I wonder how Joseph felt. Reduced to stepfather status.
And Jesus as a teenager " you are not my real Father. You cant tell me what to do"......ok ok sorry to offend....
Matt. 1:16 "and Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ."
Luke 3:23 "And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,"
Who was Joseph's father?
Interesting question........was the husband of Mary, Joseph born AND raised by Heli? Sometimes, we can have a birth father but be raised by another man which we bond with as father......
Joseph in Egypt also had a "Jacob" as a father and Jacob claimed Joseph's two sons as his own, even though Jacob was "grandpa" which bypassed Joseph.
So, I'm just pondering your question but have no idea because Matthew 1:16 says Jacob was Joseph's father and Luke 3:23 says Heli was Joseph's father.......They must be one and the same....just one name is Greek and one name is Hebrew......perhaps.
Look forward to your insight!![]()
Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge
by Canne, Browne, Blayney, Scott, and others, with introduction by R. A. Torrey.
Published in 1834; public domain.
Luke, who wrote for the Gentiles, extends his genealogy upwards from Heli, the father of Mary, through the line of Nathan, to David, and from David to Abraham, and from Abraham to Adam, who was the immediate "son of God" by creation, and to whom the promise of the Saviour was given in behalf of himself and all his posterity. The two branches of descent from David, by Solomon and Nathan, being thus united in the persons of Mary and Joseph, Jesus the son of Mary re-united in himself all the blood, privileges, and rights, of the whole family of David; in consequence of which he is emphatically called "the Son of David."
Next question: Was Mary also related to the priesthood tribe of Levi, and if so where is it stated?![]()
Well, Mary's cousin, Elizabeth was married to Zachariah who was a priest so he would have to be a Levi. So, Mary would be a Levi by family marriage however, her father's line would need to be Judah..........I think
Family trees get confusing after a while.....lol!![]()
This brings to mind the differences between the four gospels and their authors. I have discussed at some length that a large number prefer one over the rest myself included. I think it's part of our individual personalities that cause this. More often, people who will admit it, Pick John and I think it's because he had a more obvious brotherly affection for the Lord who was his brother so his understanding was different than say, Matthew (my favorite) who being a former tax collector by trade had a predisposition for statistical accuracy and connected many OT prophecies the fulfillment during the life of Christ. Mark was a humble fisherman and his gospel is short and sweet. Luke was not one of the twelve but he became a disciple after the fact and knew them well enough to write the most complete masterpiece about the life of our lord. Being a Greek physician he most likely had the most complete secular education of them all. Most scholars believe that he (Luke) was a gentile. If we look at Young's Literal Translation we see the genealogy starting in the next verse:
Luke 3:23 "And Jesus himself was beginning to be about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, son of Joseph," 24 "the son of Eli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph,"
Most scholars agree Luke's account is Mary's lineage traced back through David. So, it is saying Jesus was the son (grandson) of Eli through Mary.
Matthew's account was presented just for numbering the generations (see Matt. 1:17). But is also shows that Joseph was from the lineage of David. The following is a commentary reference:

When Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee and fed 4,000 with fishes and loaves on the mountainside and healed and made many whole, he was in gentile territory.
Well, both Zachariah and Elizabeth were from Eli: Luke 1:5 "There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest, by name Zacharias, of the course of Abijah, and his wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elisabeth;" She was a daughter of Aaron.
And also Mary's cousin: Luke 1:36 "and lo, Elisabeth, thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month to her who was called barren;"
I'll let you give the next question.![]()
Theophilus Definition and Meaning - Bible DictionaryHmm.......so do you think Luke might has enjoyed some fish and bread? Interesting......It could have happened.
Luke is my favorite because I like all the extra info and details about the life of Yeshua/Jesus. Matthew is a close second because I love all the parables, then I like John because of all the miracles, spiritual insight and focus on believing, lastly is Mark because of the simplicity and overview summary of the life of Yeshua/Jesus.
It's fun playing Bible Trivia with you, Deade. Always interesting insight and I learn something new!
When is the last mention of Joseph the husband of Mary in the scriptures and how old was Yeshua/Jesus at the time?
My take is that Joseph was known as son of Heli , actually what we call today son in law, the two become one flesh at consummation .. And I agree that Elizabeth's father was a levite and they went by the paternal line .. Was Mary's mother a levite and cousin to Elizabeth through her ? The Levi in Mary's line was not the Levi Jacobs son and perhaps named after one of her mothers fathers in her maternal line .. jus sayinIn the order we have in our Bibles this is the last reference to that Joseph:
John 6:42 "And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?"
Luke 3:23 "And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, " And this was His age.

How long did it take for Aarons rod to sprout, bud, flower and produce ripe almonds
I shoot from the hip and don't mind being corrected .. Moses had put the staffs/rods of the leaders of the tribes and God chose among themActually, they were boils on their bodies. Is Arron's budding rod mentioned anywhere other than Hebrews? I am not aware.![]()
