Am I intolerant and a racist?

If we will automatically shun others because of anything, then can we truly say we are followers of the one who didn't do that, Jesus? He said several THINGS were wrong, but the Bible seems to say he did not reject PEOPLE who were actually doing those things. The Apostles even tell their churches that some of them were those kinds of people.

When Jesus spoke of loving our "enemies", is there anyone here who thinks he was only speaking of "enemies" the way we use that word today? Or, when He spoke of our "neighbors", was He only speaking of the people we live next door to? To both questions, I say He meant the rest of humanity.

This is but a tiny exerpt from a book that speaks directly to this subject, Everybody, Always by: Bob Goff.

"Jesus told His friends if they wanted to be like Him, they needed to love their neighbors and they needed to love difficult people. This sounds so familiar that I’m tempted to just agree with Jesus and move on, but Jesus doesn’t want us merely to agree with Him. In fact, I can’t think of a single time He gathered His friends around Him and said, “Guys, I just want you to agree with Me.” He wants us to do what He said, and He said He wants us to love everybody, always."

Yes Ghoti2. I think the real intolerance is when we think the best of ourselves and our opinions and the worst of others. It is not just that we disagree with people, but that we have to make them bad, or evil for holding a different position.
To love them means we treat them as we would like to be treated. We can have opponents but they don't have to be an enemy.

It's refreshing that your definition of "tolerance" is the real definition. Unfortunately, it's not the one that the PC or L++ communities use.

Theirs is typically, "You will be forced to embrace and actively support my position, while I do all within my power to make your position marginalized, isolated, and outlawed."

Hey Dino, we may agree on something!:)

I dislike some on the so called progressive left and their intolerance too. The no platforming at Universities and in the public sphere is very worrying. We live in troubled times where tolerance can used intolerantly.
