I don't know of a place in the bible where it calls for a man to only have one wife EXCEPT if is he's going to be a bishop.

for example, you do not know of a place etc

creation and God calling what He made good would be a starting point

why would you think that is making fun of anyone?

maybe you are making fun by saying it appears legal to you that men can have mulitple wives

If you don't get off on it, then why do you do that to people who are just expressing their opinions?

What's your reasoning behind attacking me?
where did I attack you?

no one attacked you

I pointed out your failure to understand creation and the fact Bishops were an example and therefore had to have but one wife and I am not the only one to have done so

are you not KJ only? how is that an attack?

here is Nehemiahs response to you.

While God did not call polygamy a sin in the OT, the original principle of one husband and one wife was established in Eden, confirmed by Christ, and also by the apostles. The spiritual leaders of the churches (the elders) were to show by example that they were husbands with only one wife.

So it was not really OK for David, but God allowed it and David paid a price for it. Solomon paid and even greater price.
very similar to what I said

I think you may perceive someone questionning you as an attack

that is not my problem

For the record I don't support or endorse polygamy.

At least now you're getting somewhere.... you're actually trying to debate rather than belittle and poke fun... sort lol. I guess this post is more of a mixture of hate and debate.

Anyway, what verse in the bible excludes an average ordinary man (not a bishop) from having more than one wife?

Maybe one day I can be the Christian you are.

further, this is your snarky response to me

now that is quite sarcastic so maybe reign in the nastiness yourself and stop saying others are doing it

my response to you was not serious which is why I posted the smiley

but you seem intent in trying to say something that is not what I intended

why is that?

never mind. rhetorical question. it is usually the way you roll

I didn't say you did

well you know, many people consider the BDF a debate forum

like you don't?

your responses in all and any KJV only threads illustrate you are fine with giving it but I did not attack you nor did I do anything else to you personally

this is a forum and no one has to prove anything to anyone

but I really have little respect when someone accuses another of attacking them simply because they posted something that was not agreed with

you should drop the ad hominum responses

don't do that on my account

just quit saying people are attacking you when they have not done so at all

really

Anyway, what verse in the bible excludes an average ordinary man (not a bishop) from having more than one wife?
haha

the church was new and many were pagans who had become Christians

again, Bishops and others were to set examples

women are not chattel. God allows many things but they are not what He created and very far from what is considered holy

holy meaning to be set apart

I am really not attacking or arguing.

Weddings are oath/ vow taking ceremonies.

moving right along

yes they are serious...but not really seeing your oath comparison?

I think weddings are more of a covenant?

My conviction would be, yes, and those who aren't legally married are living in sin (with the exception of a young engaged couple who might be shipwrecked on a desert island or something weird like that).

Notice this verse:

Matt 5: 31“It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Jesus is quoting from the Law regarding this subject (Deut 24:1). So, in God's economy for ancient Israel, he established legal recognition for divorce. Do you really think there wasn't a process for legal recognition of marriage?

Additionally, would a Christian, who should be intent on presenting a good witness to the world, avoid marriage?

Societal expectations have been eroded, but I think there is still some stigma upon a child if his parents are not married.

I only bring up this topic because I've heard a few older professing Christians express this idea that marriage isn't required to cohabitate and enjoy the sexual benefits of marriage. Usually they are following theologies that are very independent and separated from the normal evangelical experience. In fact, some of them are legalistic and claim that the Mosaic Law is still in effect. This is really bizarre because for all their professed attentiveness to minor aspects of the Mosaic Covenant, they are disrespectful toward the institution of marriage.
As Christians Romans 13 tells us to follow what is legal.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24

Genesis 4:19..Lamech took 2 wives. this actually illustrates the progression of sin and not open or polygamous marriages

Genesis 2:24 does not include more than one woman

No - a legal ceremony is not required.

( for God to consider you to be married )

An exchange of vows before God is sufficient.

Having witnesses can be helpful.

The 'legal' option is something altogether different. It is a requirement of the state for recognition by the state.

Oaths/vows/covenants are the devils ammo to work on your marriage because breaking your vows is where sin lies. No man can promise the future because no man controls the future. This is what the Lord meant. Yes and No answers are never enough in a wedding or any oath taking ceremony and Jesus says anything above that is from the devil.

I prayed and asked God to marry Tourist and I on October 4th 2014 our legal wedding was November 27th 2014. I felt married on October 4th and have remained faithful since that day.
