Good call mentioning U2, Magenta. I always liked this song from that album too. 
A friend of mine gave me a DVD of their Elevation tour following the release of All That You Can't Leave Behind, (1998–2002) and I wore it out watching it Another gem, to be sure. I had lost interest during their Zoo TV and Zooropa, Pop and Pop Mart stage, even though Zoo TV was the highest-grossing North American tour of 1992, earning US$67 million... but ATYCLB redeemed them for me, being beautifully stellar Rolling Stone called ATYCLB U2's "third masterpiece" alongside The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby.Blue Rodeo was also a fave of mine. I do prefer some of their 90s music better, but these two songs from
the 80s were great
I used to call the two main guys (Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor) "Smarmy" and "Scruffy."^ ^ Originally from their 1987 "Outskirts" CD, and this title track from Diamond Mine (1989):
Another great Canadian band from the 80s (formed in 1984) that produced even better music in the 90s was The Tragically Hip, who took their name from a Michael Nesmith (of The Monkees fame) skit in the movie Elephant Parts. Their 1989 CD, Up to Here, spawned a few hits ("Blow at High Dough", "New Orleans Is Sinking", "Boots or Hearts", and "38 Years Old") and established them as a dominant force in Canadian rock music, though they failed to achieve significant international success with their first albums. In the week ending October 19, 2017 (the day following the announcement of Downie's death), Yer Favourites rose to No. 2 in the chart, with another 10 albums moving to the Top 200. Streaming also increased 700 percent, and many of The Tragically Hip's top hits remained on the Spotify Canadian Viral 50 as of October 23, 2017.
