. Not that I was ever one to harm creatures or flora for my pleasure, I now find myself disliking to eat meats or to harm even insects.. It seems unnatural and cruel. Oh, I still eat meat, but it is not like when I was younger, and Isee nothing wrong with humanely slaughtering animals for our food, but I have bdecome deeply aware of life given by our Father at any level. They seem to teache me perfect praise and dependence...nuts? Maybe, but I truly love anything with the breath of our Maker maintaining it.

My cat was having a bonanza day today and caught a mouse AND a bird.
This does not usually happen.

I'm not a fan of killing Gods creatures, but, sometimes I kill slugs. Unlike snails, which the French do eat, slugs dont seem to be edible. They also eat my plants.

I'd like to ask God what He thinks of slugs and what purpose they serve other than as a warning. Are their slugs in the Bible?

I wouldn’t look too deeply into the details surrounding industrial meat production. It’s liable to make you a vegetarian.

and what about real mice?
I generally use no kill traps and then release them somewhere out in the countryside.

But I am merciless when it comes to bugs.

Yep, back woods for sure, but I live in a town now. Many people hunt animals here, but they do not suffer like those mice in a sticky trap. The old type traps end the mouse. What's the difference between a cat caught in a glue trap or a mouse? There's no reason that I can see for those glue traps. It's cruel and unusual punishment.

What's wrong with a live trap? If a child saw a mouse suffering in a sticky trap, wouldn't that effect them for life?

Lanolin For some reason for several days slugs appeared in my house, I have no idea how they got in, unless it was in the tiny hole that allows the gas pipe to go thru the floor? But I took them outside and let them live, we change as we grow older, I spanked my children when they were younger, but if I had it to do over, I would find another way. And your comment wondering what purpose they have reminded me of thinking what purpose do bedbugs and poison snakes, and roaches have for goodness sakes??

I am not sure if it would affect them for life, but I do agree it would affect them. I really was not aware of a live trap? I may see into that. But I have a cat that is a real mouser, she will not eat them but she swats them around until they are dead, then leaves them for me to dispose of. All of my children are married with children of their own, so I do not have to be concerned about that aspect of the mouse population. One thing I do know is that you most definately do not want to ignore them, they will take over your home, and i think that they will chew on your electric wires, perhaps causing a shortage?

The Lord reveals to us how to raise our children in His Holy Bible (totally out-dated/defunct now) -
most of us older generations weren't as severe, but still had a taste in our mouth on what our parents had implemented
in reprimanding our naughty/dis-respectful ways, even in schools', which certainly worked for the good in many an un-ruly,
spoiled rotten, neglected, entitled child -
and then the 'great NEW-AGE-WAYS were slowly being introduced by the 'BOOB-TUBE'= (DR. Spock)??? - who advocated,
(REASON-BARTER-TIMEOUT)!!! with your wild child instead of nipping their bad habits in the bud = for their sake, for their
future, in order to make a way for them to morally function in this wicked-world) and NOW!, we are not only seeing,
but living with the decisions 'accepted' by the 'no-hands-on' generation...
even a Mother Horse will gently kick it foul when it gets out of control'...
