I know this is controversial but it’s been posted with the motive of
understanding and not blame.

I came across this news article about Japan and the torturing of Christians
in earlier centuries. I never knew this before.

Apparently the Pope is going to Nagasaki to pay tribute to those killed by the atomic bomb.
But also to those tortured for their faith. It’s an interesting article if you have the time to
read it. The practice of stepping on christ was widespread in the 17 th century and if you
refused you were tortured for your faith.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-50414472

Apparently Christians were forced to walk over images of Jesus, and were tortured, with
doctors on standby to make sure they didn’t die, were then nursed back to health to be
tortured all over again.

It got me wondering about the following verses in the bible

Zechariah 14:12-15 NKJV
[12] And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people
who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet,
Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths.

[13] It shall come to pass in that day That a great panic from the LORD will be among them. Everyone will seize the hand of his neighbor, And raise his hand against his neighbor's hand; [14] Judah also will fight at Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations Shall be gathered together: Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance. [15] Such also shall be the plague On the horse and the mule, On the camel and the donkey, And on all the cattle that will be in those camps. So shall this plague be.

Christians have been tortured for their faith for centuries. No surprise there..

And images of Jesus are just that--images. They don't properly represent Him, since no one knows exactly what He looks like.

I do not believe this will be caused by nuclear weapons.. The army of the beast will be sent crazy and they will start to kill each other.. The plague that strikes them can be caused by Gods power without the need of human built nuclear weapons..

Nuclear weapons could well be used in the Wars and talk of wars leading up to the end times.. But i do not believe the Bible says they will be used at the end..

Hmm not sure but the fallout from the nuclear bomb is like a plague.
Its not just affecting japanese though loads of people worldwide are getting cancer these days. A lot of it is from consuming food sprayed with chemicals, which happened increasingly after WW2. The germans developed agrichemicals, which were originally used as weapons. Even the US used them in Vietnam, as agent orange remember.
Now the govts are paying farmers to use them up and poisoning the next generation and the land slowly.

The Bible deals with our sinful condition and Gods remedy for it. It promises reward for righteous behaviour and warns of judgement of living and dying in a sinful condition separated from God. Its promises and judgements apply to every generation past present and future. So picking out specifics that apply only to our generations is out of sync with the whole purpose of the Bible. The Bible should
not be read like the writings of Nostradamus or Old Moore's Almanac

Thanks for your responses.
I realise that images of Jesus aren’t the same as actual Jesus.

But if someone painted a representation of Jesus and said you must walk
across it as a way of denying Christ - would you. I think it’s more difficult than
just thinking well it’s only a gravel image. As the people in the article were
asking Christian to do this as a way of showing they were denying Christ.
It’s not so much he walking on the image, but why the tortured were asking
people to do it.

An example is the statue which everyone had to bow down to in the bible.

The Zechariah verses are pretty dramatic.
I went to visit the Royal Armouries a while back, they had a display about the
dropping of the bomb. It was very disturbing. They had a room covered floor to
ceiling in Panaramic photos of the scene after the bomb.

The entire city was flattened and there were scorch marks where human being had
been literally burnt up where they stood.
There were exhibits or melted roof tiles from Hiroshima turned to glass. Apparently those roof tiles have to
exceed 1000c to melt.

Further away from the immediate blast they found pieces of clothing with zips and buttons
melted. Children’s toys melted and other things,

I’ve managed to find a few images.

It wouldn’t take much to imagine how flesh and skin would literally be destroyed
where people stood, as described in Zechariah,

Child’s tricycle

Melted roof tiles

Aftermath

many also suffered blindness and cataracts due to the intense heat and light flash.

Oh one other thing which came to mind slightly off topic.

The incident at Chernobyl where the nuclear power plant exploded.

Did you know that translated Chernobyl means wormwood, it was so called due to
the plants growing in that area.

https://www.answers.com/Q/Does_Chernobyl_mean_wormwood

Where does the name Chernobyl come from?

"Chernobyl" is the Ukrainian word for a species of wormwood. Although Chernobyl is now known for the nuclear disaster which occurred there in 1986, the city was built and named back in the Middle Ages.

Revelation 8:10-11 NKJV
[10] Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. [11] The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.

Notice where Wormwood comes from? To me this describes a meteor impact that will devastate 1/3rd of the worlds surface.. A side effect of a meteor impact is the creation of a lot of sulphuric acid.. which after the impact comes back down to earth and contaminates the water supply..

I conducted a scripture search. This was interesting.
