REAL eggnog, with REAL eggs and REAL nog and NO cinnamon???!!! Why, this is a (17-syllable word I've never heard of that means something like tragedy, unbelievable, and downright criminal all at once)!!!"
"Never look a gift horse in the mouth."

By the same token, "Never read the ingredients on a carton of egg nog you didn't bring." Either I'll drink it or I won't, but I'll only criticize what I brought, if I think there is something lacking about it.

We will drink responsibly till the bottle is empty.😜

Sorry, I’m really trying to be on my best behavior here, but my true colors can’t be hidden.
I cant imitate Suzie's humour. its too good.
I might be able to imitate her drinking ability though.....well 20 years ago I could...

I debated whether to share this story in another thread, but this one suits even better...

My staff Christmas party was held recently. At each table there were four bottles of wine. My table initially had five others plus myself. As people started to leave, the stragglers joined our table, and brought the bottles from their tables. The wine was paid for already, and we couldn't taken from the premises, so a small group of us stayed until all the bottles were empty (and for the record, I drank only water the entire evening).

"Seoulsearch imagines Susanna will have a few choice words for her along the way, but it will all be in French with that lovely French accent, so as far as Seoulsearch is concerned, Susanna can say whatever she wants!"
Oh, I should not be trusted to say what I want. My mother used to say ‘What is it with you and that mouth?’ when I was using a language young girls shouldn’t be using.😁

Quote from a book I read:

"The other day I found a picture of you, me and Charlie. Charlie looked benign. You looked pensive, probably trying to figure out which of the bottles still had any booze in it. I looked like I just drained the last one."

There would be no booze at an AA Christmas party or meeting :giggle::giggle::giggle:Not even a "near beer" ;):D

We would have to work out some kind of arrangement for our non-alcoholic friends as well... Maybe there would be an after-party for those who wanted to drink.

I'm not sure what social planners do for events when mixing those who drink and those who don't? Or would separate events need to be planned? (I see this as an opportunity for the thread to not only be fun, but educational too.)

And, I certainly have no condemnation for those who struggle with alcohol.

If Dino's story was about good chocolate that had been paid for and couldn't be taken off the premises, you better believe I'd be one of the people who would stay until every last box was empty (much to my detriment!)

OneOfHis would sit in the corner and start about three dozen stories and five dozen jokes, then reconsider halfway through and not finish any of them. :p

(Getting back to trying to think of what other CC'ers would say...)

I'm pretty sure that if @CharliRenee walked onto the scene, she would say, "BAM!!! Now THAT'S how you decorate for Christmas!"

I know what seoulsearch would be doing... Buzzing around, trying to make sure everybody was enjoying the food and conversation, and she would totally forget to enjoy the party herself.

If @Magenta were attending, we would have to make sure that at least one corner of the room was decorated in all purple, of course!!

That's why I stick to just WRITING about parties the forums!!!

This thread is hoping to accomplish the same sort of thing -- introducing and welcoming people, helping them get to know one another, jingling and mingling, except that it's MUCH less taxing on my naturally overly-introverted self.

For the record: I have never had a problem as an abstainer, being around people who do not. In fact in my early days of sobriety, I still went to the bar regularly, because I loved singing karaoke in those days, and where else can you do that?:giggle::devilish:

The desire to use had been completely removed. A miracle (y)

I know, I know... we have to make room for people. We also have to make sure the comestibles are dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free, egg-free, GMO-free, meat-free, etc. ad nauseam.

Or we could just advertise "Free food!" with some very tiny print at the bottom....

Lynx would sing all the verses to all the Christmas Carols to 5 different arrangements that no one else had ever heard.

Touche!

Lol!

You make an excellent point.

I guess we'd just have to have some kind of "Bring Your Own Everything And Avoid Anything That Causes You Trouble" Party.

Would that technically still be considered a party?!

Hmm... Dino seems like the kind of person who is not really pushy, but just happens to know a lot about... whatever the topic of conversation is. He wouldn't dominate it, but he would have a lot to contribute.

cinder seems analytical, not very talkative in real-time, but not averse to listening to others talk at a party. She would probably be sitting in the corner sipping tea, tracking the interesting parts of the conversations on either side of her, while part of her brain is planning what she should make for the next party. You know how thick and fast the parties come in December.

Cinder's date would be her laptop.

(I'm right there with you, sister.)

These days, my phone is pretty much mine.
