How might we enter God's rest today? Through faith and obedience in the work of Christ alone. Rest or no rest we all still remain in the 7th day.
In addition to giving us rest, Jesus also broke through for us the 7 day cycle, and because of faith in his work we might be able to one day enjoy the riches of the 8th day.
But the 8th day is still to the future. I believe the Day of the Lord that Peter talks about in 2 Peter 3:10-13; these events encompass the eighth day, which are to the future. My feeling is that the Day of the Lord will not be a 24 hour day either.
