Generally people are far more interested in other peoples' sins than their own. Lets face it..finding fault in others, gives us a vacation from focussing on our own. So before you start trying to change the world, clean your room. (As JP would say...the Canadian pychologist)

Some people cant read ;)
Well, i guess it's better than being a simpleton, if that's as much insight as you can offer to all the points being made, ...not to mention how easy it actually was to overlook gb9's comment for either 'by' or 'for' is still erroneous in the context to what was being said.
As in, doing good works still requires refraining from doing bad ones.

Well i think the post was about the reality of Christians becoming too introspective in there walks with God, this can be dangerous at times, because its a distortion of God's Love in the gospel and if we focus on ourselves all the time, we will miss the power of sanctification that is enabled through focusing on upon Christ Jesus (faith in Christ makes us righteous, not morbid introspection all the time).

This is important because the truth of Jesus Christ sets us free and grace alone empowers us to Godliness and Good Works, which brings glory to God and is loving our neighbor.

Satan is our enemy and will try to make us focus on sin too much, so that we miss this awesome freedom and service to God that we have in Jesus Christ.

Satan btw is very agressive at times in his assault against Saints, so we must be ready, as Christianity is not just a relationship with God, but a literal war.

Matthew 1:21 Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

21 and she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.'

As Yeshua's/Jesus's name is, so is his Mission, to save his people from their Sins. Until Sin becomes exceedingly Sinful, you will continue to Sin being unable to recognise the seriousness of the offense.

Well Flint, I don't believe that your 1st comment to me reflected what you just said now?
Your 1st comment was nothing but a disparaging remark?

I believe that Flint's remark had Trump written all over it, which is why I said what I said. Please tell me that you agree that his comment was completely unnecessary, unhelpful, uninsightful and meant to injure?

Maybe it was (most everyone's comments here usually are), but I was just so proud to see you acknowledging a misreading, and seemingly just dropping it...….. then it, unfortunately, continued.

The only people who seemes to be focused on sin, are legalists puffing themselves up denying they do not do it, and judging others who believe christ paid it all as people who love there sin

the rest of us are trying to apposed them, while preaching true sanctification through faith love and mercy

Just take a look at all the threads on Christian forums (including this one) about sins and sinning. It has become an obsession. At the very least an unhealthy preoccupation. The focus should be on righteousness, holiness, fruitfulness, and sanctification.

The Gospel is meant to be a cure for sins and sinning. Christ sets one free from the Law of Sin and Death. Repentance is a necessary part of the true Gospel. Separation from sin and evil is the essence of sanctification. And God commands His children to be as holy as He is.

It would therefore appear that Satan has entered into the churches to deliberately cause Christians to focus on the disease rather than the cure. And preachers have increasing failed to preach the full and true Gospel of Christ. That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures so that we would be raised to walk in newness of life, after becoming children of God and new creatures in Christ.

Turning away totally from sins and idols is the essence of repentance. Many new converts in Ephesus (while Paul was there) made a bonfire of all their occultic treasures. They sent up a whole vault of cash in smoke, since they were turning their backs on magic, sorcery, and enchantments. The same principle should apply in every genuine Christians life. We are to make a bonfire of all our past evil thoughts and deeds, and focus on serving God and Christ with a pure heart.

God gives the gift of the Holy Spirit to each and every sinner who repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ. But the condition is that one must repent and be converted. That is when our sins are blotted out. That is exactly what Peter preached in Acts 3:19,20: Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you. Which means that from the point of baptism (which must be immediately or very shortly after conversion) , a new person should be walking around with the focus on righteousness, holiness, and fruitfulness.

The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to all God's people, which means that every believer has at least one spiritual gift. But unless that is exercised, it is of no use to anyone. And perhaps if the focus of Christians and their churches would be on spiritual productiveness (which includes winning souls and then discipling babes in Christ) there would be little time left for focusing on sins and sinning.

The mind is the battleground where spiritual warfare is waged. And the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. Therefore Paul made it crystal clear in Philippians 4:8 that our minds should have a very clear focus:

Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
ifthere be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,

think on these things.
Hi N6, I can appreciate the principle of having a positive and favourable attitude in attempting to achieve a goal, and for that, your insight is very accurate and productive.
My initial perspective was , what' the difference between saying 'don't be selfish' as opposed to 'be selfless'. I think that both thoughts elicit the same action, an effort towards Christian ethics.
But again, in certain cases your position may offer a more encouraging attitude, in that regarding something that needs to be corrected, has a negative and underdog connotation to it, it's coming from a spirit of weakness.
Whereas conversely, perceiving the victory and strength that Christ offers to his faithful adherents, invokes a spirit of confidence and fortitude i.e. if Christ is for me, who can be against me.
Sorry if my initial post may have failed to appreciate the nuance of your insight.
The 'gaining the prize' attitude, as opposed to the 'removing the dirt' disposition, it's definitely an effective discipline to consider when striving to reflect the image of Christ!
