You can read the scriptures ...I am sure.
So, you're not willing to support your beliefs with specific scriptures? Your stance is invalid, then, and you are lazy.

Try this:Water baptism has nothing to do with salvation. Any who believe it does are the ones changing Gods Word. Water baptism is about obedience to Christ. He said for us to be water baptized. For many, it is the 1st act of obedience. Water baptism serves a specific purpose:
To serve as a witness to both the world and the Church that a person has become a believer in and follower of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. The "one Baptism" spoke of in Scripture is the baptism of the Holy Spirit thru the applying of the the precious blood of Christ that cleanses us of our sins, and allows us to become worthy to be called sons of God, and worthy to become heirs of the Promise.
"Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sin...."
Why is one being baptized?
To have their sins forgiven, or because their sins WERE forgiven upon repenting and accepting Christ as Lord and Savior? Pretty simple, but so very many get it wrong........... Hmm
Try this:
"Repent and jump for joy for the forgiveness of sin,..."
Is one jumping for joy to have their sins forgiven, or because their sins were forgiven?
Know who taught that water baptism did not save? A well known Southern Baptist Preacher, Teacher and Author:
Adrian Rogers.
(just saying)
See post #233 - https://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/eis-or-dia-or-hoti.151495/page-12Try this:
"For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins...."
Did Jesus shed His blood to have their sins forgiven, or because their sins WERE forgiven?
BTW, my Bible translates Acts 2:38 as: “Peter answered them, All of you must turn to God and change the way you think and act, and each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins will be forgiven. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift.” God's Word 1995
Many other Bibles translate it the same way.
Know what Bibles use your word "WERE", none....Hmm
The great commission tells us to baptise people in the name of father, son and holy ghost. It is a symbolic act of having your sins washed away. Adding confusion to it there is arguments about the mode of baptism, dunking, pouring, and sprinkling. In no text in the Bible does it say it is a requirement for salvation. The only possibility is abject refusal to be baptized. That calls into the concept that the person is not really a Christian. There are denominations that believe baptism is required for salvation.

Those who promote false doctrines will give you many Scriptures which have been misunderstood or misapplied and claim that their teachings have biblical support. But since water cannot wash away sins, these vain beliefs should simply be ignored. So, you're not willing to support your beliefs with specific scriptures? So are you saying it's baptism that actually saves? The confusion element is man made...not scriptural. Any decent Bible student knows that.
The Bible demands baptism for sin cleansing....forget the denominations creed....follow scripture.

Peas in a pod as they say.Don't wait ...you are doing it now.
You might need to ask someone who teaches at a baptist Bible college or go and do some research there. I dont know what changed in 1960 sorry. As a child I attended a ......southern baptist member church ......and baptism was a routine part of the service. I quit that church when I went into the army in 1958.
I have recently been made aware that the Baptist denomination has re-interpreted the Bible to say that baptism is not necessary for salvation, even though scripture says ...very clearly...it is required. In light of research this seems to have occurred since 1960....(?).
Does anyone know of baptist association teachings, publications, writings, etc prior to 1960 which reflected that position.
I can find none.

Preston,
You simply do not understand the Gospel, and yet your are trying to mislead people into a false belief about salvation. Time to call it quits.

Most baptist churches are actually autonomous so even if there was an association it wouldnt reflect all baptist practices. I would be very wary if someone has said baptism is not necessary and claim it was coming from the baptist denom!
Billy Graham did join the baptists BUT he was originally presbyterian who are traditionally ambivalent about the practice of baptism. So it might come from that as he was a huge influence on christianity back then.

Does this apply to those who can not be baptized because of physical or medical conditions?
Will God send a person to hell because they are confined to a bed and can not be baptized?
