Can someone please explain to me what it means to become a member of the church we attend...
My church offers membership , but what are some of your thoughts , would love some feedback...
I attend my church most Sundays to worship God and be in fellowship with my brothers & sisters as we worship together , but why become a member , what does it mean ...
Thank you...xox...

You would probably be best directing the question to your church leadership since what official membership entails (benefits and responsibilities) can vary from one organization to the next.

*Some denominations require members to sign off on (be in agreement with) all official doctrinal stances of the denomination.
*Most churches require that someone be a member to vote in governing elections which can range from annual budget approval to election of governing leadership.
*Many churches give ministerial priority to "members" over "attendees".

Hi Rosemary, at my church they have a couple of membership classes where it
is explained. Maybe ask if your church has something similar or ask what it’s about.

All churches are different. In mine there are certain ministries you are not allowed to do
unless you are a church member like being on the worship team, teaching, leading,
children’s work. As a member you have to agree to come under the church leadership
including accountability and church discipline if necessary, it’s rarely needed though.
They also like to ensure a person is actual a born again Christian and understand what
that is. It’s very much a biblical Acts church.

In another church I went to it was much more casual, it meant you could attend the
annual general meetings and take part in votes.

So it means different things in different churches.

It's good to be a member of a local church, like your extended family=). When we had to live elsewhere, it was always a church we looked for first, where we also inquired of possible schools for the children to go.

I hope you find your church, rosemary.

In my church (which is part of the Assemblies Of God) to be a church member, it makes you eligible to have any position the church requires and do any service. For example in order to be part of the worship team, be a leader in any department (Women's, Men, Children, Youth, Elderly, Missions, ect...) work in any of the offices, be an usher, be a deacon ect.. If you don't want to be a member you could, you don't have too and just attend. But it's recommended to at least become a member because then they won't give you any special part like reading scripture, guest preacher ect.... I work in tha A/V room where I put song lyrics on the screen and upload the preaching from Power Point the Pastor always gives me. You need to be a member. However I don't know how it is in another denomination. in AG to become a member, you need to be baptized. If you come from another church, if you're baptized then you get interviewed by the Pastor and church officials. If you grew up in the church and want to become a member you are obligated to get baptized, when you do, you are a member. Like I said I don't know how it is for other churches but what church member ship is used for I think may be the same in other denominations.
