. I believe December 25th is actually the winter solstice and the day of the sun god worship
Yes it is. The worship of Sol Invictus.
Roman Emperor Aurelian made this date on the 25th December 274 AD as a cult along with other Roman cults. There may have been some influence as a result of the Persian cult of Mithra.
If memory serves me it was Constantine who would have been brought up under the above cults, in 336 declared it date to celebrate Christmas.
Not to celebrate pagan rituals/holidays but replace it with Jesus and his birth.
I have read that the early church observed December as early as 125 AD as the birth of Jesus.
This was as a result of the Romans celebrating Saturnus (harvest god and Mithra)
Which as said above Aurelian commanded in 274 AD concerning Mithra.
There is other references that the early church started celebrating Christmas in 204 AD
At the end of the day we all know Jesus was not born in December?
At the end of the day does it matter if we do celebrate Christmas in December?
If we knew the exact date would we celebrate it?
There is lot out there that would link Easter to cults as well.
Celebrating Christmas in rememerance of our saviour coming in the flesh with the purpose to reconcile us to the Father, is that wrong?
Is it wrong to give gifts, eat a meal and rejoice and be thankful to him?
I think not.
So I will celebrate it because it's not celebrating a cult.
