So what's the fastest car you've ever been in (even if it didn't go fast)
And, what's the fastest you have ever driven?

The fastest car I was in was a Dodge Viper. I didn't even start it.

The fastest I've driven was about 90mph.

I've been in a Mazerati, but I only had the valet key, so I couldn't go fast. I've been over 140 mph before.

Why are civilian cars designed with speed capable of exceeding the speed limit at an increased unnecessary amounts of mile per hour

It was obviously the car's fault then.
And when I opened the glove compartment to get the registration papers, all my friends speeding tickets fell out!! So yes, definately the cars fault!! 😂😆

Actually, most civilian cars cannot go as fast the speedometer actually goes up to. Ie., if the speedometer goes to 120, the car may actually be governed at around 85.

But it looks impressive to think that maybe it could go 120 or 130, I guess.

Fastest car I was in was back in the 1980's in my uncle's 67 corvette convertible with the 427 engine. He took me for a ride in it and we were on this empty back road when he said "watch this" and punched it. We went from 50 to over 100 in about 2 seconds. That's what it felt like.

It looked just like this one. Also black.

Fastest car I've been in was a Chevy Lumina. It could go over 90, and occasionally did.

What I liked mosted about it though, was how it took turns. I enjoyed that car on back roads. I didn't drive real fast, I was just... uh... economical with brakes around the curves. I was being thrifty, not reckless.

Because it makes people want to buy the cars, even if they are not permitted to drive them that fast. A Geo Metro and a Dodge Viper are both limited to 30mph driving through the downtown area, but the Viper driver can have a bigger ego.

The fastest I have driven was about 100 mph, in a GMC Suburban. One day I hope to try one of those 'rent a racer' facilities near Vegas.

You'd think with a Ferrari for an avatar, I'd have driven something a little more exotic. Nope. I have pictures of me next to a Ferrari, and next to a Lambo, but close doesn't count.

My husband wants to contribute to this thread:

I once drove a ‘97 BMW M3 135 mph. The fastest car I’ve ever been in was a 2012 Cadillac CTS-V that had 575 rwhp and an estimated 700 hp to the crank.

130 in 11 seconds in 1/4 mile used to be my goal. Quicker faster cars were required to have a roll cage. Nobody would race for money if they realized I had a real drag racer. LOL.

Fastest car i ever drove, but didn't go more than 30mph in it, was a relative's 2010 porsche 911. It was probably the prettiest car I ever drove too. I only drove it around a housing development.
