For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15 Praise the Lord!

Yet it feels good being a high priest not having to be bothered by communicating with sinners, just be riding the high horse of self righteousness.

I think that’s my next step. Becoming an even bigger hypocrite than I am today. Granted that it is possible to become worse than I am now.

With God anything is possible but possibly not probable. :)

great response. I did know refusing to attend a gay wedding or reception was self-righteous? But it's good you know that you are being hypocritical so you can ask the Lord to help you with it.

A bit ironic actually .... on the abstract level not talking on personal level...it does seem to me like........... look at me how righteous and loving I am because I am the one who hangs out with sinners like Jesus.

One can look at from different angles ....the truth is Jesus did not hang out with sinners and when He was with them He was not there to let His feelings be known........ but to reveal truth.

BY SPEAKING UP.. Not sitting there like a wet mouse being watched by a curious cat.. You CANNOT reveal truth if you DON'T TALK..

Absolutely...we are in agreement on this.

But if they already know your stand what would be the point, so I guess it depends on the bigger picture.

Is this the last time a person would see them....probably not, so why make a point of going to the wedding when there will be other opportunities?

Is it really fair to go to a persons private "reception" and telling them to repent...it is basically setting up the witness for failure, I think we are called to be more mindful of our actions than that.

Just the way I see it...if I am going to speak about Jesus I want to make sure I am being respectful and it is during a time when a person is willing to engage in the dialogue. .... if you think that is possible I guess that is an optimistic view :) I myself do not see it from past experiences.

Ricky's nephew knows what his stand is on gay marriage. BUT, what's wrong with making sure that the nephew's partner also knows what Ricky's stand is? Or making sure that EVERY ONE at that event knows what his stand is? If it were me there, I'd be asking the pastor how he could possibly, in good Christian standing, perform a sinful ceremony and still live with himself. I'd ask the congregation WHY they are taking place in such an abomination, by sitting there and witnessing this evilty. Lastly, I'd ask the nephew and his partner if they're ready to face the wrath of God, lest they repent and call off this farce forever.

There is a reason why the pastor calls for objections at a wedding, Grace. It's so that whomever knows a legit, just reason why the two people shouldn't be married can stand up and have their reasons heard. In the case of gay marriage, I'd say that it being unnatural, gross and not right is reason enough to stand up and open one's mouth.

Yes, but I am a hypocrite. I’m not denying it.

"evility" ?? see you learn something new every day  not in my Oxford Crossword Dictionary

but back to the real business of this thread ...
so far all of our pro-attendees have not answered the real question:
Is there such a thing as a same-sex wedding ???

Why do some Christians profane God given marriage, Genesis 1:28, by referring to a same-sex union as a marriage and
as a wedding?
It is not a wedding. It is not marriage.

from Websters 1828 edition - pre-political correctness destruction of language

MAR'RIAGE, n. [L.mas, maris.] The act of uniting a man and woman for life; wedlock; the legal union of a man and woman for life.
Marriage is a contract both civil and religious, by which the parties engage to live together in mutual affection and fidelity, till death shall separate them.
Marriage was instituted by God himself for the purpose of preventing the promiscuous intercourse of the sexes, for promoting domestic felicity, and for securing the maintenance and education of children.

Marriage - Genesis 1:28 - family and kinship - children - the Creation
Even if one gave a moment's credence to Darwin and evolution homosexuality is a deadend street and serves no purpose to biology.

who is the pastor of the wedding?

the pastor can quote scripture against homosexuality

and be like

Ricky's nephew, do you, as a christian, be willing to repent of all sin that God will convict you of, etc.\

the pastor is in the perfect position to preach

or, simpler yet, cancel the wedding

Evilty IS a word.. lol

And there's no such thing as same-sex marriage. It's a sham and a farce. A REAL marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN ONLY.. Anything else is just counterfeit and unnatural.

Neither words (wedding and/or marriage) are used in that Biblical passage

3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?”
4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female,
5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?
6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

That is not the passage you originally cited, which was Genesis 1:28.

But Jesus is directly referring to Genesis 1:28 and to Genesis 2:
for heterosexual marriage is God given it is not a social construction but a sacrament even in non-Christian religions.
So you now say. Neither of the words "marriage" or "wedding" are mentioned. People were considered betrothed by promise, and married when they consummated the union. Even a rapist was bound under the law to officially "marry" his victim. Rapists are an abomination to God. Do you know that liars are an abomination to God? A false witness that speaketh lies... in fact, there is quite a long list of abominations, which covers pretty much every sin, and we are all sinners, including you. Should I be shocked and dismayed to be witness to the abominations -including Scripture twisting- I have seen self-professed Christians commit in this very thread? Or should I just file it all under, "Business as Usual"? There is nothing new under the sun, after all.
