For those who gave a partial definition of grace, Bill posted an accurate definition of grace in the post above where it says that grace involves God exerting a Holy influence on man in turning them to Christ, keeping them, etc

That is a really good definition of Grace, and one that fits my position like a glove. 🙂
I also said that grace is unmerited favour.
That is what grace is, that turns us towards Jesus.

Well let me delve into this with you and see if I can persuade you. ;)

@mailmandan
Are these verses about spiritual salvation?

James 1:15
Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

James 1:21-22
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls [=lives]. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

James 5:19-20
Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Yes. God exercising Holy influence to bring us to saving grace is part of that unmerited favor

Like I said, grace is a multifaceted word. 🙂

The definition you gave of faith is spot on

Faith comes into the equation AFTER God exerts a mighty and Holy influence on us.

So kudos
Grace is unmerited favor

God sending His son to die for us...unmerited favor

God exerting holy influence to bring us to Christ... unmerited favor

God giving us the gift of faith...unmerited favor

God regenerating us...unmerited favor

God justifying us...unmerited favor

God adopting us, God keeping us, God using us in His Kingdom work, God eventually completing the work in glorification

The fact that we’re still breathing

ALL UNMERITED FAVOR. 🙂

where do we find this interpretations from church history? i want to see what they said about many verses.

many times i read commentaries and think these people wow. remember church history is very lied to us because its mostly roman catholics and many disagree opinions and books and commentaries were burned. only catholicism approved books remained.

what did the sermon was about in your church today? my went through last chapter of acts
Church history would include any book, commentary, sermon, etc.

What I meant to say is if a persons interpretation is novel, it’s probably not right. I did not look in any commentaries for my interpretation of John 21, but I am confident someone or many someone’s interpreted the text the way I did. But I bet DC’s interpretation is a novelty

You know how I know? Because I came to my interpretation through exegesis. And there is always one correct interpretation of a text, though many applications

I am not saying my interpretation is the right one. That must be demonstrated by Exegesis. But any correct interpretation will only be found through sound exegesis

Exegesis is the art of drawing the intended meaning of any text using long established principles of interpretation

HAHAH You cannot even begin to surmise why Peter said what Peter said.....wow man....
Ummm...my interpretation is correct. Peter had said “even if all deny you, I will die with you”, and when the test came his weakness was revealed. So now he is ashamed and hesirmtant to make such a claim again. Remember Jesus said “ live-streams thou more than these. That is why Peter uses the weaker word phileo instead of agape. But the threefold denial was followed by the threefold question and the threefold commission, feed my sheep. And a prophecy that Peter would stand in the future, even unto death

This Jesus telling Peter that he meant what he said when He said earlier, “when you are converted, strengthen the brethren”, now stated as “feed my sheep”

It’s called historical-grammatical method of interpretation. Too much to say in one post, but you can get plenty of info by googling it

Rule 1 is the Bible is a spiritual book, and can only be rightly understood by the illumination of the Holy Spirit, also determine the writers original intent, also interpret according to context, also interpret literally unless the text is clearly not literal. Also, interpret according to the genre of literature, let scripture interpret scripture, etc

It is universal unless you want to use the allegorical method, but in that method, a person can make the Bible mean whatever they want, or at least think they can

At least you have an excuse. I have LOTS OF TYPOS, and my PC is a rather LARGE Laptop, with a full key board, about 12 inches from my face.

what makes bible interpretation difficult is many contradicting verses that need to harmonize.and its in same book so like in 1 john it says you cant sin and you do sin or your liar

so we need to make some explanation for that to make sense. the explanation is different for people but its clearly made sense to st.john in the Spirit when he wrote it.

dispensationalism gets rid of many these problems. but sometimes like 1john is just contradiction after another so you need to make a balance from those verses. i dont mean contradiction in bad way, its intentional by Holy Spirit but you know what i mean. things that look to be completely opposite used one verse after another.

It is actually Grace... most people cannot deal with it sadly ... a gift with no strings attached is exactly that "a gift"

There is no strings attached here too. You have MISUNDERSTOOD Lordship Salvation.
Genuine Salvation PRODUCES LOVE IN US, and we simply want to LOVE HIM BACK.
Has not anyone explained that to you?

NO GODLY LOVE Produced BY HIM in you, you have settled for something LESS THAN GENUINE SALVATION.

1 John 3:14 (HCSB)
14 We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers.
The one who does not love [.HIM or us.] remains in death.

That is what we have been saying to you all along.

MANY reject this truth....I personally believe everyone is written into the book of the living and only blotted out at the rejection of the son of GOD and upon death...…..

John said the condemnation of GOD hangs over the head of ALL that have not believed and is essentially waiting for them to take their last breath......

Nope.

It's not his grace that saves us.
It's faith as a result of his grace that saves us.

If his grace saved us then everyone would be saved.
JESUS told the woman...THY faith has saved the, go in peace.

It is not that difficult unless one has an ax to grind down to powder
