@UnderGrace If it wasn't for Medicare and the Veterans administration. I myself wouldn't have any healthcare. At $1,396 per month total income from all sources, I doubt that I could afford any. I feel I've got a leg up on others whom I've known that don't have or get as much as I do. Heck If I had a 300% increase I'd still be below middle class in Oklahoma. So what's wrong with public healthcare other than many resent paying for it?
Have you been reading Ayn Rand? She was an 'A' moral atheist I hope you know.

I know all about Ann Rand and her ideas... that has nothing to do with my views at all.
.... I have mixed feelings about what we have in Canada, but the US seems like a mess too, my family lives in the states so I hear about it every Christmas.
I have not had a family doctor for ten years and I am on a wait list...thankfully so far I have been healthy... if something should happen, negotiating the system without a family doctor would be a nightmare I would probably be dead before I received treatment.
I am glad you have Medicare though.

Politics is certainly not everybody's cup of tea. Our most recent former prime minister was Christian, I believe, and so was Preston Manning. He headed the Reform party during the years when the conservatives just about totally sank. You know Franklin Graham came to our city a couple years back. I know not everyone agrees with him but I do on this point. He said Christians complain about politicians but they won't run for office themselves. He said Christians should run for office in their own towns and cities. Not everyone wants to run for president but we can run for offices that can influence our towns and make an impact where we live. I thought he made a good point.
Teachability is an aspect of humility, so~ good on youAh,ok, I'm going to have to practice that one. You can still teach an old dog new tricks.![]()

There is nothing for me to get.
Party politics is not the problem.
The problem is a populace that has been intentionally polarized and immersed in a left - right paradigm when the problems are far beyond issues of left and right.
You still don't actually get it. Perhaps because you, yourself, live in a country where the only choice is Liberalism. The Left is amoral. Every single thing that Progressives support is amoral. So a Christian cannot support them. There is no credible debate otherwise. The problem is NEVER a Left-Right dichotomy. The problem is always good versus evil. You vote for the good, or you vote for the evil. It is that simple. If confronted with an election such as 2016 when you are confronted with two evils of the same type, just evil in different areas, then, as a professing Christian, you cannot vote for either. You succinctly illustrate the problem with American politics. People claiming the mantle of Christianity think they can divorce their political views from their spiritual beliefs. Not so much. If your love for God doesn't affect who you support and vote for, you've got way bigger spiritual problems than who is running your country.
It's Ayn Rand, and the earlier poster was correct in their assessment of her. She was a selfish, amoral writer who viewed Capitalism as the cure for all ills. She is viewed as a champion by many Conservatives but the fact is, she was not a Conservative, she just replaced Liberalism with Objectivism. Both views revolve solely around Self.
I hate to tell you, but if you have been waiting for a family doctor for ten years, your Socialist healthcare system doesn't work. Perhaps Canada should try something different instead of Socialism. That is a system that has been proven not to work, every single place it's been tried . . .
Mr. Cobalt you do not need to school me on Any Rand, I have read her books and studied her political philosophy.
And please you do not need to school me on the healthcare system in Canada ... my son is pre-med and his girlfriend is in medical school and my nephew is a physician in Dallas. I have been schooled on all sides of the problems.
The system works until is does not work, and that is the way it is with socialized medicine eventually the costs supecede the ability of the tax payer to bear the weight of its burden... which then results in healthcare that is rationed and/or substandard.
I actually get a lot more than you know.
And again you are blending together the reality of the polarization of the American populace, with how a Christian should respond, with how to live and interact in a fallen world, with the ultimate truth of good versus evil.
When has the vote been able to be cast in support of absolute good versus absolute evil?
I would state never. Therefore do not vote.
Some Canadians have actually believed the highest office in the land has been held by Christians in the past... yet I am sure they have never followed the legislation enacted by those politicians who make a big show about showing up to church on Sunday.
But I agree, at the very least Christians need to take the blinders off.
Yes, very true I need dental and cataract surgery but that's not covered by either VA or Medicare for some odd reason. I had the sense to join the military when it was very un PC among my age group. However that dosn't lessen my concern for others. That's all I meant. When I was 18 YOA rather than going out, goofing off and getting loaded like most of my friends who acted like Graduation was an extended summer vacation.Veteran healthcare is not "public" healthcare because it is something you earned through your service to this country as a veteran. And as far as I am concerned, this country's treatment of veterans after they leave the Service is woefully lacking. Veterans should be placed above people who refuse to work and illegal aliens and they should enjoy much better care than what they receive through the VA. You may get something through the VA, but I assure you, it isn't as much as they owe you.
Ayn Rand. The spelling is simple.
If you are waiting for a doctor for 10 years, here is a clue for you: Your system already doesn't work.
You're welcome.
