John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greaterworks than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Read the thread.....no one denies this....just that works are the result OF not FOR salvation....works do not help save, keep saved, top off salvation, finish salvation.......

24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and
will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."
John 5

To hear someones words means to understand what they mean and put them into practice.
A person can say, do not go on that beach it is a mine field.
They then go on the beach and get blown up.

You would say they heard the words but did not believe them or intended to die.
Another way of saying this is they did not hear the words.

When Jesus says abide in me, if you do not abide in me and my words in you, you
are like a dead branch that is gathered up and burnt.

Now I know verses can support almost anything if you do not connect them with
the true content and meaning of the speaker, but that is the hearers choice and it is
my job to point this out. After decades of doing this and seeing the numerous and growing
number of links, it is a wonder how self blinded some people are. Ironically the links
are written in innumerable ways, so there is not just one reference and emphasis there
are thousands that weave into a wonderful eternal whole. Praise the Lord, Amen.
Hi FHS,

Would you make a straightforward sense on the verse? You made numerous side comments, but it seems you have not made a counter point. Now if you really want something to share in the particular verse, then say so.

Thanks,

Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

What did you have to overcome to keep your name from being blotted out of The book of Life?

Summaries are just that, they must be expanded and explained to find their true meaning.
And the summary is always given to point at the reward, salvation.
I believe salvation is not a reward. It's always been a free gift.

Romans 11:6-8 King James Version (KJV)
6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Romans 5 King James Version (KJV)

15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Romans 4:3-5 King James Version (KJV)
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

We both already answered......what we overcame does not matter.....how we overcame does....IT is called FAITH

Overcoming is the topic, not works for salvation. Believers overcome by the blood of the Lamb, not by works. Overcomers (true believers) will NOT be blotted out of the Book. No hell here for the believer

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

What did you overcome to keep your name from being blotted out by Jesus from The book of Life?

Hi...
Those who are overcomers are those who believe in the LORD Jesus Christ , those who have accepted Him as LORD and Master of their lives...
There are many who will claim they know our LORD , but have no relationship with Him , the ones who CLAIM they know Him , you the ones who say " Lord Lord " twice they sincerely call on His name , only to hear the words of our LORD say " Go away , I never knew you "

Being a follower of our LORD is not an easy walk , but thank God it is He who is the starter and finisher of our faith , we overcome the trials and tribulations in our life for our Lords good name sake because we love Him , regardless of what the world ( enemy ) throws at us , we shall overcome...xox...

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
