Why is one being baptized?

Try this:

"Repent and jump for joy for the forgiveness of sin,..."

Is one jumping for joy to have their sins forgiven, or because their sins were forgiven?

Know who taught that water baptism did not save? A well known Southern Baptist Preacher, Teacher and Author:
Adrian Rogers.

"For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins...."

Did Jesus shed His blood to have their sins forgiven, or because their sins WERE forgiven?

BTW, my Bible translates Acts 2:38 as: “Peter answered them, All of you must turn to God and change the way you think and act, and each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins will be forgiven. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift.” God's Word 1995

Many other Bibles translate it the same way.

Know what Bibles use your word "WERE", none....Hmm

The confusion element is man made...not scriptural. Any decent Bible student knows that.

The Bible demands baptism for sin cleansing....forget the denominations creed....follow scripture.

Those who promote false doctrines will give you many Scriptures which have been misunderstood or misapplied and claim that their teachings have biblical support. But since water cannot wash away sins, these vain beliefs should simply be ignored.

So are you saying it's baptism that actually saves?
Our sins are not forgiven until we are baptised?

Problem is for some (like me) when a goat gets your goat then it's difficult to ignore.

You might need to ask someone who teaches at a baptist Bible college or go and do some research there. I dont know what changed in 1960 sorry.
Most baptist churches are actually autonomous so even if there was an association it wouldnt reflect all baptist practices. I would be very wary if someone has said baptism is not necessary and claim it was coming from the baptist denom!

Billy Graham did join the baptists BUT he was originally presbyterian who are traditionally ambivalent about the practice of baptism. So it might come from that as he was a huge influence on christianity back then.

Anyone who can't understand those clear scriptures needs a learning lesson.

You may not have been of age. A bunch of things happened in the 1960's.
Moral decay began, freedom from controls, me myself and I was the center of young lives, G-d and Bible was thrown out of schools and other secular settings. Read history.

There seems to be some independent baptist that follows scripture but, research to date tells us that mainstream baptist, et al, tossed baptism. Just unilaterally re-interpreted the Bible along with other new, new age religion interpretations.

Well said as a new age religion type....ignore G-d's word by..." tickling my ears and tell me what I want to hear". End time deceptions as the Bible predicts.

If I need your advice I will ask for it.

Does this apply to those who can not be baptized because of physical or medical conditions?
Will God send a person to hell because they are confined to a bed and can not be baptized?

He will find out that his watery false gospel has no power....albeit too late to do any good though
