Christianity Today was founded by Billy Graham, and this article's subject line is:
Trump Should Be Removed from Office

I'm going to read it now....
Thanks for sharing.

That was a powerful and well thought out article. Unfortunately very true as well.

The people still supporting Trump should absolutely read this article.
I have read it and thank you both for bringing it to our attention.

You are correct. Every Christian (Trump supporter or not) should read this article.

It's time to bring a little moral decency back to the leadership of our country. We have none there today.

I just posted the CT article on a new thread.....I suspect that many Trump supporters will simply read the Title and immediately dismiss it. I would ask respectfully that you read the article and cite specific examples of the points with which you disagree so that we can have some serious thoughtful and respectful dialogue.

Did you do this when you posted the article as a supporter of Trump's being removed from office?
Read the article and cited specific examples of why you believe he should be impeached?
No, you did not.
In point of fact in post #121 you posted the article based on the title.
And then stated you are going to read it after you passed it along.

Where was the respect in that?

I think CT, in a respectful way, articulates the negative part of the current president and administration.

I wasn't meaning to be disrespectul, I was merely sharing the editorial as soon as I saw it....

And I did not express an opinion on the content at all. I have now read it twice, but I'm going to refrain from expressing an opinion still because I know how sensitive a topic this is on both sides....besides which I'm not an American nor a dual national so I cannot vote in any case. I am though a keen observer and I am interested in reading the opinions of others, particularly of Americans.

It’s not very uplifting, at least not in the case of having a political debate, to notice how polarized people are over politics as of now.

Trump has done both good things and bad things. Economically speaking he has played his hand well. On foreign affairs not so much. On moral behavior not at all.

In America we are mostly concerned about the economy, like most people across the world. If a president keeps providing jobs, he’ll get re-elected in most cases.

If nothing changes dramatically before the general, I’m sure Trump will be re-elected. His moral standards will not be held against him if he continues to get results economically.

The question is whether we want a president having some sort of moral standards, or a street smart fixer.

The biggest problem with Trump is that he, like CT pointed out, has lowered the bar so much that we now find felonies to be acceptable in the USA. That’s not a good thing civilization wise.

If this had been put out by the Washington Post, New York Times...or any other mainstream publication regarded as being leftward leaning and liberal, then I think the impact would be zero, zilch, nada, nothing.

The fact that this editorial is being put out by Christianity Today claiming to reach over 5 million Christian leaders...founded by Billy Graham no less. To me that is significant, and that's why I'm interested in reading the opinions of others.

I have always believed that the President should at least try to emulate a role model for the youth of our nation. Selfish, greedy dishonest people need not apply. But my parents were brought out of poverty and the depression by the new deal which has had opposition from the right from day #1, in 1933. I support the morality of those who oppose abortion and gay privilege's but I oppose the federal reserve bank and the national debt. I support more federal regulations on banking and wall street. I'm pro environment and I oppose any candidate for President that never served in the US military. There is also the mental health aspect.

Straight from the Diagnostic Statistics for Mental Disorders 5th edition:

Narcissistic Personality Disorder DSM-5 301.81
Symptoms

The DSM-5 indicates that persons with NPD usually display some or all of the following symptoms, typically without the commensurate qualities or accomplishments:

  • Grandiosity with expectations of superior treatment from other people
  • Fixated on fantasies of power, success, intelligence, attractiveness, etc.
  • Self-perception of being unique, superior, and associated with high-status people and institutions
  • Needing continual admiration from others
  • Sense of entitlement to special treatment and to obedience from others
  • Exploitative of others to achieve personal gain
  • Unwilling to empathize with the feelings, wishes, and needs of other people
  • Intensely envious of others, and the belief that others are equally envious of them
  • Pompous and arrogant demeanor
Does that sound like anyone we know about?

Even as a military member (Canadian) I can't say I would take issue with anyone who dodged mandatory military service during the Vietnam war. But I do have a problem with someone who doesn't serve and then denigrates others who did.

Some have said God uses imperfect people and cite King David as one example. David with his flaws still went into battle against a giant with no armor and just a sling, he didn't claim bone spurs. One could look at Joseph's brother's. While God used their evil act for a good purpose, I don't believe one has to support what they did....if they had been more God fearing and righteous and not sold their brother into slavery God still would have fulfilled His promise to the Hebrews.

God uses both the righteous and the wicked to fulfill His promises, that doesn't mean God would want people supporting brothers who do what was done to Joseph in my view.

Evangelist Billy Graham was one of the key founders of the online publication, Christianity Today. For the Editorial writer to invoke Graham in this Leftist slur against Trump is something that did not go unnoticed.
Franklin Graham: My Father 'Would Be Very Disappointed' in Christianity Today

Also, it is a matter of contention as to whether or not Trump was Impeached by the House. The House has not yet sent the articles to the Senate. According to the rules, failing that it is not a true Impeachment.
Who's holding it up?
You guessed it. House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi.
Who just invited Trump to give his State of the Union address from the floor of the House in February.

I hold no animosity against people who registered as conscientious objectors and or avoided a fight that they opposed. They can earn an honest living, pay taxes and be assets to their communities as well or better than many Vets I have known. But as a qualification for the Commander in Chief of the worlds most powerful military, I think it's as important to learn to take orders as well as give them. Respect for the uniform and the walking wounded is of paramount value to an upcoming national leader.

Including the likes of Saul, Solomon, and Jeroboam God has used national leaders to punish and sometimes bring a nation to ruin for turning away from Him and following the ungodly desires of their collective hearts. The nation should repent. I however doubt if it will. So I pray for our leaders but only support what I feel is correct in Gods eyes. If the letter of the law of men contradicts the spirit of the law from The New Testament. I object!

Titus 3:1-8 New Living Translation (NLT)
Do What Is Good
3:1) Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. 2) They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.3) Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other.

Steven, Paul, Peter, Luke, John and Timothy... Never bowed or bent a knee to Caesar and after they were ordered to shut up about Jesus and to stop teaching the way, they went straight to the churches they founded and preached the truth. The curse of the law did not stop them. It shouldn't stop us.

That's a good point that, as a Canadian, I hadn't considered....the role of the POTUS as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. Its been so long since Canada had a Prime Minister who served in the military. Pierre Trudeau was the last to have any military experience and his wasn't much.

I was laughing about this> by H.L Mencken; "It is even harder for the average ape to believe he had descended from man." Very clever!

Anyways, are you so jaded or polarized that you cannot recognize that the road has a center lane. All is not strictly right or left. I'd rather see a compromise between capitolism and socialism with love and kindness than either extreme. The Washington post and New York times are not liberal propaganda, But when the emperor has no clothes it's there jobs to point it out. All the rest about impeachment is a dog and pony show. It only serves to further divide us and not unite us. It's disgraceful in my opinion and I seriously doubt if it will accomplish anything, for the good that is.

NYT isn't liberal propaganda? NYTimes is Liberal. George Soros, who hates Trump, owns a huge percentage.
The Washington Post is also Liberal.

There are no true grounds for impeachment of president Trump. It's a distraction. And I've said for a long time that there should be something , besides the vote, that the American's these people represent in this catastrophe on parade, can do to stop this. And hold those responsible for this soft coup , sedition, effort accountable by law.
They are the one's that should be impeached from the House.
