Tit 3:4 (KJV) But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,@KJV1611 , what is regeneration according to Scripture?
It was fun, met a couple of famous people and listened to concerts all day. Nobody big while I was there but the Foo Fighters performed last night (would’ve like to have seen that one) then after I left Hall and Oats performed and then Robert Plant after them (would like to see that one too) but I was so tired that I had to call it a day at seven.
Tit 3:4 (KJV) But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Tit 3:5 (KJV) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Tit 3:6 (KJV) Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
The appearance of the kindness and love of God came by:
All of these were shed on us abundantly though Jesus Christ and these things show us that the love of God has appeared.
- Saving us.
- The washing of regeneration.
- Renewing of the Holy Ghost.
That means that salvation and the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost are not the same and I would argue that they don’t come at the same time based on what I’ve seen take place in my own life.
I was saved immediately, but the regeneration in my life took quite a while as did the renewing of my mind by the Holy Ghost.
Washing is a “bread crumb” that God left us and that actually tells us what regeneration means. It sounds like the washing of regeneration could be that work the Holy Spirit does in making a believer a new person and working in the heart to make one more Christ-like. I am not completely sure on this but that is the impression I get especially with the word washing in front of the word regeneration.
Washing is a “bread crumb” that God left us and that actually tells us what regeneration means.
Eph 5:26 (KJV) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That “bread crumb” is what God used to make understand EXACTLY what regeneration means.![]()
According to Titus the regeneration started when Jesus came and brought salvation, regeneration, and the Holy Spirit. So what does that tell us about when Christ sat in the throne of his glory?I like that God is the one who does the sanctifying work. It is a comforting thought to think that I don't do the washing but he does. It is a work of the Lord Jesus. What he has purposed for his church, surely he will do it.
Numbers 23:19( KJV ): "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"
That sounds like a commentary. Did you know that the Scribes and Pharisees were the commentators of their time? Do you how far off from the truth those commentators were?
Well the commentary you posted is written by a modern day Pharisee that is just as blind as the Pharisees were in their day.
I can prove this to you if you will just believe the Bible for what it says but you want. You have been convinced by the Pharisees that what they say is right that you will totally ignore what the Bible says about regeneration and believe them over the words of the Bible.

Look at how the newer translations completely changed the meaning of verse 5.
Titus 3:5 New International Version (NIV)
5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
Titus 3:5 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
Titus 3:5 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
5 He saved us—
not by works of righteousness that we had done,
but according to His mercy,
through the washing of regeneration
and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
With just a few subtle word changes and word rearrangements the TRUE meaning of the verse is lost and says something completely different.
Is it any wonder why other people can’t see what I’m trying to show them?

Yup that new KJV really DID change the Tyndale version, NOT GOOD! I'll stick to the Tyndale instead of that modern KJV.Look at how the newer translations completely changed the meaning of verse 5.

Commentary on Titus 3:5
God saved us by the washing of regeneration. Conversion is really a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17), and here that new creation is presented under the figure of a bath. It is the same figure used by the Lord Jesus when He taught the disciples that there is only one bath of regeneration but many necessary cleansings from defilement (John 13:10). That bath of regeneration has nothing to do with baptism. It is not a bodily cleansing by water, but a moral cleansing by the word of God (John 15:3). Baptism is not even a symbol of this bath; it rather depicts burial with Christ into death (Rom. 6:4).
Our new birth is also spoken of as a renewing of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God brings about a marvelous transformation—not putting new clothes on the old man, but putting a new man in the clothes! The Holy Spirit is the Agent in regeneration and the word of God is the instrument.

Commentary on Titus 3:5
2. Sound Doctrine (3:5-11)
3:5 not by works. Salvation has never been by works (see Eph. 2:8, 9; cf. Rom. 3:19-28.) according to His mercy. Cf. Ephesians 2:4; 1 Timothy 1:13; 1 Peter 1:3; 2:10. washing of regeneration. See notes on Ezekiel 36:25-31; Ephesians 5:26, 27; James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23. Salvation brings divine cleansing from sin and the gift of a new, Spirit-generated, Spirit-empowered, and Spirit-protected life as God’s own children and heirs (v. 7). This is the new birth (cf. John 3:5; 1 John 2:29; 3:9; 4:7; 5:1). renewing of the Holy Spirit. Cf. Romans 8:2. He is the agent of the “working of regeneration.”

COMMENTARY on Titus 3:4-5
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done." Verse 3 gave us a picture of how we were before we came to know Christ. It is important to understand that becoming a Christian doesn't mean just turning over a new leaf -- you will find yourself writing on the new leaf the same things that you wrote on the old leaf. Making New Year's resolutions and promising to do better doesn't make you a Christian. Nor are you saved on the basis of works of righteousness, good deeds, which you have done.
"But according to his mercy he saved us." Because Christ died for us and paid the penalty for our sins, God is prepared to extend mercy to us; it is according to His mercy that He saved us. And He is rich in mercy, which means He has plenty of it. Whoever you are, He can save you today because Christ died for you. He paid the penalty and makes over to you His righteousness!
"By the washing of regeneration." "Washing" means laver -- it is the laver of regeneration. In the Old Testament the laver, which stood in the court of the tabernacle and later the temple, represented this.
This washing of regeneration is what the Lord was speaking about in the third chapter of John: "...Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" (John 3:5). The water represents the Word of God -- the Bible will wash you. It has a sanctifying power, a cleansing power. We are cleansed by the Word of God. The Holy Spirit uses the Word of God -- "born of water and of the Spirit." That is the way we are born again.
"And renewing of the Holy Ghost" -- He regenerates us.

Titus 3:5 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit
The appearance of the kindness and love of God came by:
NASB gospel for that verse - God manifest his love for us by saving us ONLY. That salvation came by 1)the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
- Saving us.
- What is the second thing that shows the appearance of the love of God?
- What is the third thing that shows the appearance of the love of God?
Titus 3:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
The appearance of the kindness and love of God came by:
KJV gospel for that verse - God manifest his love for us by saving us by 1) Saving us, 2) washing us with the word 3) renewing us with the Holy Ghost.
- Saving us.
- He washed us with the washing of regeneration. (not regular water, living water)
- He renewed us with the renewing of the Holy Ghost.
Two VERY DIFFERENT gospels. The HSCB says exactly the same thing as the NASB but the wording is slightly different.
The context of Titus 3 is the manifestation of God's love. Which gospel is true, the KJV OR the NAASB/HSCB?
Maybe you missed it, because I did post it earlier. That did not answer the question. She asked you what regeneration means
Maybe you missed it, because I did post it earlier.
Regeneration comes from the washing of the word of God.
Breakdown of paligenesia, regeneration.
https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G3824&t=KJV
paligenesia is a compound of two greek words, "palin" and "genesis"

https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?strongs=G1078&t=KJV
In your opinion what are those verses trying to convey, how the love of God is manifest or what regeneration means? The translators know that regeneration and new birth are the same thing, so the texts are not different at all
Pallingenessia (sic) is a compound word combining two Greek words palin and a form of the word genesis. Palin means again or anew, and genesis means birth. Notice the second part of the compound is same word as the first book of the Bible
So it is the new birth or new creation
Just like what it says in the passages I quoted yesterday
God saved us by washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit. Notice it is in the past tense and notice that regeneration and renewal are means that God uses to save us, as indicated by the preposition “by”
