This was Jesus though, not us. Only he can confront satan. If you try to do it on your own you wont have the power. What Jesus taught is that we can just say to them leave and they will leave cos of his delegated power.

Unless you are telling me you literally kill people all the time with your sword and have battled satan and false prophets amd killed them? That would be news to me as I dont know anyone whos done that.

ok so I am probably sucking all the air out of the room at this point, but really?

should we pass over Ephesians 6 then? very few people will every deal with the devil himself directly

The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people

you misunderstand what that link was saying. it sure was not saying what you seem to think it said. the OT also illustrates the wrath of God and the fact he deals with it by destroying utterly with no apologies

let the objections begin :geek:

Abide in the vine.
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal.

Just a reminder. I dont think the Bible ever mentions we ought to be physically armed. But spiitually armed with the sword of the spirit, which is the Word. We use this sword is a dividing sword though, cutting through to reveal the truth, its not used to kill people or to stab. Quite a different kind of weapon to guns.

Guns and bullet are basically an updated weapon of the old sling shot. Do we throw stones at others? Only if we are not without sin. I would be careful what words to use, even if its just idioms.

your killing it now

really gonna leave after this

let's take this to its rightful conclusion

this is speaking to the fact that the weapons being spoken of are spiritual and not related to physical warfare (even though there are spirits behind the warfare)

we are not fighting against flesh and blood when using these spiritual weapons...all explained in my previous post about Ephesians 6

I'll stop for now. but it's difficult :cautious:

Agree... a "just war" against tyranny/self defense is the reason for the right to bear arms.
Is that resistance though. I dont think its a 'right' just a precaution. Having the armour of God doesnt mean you go on the offensive.

Jesus told his disciples to carry an actual sword. Instead of being spiritually armed with the sword of the spirit David used a sling to kill Goliath. Maybe David was without sin when he let the stone fly or just maybe he didn't carry for bullies. His aim was true that's for sure. Jesus didn't tell the soldiers to lay down their arms but rather to be content with their pay.

He also said those who live by the sword will also die by the sword.

And then he told them to put them away. When Peter cut of someones ear, Jesus healed him.
David is OT.

But, this is not even talking about this, this is asking what resistance is. Do you know what it really means or do you think it means go and destroy someone.

I can tell you.....I pack everywhere I go and three things are sure with me.....

a. I will always defend the defenseless and lethally if need be.

b. I will always help a police officer or state trooper if they are in dire straights

c. I will never give up my weapons, nor will anyone that I know.....

Resist the devil and he will flee from you...kinda implies you arent actually killing the devil if he has to flee...

Let's not confuse the spiritual armour of God with being physically attacked, and having a gun is not going on the offensive, it is for self-defense.

Like what, you seem to be the expert, do tell.
There is plenty of information available on the Counter Reformation at your public library or the internet, I am not sure what you want me to tell you?

I have no desire to hurt anyone but if someone tried to hurt my wife, daughter or grandchild I would either kill them or die trying. That's just the way that it is. What I'm not going to do is to simply remain passive while the bad guys try to do harm. I will protect my family at all costs.

Luke 22:36
And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.

Of course, buying sword would be problematic if they lived in a sword control village.

Just give the basics. Surely you can do that.

Has someone tried to hurt your wife. But that isnt resistance. Thats revenge.

Revenge is what would happen if I wasn't home at the time, what I described is protecting those that you love. Slaying the bad guys with the sword of the spirit isn't going to cut it.

But people like tourist arent self defending. They are defending their wife and family who it seems cant seem to defend themselves. I think people underestimate wife and family and think a man has to do it. Wouldnt his wife hit back at someone trying to hurt her? Wouldnt she know self defense?

How exactly do you protect them though.
