We have freedom in Christ. On the other hand, if YOU think it’s sin, then to you it’s sin if you do it.

I think certainly acceptable. It’s one thing if it’s like for a Christian services play or something where you’re specifically taking out the “true meaning of Christmas” and replacing it with the commercialism.

In THIS case you are not only providing gifts and joy to little ones, but you also get to experience their gratitude first hand. That to me is well worth it. And kids aren’t being “indoctrinated” with Santa at that point. Just seeing a Santa. And heck if you wanted to you could add a sprinkle of “make sure you thank Jesus for your gift when you pray tonight” kinda deal.

IMO, no because you’re giving these children false perception idolic ideas that a man dressed in red will provide them gifts and toys - bearing in mind if they’ve been “naughty or nice”.

Our main concern as Christians is to share with non believers the Gospel of Christ and that we find our hope and answers in Jesus Christ alone.

Since I'm a woman who looks like a woman, I'll probably never be asked to play Santa. But if I were, I would do it. And I would probably draw heavily on parts of the book the autobiography of Santa Claus to present a very Christian Santa (after all Saint Nicklaus was a Bishop) who's motivation is to share the love of God with people and remind them that someone cares for them. Which in my view is what playing Santa for a bunch of needy children is really all about anyway.

My pastor looks a bit like Santa I wonder if hes ever been asked. I dont really know if he plays santa or not for his children or grandchildren. Something to ask.

When I worked at the public library, one of my team leaders played Santa. The childrens librarian read christmas picture books.

I remember having my photo taken with Santa when I was 3. But I had no idea why or who he was or what I was meant to wish for. My older sister indoctrinated me into the whole Santa thing, which was then embellished by american movies that perpetuated the current myth. (Flying reindeer, elves, north pole etc)

Just remember we christians are already called to be saints and we can be saints to needy children anytime of the year. Saint nicolas was just one of them who had big heart. In the UK he is called Father Christmas. SPOILER Everyone knows he's really your dad.

Sorry folks. I tried this year, I really tried to keep it all in one "Holidays are PAGAN!" thread. But I misspelled "Holidays" in the title, so I guess nobody notices it.

Haha.

When I read the thread title I felt for a moment like bumping up my ‘Why I love Christmas’-thread from the ancient year of 2013 or 2014😄.

Make sure you spell out ‘Holiday’ correctly the next time😜.

i have no problem with Santa lol. my parents told us from the start Santa Claus (as in the character who travels all around the world to deliver presents to children by coming down the chimney) isn't real, but my parents didn't mind it when the school i went to as a kid had pictures with Santa taken. since i knew at an early age he wasn't real, i don't have the "i remember when i found out" story. i do know some who were devastated when they found out Santa wasn't real.

I enjoy the spirit of Christmas but always remember Jesus is the reason for the season! I wasn’t happy when my ex spoiled Santa Claus when they were little all because she didn’t want to lie. It ruined some fun but I let it go.

Anyway. Current sources of santa myth come from 'twas the night before christmas' by CLement Clarke Moore. He was american and also apparently a christian Bible teacher. So...best take it up with him or his descendants.
