Luk 17:34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
Luk 17:35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Luk 17:36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Luk 17:37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.

I wish I could remember who pointed this out to me so I could give them credit for it, but someone on CC showed me this a year or two ago and I got busy and kind of forgot about it. That person showed me that the ones that were taken, were taken to the dead body in verse 37.

I believe the dead body was the body of Christ and the eagles are believers. One reason I believe this is because we mount up with eagles wings and we feed on the body of Christ... there are other reasons to, but now I have satisfied the requirements of p_rehbein, I've given my thoughts lol.

What are your thought?
What is the dead body and what do the eagles represent?

Interesting thread KJV1611, the phrase was used in Matthew also but about eagles gathered around a carcase

"For wheresoever the carcase is,
there will the eagles be gathered together."
(Matthew 24:28, KJV)

I’ve read the eagle could be a statement about the Romans the ensign of the Roman Empire was a eagle.

It's been the subject of many commentaries across time and seems most likely Jesus is quoting Job 39:30.

Thanks for your reply JamOn. I know a lot of people think this is a rapture verse and I have always thought that too. I don't think that anymore based on Luke 13:37 - "Where Lord?". Now we now WHERE they were taken, they were taken to the place where the dead body was or is. As I said earlier, I think it's talking about the dead body of Christ.... but that's all I know, I don't know what that means.

I don't think it has anything to do with the Roman empire, why would anyone be taken to the Roman army? Especially believers, which I think is what the ones taken are.

I think you are right.

Job 39:30 Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.

Tie that to eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Christ.

I think Job 39:30 is speaking of literal eagles, but I think it is foreshadowing also. Good add to the thread, thanks!

If you see vultures you know there's a dead body around. You don't have to physically see it but the knowledge of times is what Jesus was talking about here. End times has some indicators that will let people know it is end times, it had nothing to do with rapture. You don't have to see people flying but thou shall know it is end times but only if you are keen.

There's been a lot of debate over this (pro/con) over the years because the wheat are gathered into the barn while those who worship the image/mark ect. are devoured by the fowl (Revelation 19:21) https://biblehub.com/interlinear/revelation/19-21.htm and which is why the debate is if it best to be taken or left behind.

My thoughts are; Jesus was talking of signs of end of age so the dead body represented the end of age that people need to understand as opposed to seeing physically.

But aren't you starting with the assumption that the end of the age is the end of time rather than letting the verse reveal what the end of age means?

I would offer that parable is teaching God is not served by human hands as a will. .

The dead bodies are natural unconverted mankind . Where the eagles are is in a place of unbelief . Eagles represent unclean food to represent unbelief ( no gospel). That I believe shows us God is not served human hands (will) in respect to the corrupted mankind .

Those who do not hear the gospel do not rise.

He uses Balaam' Ass in that way to stop the madness of that false prophet .which according the cerinimoinal law . . . a Ass when born if not redeemed by a lamb break its neck as in falling backward.

Not really but IMO, Jesus was simply saying, signs are to be understood and not to be seen.

From my studies, I've come to believe the dead body is the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37.

They are the whole house of Israel that is prophesied to resurrect at the word of the "Son of Man" when Christ returns (i.e. the same as "the dead in Christ" that Paul speaks about rising).

Does this mean it's also Christ's body? Yes I think so. I think you could say that.

Matthew 24 says "wherever the dead body is there the eagles will be gathered". I take this to mean wherever the slain Israelites are in the world. Recall that Israel was scattered to the four corners of the world and is prophesied to be regathered when The Messiah comes back.

I think all of this ties together.

How do you figure this is a parable? Not being rude but what you said is something you made up. Nowhere does the bible equate dead bodies with unconverted mankind. Nowhere does the bible equate an eagle as a place of unbelief. I mean come on, Jesus is foreshadowed as an eagle in the Old Testament, God bears us up on eagles wings.

Good catch, I think it does tie into Ezekiel 37 but not in the way that you're saying exactly. I believe the dry bones are the dry bones that came out of the grave when Christ rose from the dead.

Luk 17:35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Luk 17:37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.
We should also include the passage from Matthew

THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST AND THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON
For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together... (24:27,28; SEE REV 19)

Just like everyone sees lighting when it occurs, the whole unbelieving world will see the literal Second Coming of Christ and mourn (Rev 1:7). His first order of business will be the battle of Armageddon, where there will be millions of carcases lying around and God will summon all the birds of prey (including eagles) to come and feast (see Rev 19).

THE RAPTURE: UNANNOUNCED AND UNEXPECTED (Matthew 24)
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

Here we have a different scenario. The saints will be taken up to Heaven by Christ at the Rapture (1 Thess 4) and the unsaved will be left behind. This is compared to Noah, whose family was taken into the Ark (a type of Christ) while those left behind were utterly wiped out in the Flood.

Luke DID NOT write everything chronologically, and even Matthew puts the Second Coming ahead of the Rapture (which is impossible since all the saints accompany Christ at His coming). Therefore we need to take all Scriptures into account and see the sequence of events: (1) the Rapture, (2) the Tribulation, (3) the Great Tribulation, (4) the Second Coming.
