you might be surprised, but then again maybe not, at the number of people who in ignorance of both the word and just how spiritual gifts work in general, who run around looking for someone to 'give them a word' rather than cultivate their own relationship with God and therefore be able to find direction from the Bible and be led by the Holy Spirit
Inquiring of the Lord through a prophet was specifically allowed in the Old Testament and the New Testament does not forbid asking if someone receives a word from the Lord to share it. Paul encouraged prophesying and sharing revelations in our church meetings. That's in there. There is no command to sing three hymns, have the pastor preach a sermon, and many other things many Christians think are absolutely necessary to church.

It is also possible that the Spirit might reveal to an individual that he has given another a prophecy or some other sort of revelation.

I read a Facebook post by someone who wrote for a certain period of time, the Lord would speak to her direction and not through other people. But she went through a time when she could not hear God directing her directly, but she only heard God through other people. We do see in I Corinthians 12 that we are members of the body and we are to minister to one another.

and there are at least a couple of people here, not pointing at a denom but individuals, who have the weirdest take on the meaning of just about anything in scripture.
Not naming any names here, I noticed that, also.

mind you, people have been known to have said 'God showed me this or that' in order to get around the fact the Bible is not their personal property

I tell you what. personally, I would run far and fast getting away from someone who gets in your face and tells you that 'God told me to tell you'...trademark of those who wish to control through an unholy spirit
There are many people who need to take the whole false prophecy and bearing false witness of God much more seriously. False prophecy can be damaging, but we are to prove all things and hold fast to that which is good.

... and serious differences over what it means.
The fact that there are serious differences over what it means is good evidence that this has not been fulfilled yet...evidence that we still know in part. If we knew fully we would all be in agreement as to what it says.

If this has been fulfilled, then we know so much better than Paul did when he wrote I Corinthians that his understanding was a child's by comparisons. That interpretation puts the reader in a superior position to the apostles who wrote scripture.

Or it simply means that men's hearts are cold and far from God. They still desire to change that which God decreed in order to make the word say that which pleases them instead of God.

As a general principle if we feel lead by God to say something and resisting saying it is causing our conscience to feel guilty then we should say what we feel lead to say no matter what the consequences.. So if i was on a forum i would say what i felt lead to say and if they banned me then so be it..

ok I consider yr response a reasonable answer

but how do people who have not been taught or improperly taught, hold fast to that which is good?

I'm currently reading a book entitle 'Authentic Fire' by Michael Brown, PhD...sub title 'a response to John MacArthurs 'Strange Fire'

MacArthur is going to have to answer for his attacks and nonsese spewed out against anyone who speaks in tongues, but the goings on in so many churches that practice the gifts, or think they are, have just as much to answer for IMO

no accountability

and again, I am not a cessationist but I have a few of my own horror stories of abuse regarding the practice of attributing all things to God without questionning

my best advice would be to study and study some more Scripture and make sure what you see and hear lines up with the written word

so so much does not

You know full well that the name cessationist does not properly describe a biblical understanding of 1 Cor 13:8. There is no point in relitigating the argument. Three gifts ended the rest continue.

I do not need to inquire why the "flaming" Pentecostals covet the three gifts that ended.

That is further evidence that the situation described in the passage has not been fulfilled yet. Paul is also leading up to his discussion of the resurrection at the coming of Christ, and 'then cometh the end' (telos) in chapter 15.

Fortunately, we do not have to guess, since earlier in the epistle, Paul frames the discussion of the topic for his epistle:

I Corinthians 1:7
7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

The problem arises if you have already agreed not to do so, and if you are faced with an agreement not to speak if the Spirit directs you to, would you sign it?

Allowing people to speak their carnal thoughts and forbidding them to speak words as they are directed by the Spirit on a Christian forum is a bad recipe. So was not allowing discussion on the Biblical responsibilities in marriage, but allowing the opposite opinion to be aired.

However, you would do well to inquire why you reject plain Scripture in 1 Corinthians 14:1.

The bible uses the phrase "batting the air"
Cessationists exercise tireless energy to "prove" God no longer has power through his disciples.

Unimaginable to take such a position (faithlessly devoted to shake the faith of those that believe the bible and God are true) ,and then pray for some miracle that they are in need of.

What a pit.

Great,great,great deception.

Ironically the bible ends in a prophetic declaration...
"The spirit and the bride say COME....COME lord Jesus"

Facepalm.

Of course, because the dispensational view puts the dividing lines BEFORE and AFTER the church age, not in the middle a hundred years after it began.

Any other erroneous hypotheses you want to advance? I so enjoy shooting them down.

The lines on a man-made dispensational chart should not be considered authoritative enough to contradict, override, or cancel the teaching of scripture.

There are continuationist dispensationalists, btw.

A teaching being 'dispensational' is not enough. It also has to be Biblical.

well, the 'false-prophets' in the 'scriptures are referred to as, 'the many', and they All CLAIM to be guided
by 'The Holy Spirit' -
it's almost comical, when someone says, that they have received 'a message from God',
when there is 'NO Super-Natural-Proof' -
we can definitely see why the 'Mods' of this site put a 'rule' down in order to 'minimize the 'nut-factor'!!!
:):)
Yeah, sometimes you got to snuff out the trolls.
