No, your point is that good works are not "required", which in subtle ways you are rejecting. But, perhaps I might be mistaken about you, so, let us clarify your true position and that we are both in agreement to one thing, "good works are required to inherit the kingdom of God", what say you, yay or nay? A simple yes or no answer will suffice, then we can move on to more intelligent conversation.
As to your question...what is required to inherit the Kingdom of God is the New Birth. John 3:3. Now, then, what does the Bible say about those who are born again?

a. Those who are born again do righteousness. 1 John 2:29. The verb "poiew" (translated commit) is probably an ititerative verb, denoting righteousness as a way of life. )

b. Those who are born again do not commit sin. 1 John 3:9 and 1 John 5:18 (note- this does not mean that the Christian is absolutely sinless, see 1 John 1:8-2:2. The verb "poiew" (translated commit) is probably an ititerative verb, denoting sin as a way of life. )

c. Everyone who loves is born of God. 1 John 4:7 So love is a mark of a genuine Christian. And love is not feelings, it is actions. And since I interpret poiew as ititerative in point b, I will do the same here with agapeo, love as a way of life.

d. Everyone who is born of God overcomes the world. 1 John 5:4

All of these things are DESCRIPTIVE of an already born again person, not prescriptions as to how to be born again.

By the way, I interpret the verb Poiew in 1 John 2:29 the same way I interpret poiew in 1 John 3:9. Not talking about once in a while doing something nice or tipping your hat to God, but rather a lifestyle of righteousness, an ititerative verb. Those who are born of God practice righteosness, not sin, both instances of poiew are ititerative verbs, which is why the best renderings is "practice righteousness or practice sin.

You people are in for a terrifying surprise in the day of judgment.

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the aeonial fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a foreigner and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Master, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to aeonial punishment, but the righteous to aeonial life.”
Matthew 25:41-46
The passage above is not prescriptive of what needs to be done in order to be born of God, it has to do with the fact that one who is born of God will love and not hate his brother or sister, and those that do not love, but rather hate their brethren in the way described above are not truly born of God.

1 John 3:14- We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

1 john 4:8-He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:20- If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

Works cannot save but good works should come naturally and pleasantly to the truly saved. Is that a polaroid camera on your head? #1 is my address.
As I believe Scripture states,

Eph 2 10, We were created (anew) for good wrks.

In our new nature, Works are the norm and we are fed off of those works. Sin is like poison, and it damages us, Not like when we were of the world when the opposite was truth, Its why a child of God can not continue to live as he always did, because he could not handle it. Sin does not bring the same joy or confort. It brings pain and suffering (then add to that chastening from God)

Its why I laugh at those who say we MUST work to be saved, its impossible for a true believer not to work. There is no must about it. It is their new nature.

Sorry, but I've read your posts, you are pretty out there as far as what is, and what will be according to the Scriptures.

Here's a small list of some of the men that you are in disagreement with.......

John Calvin
Martin Luther
Thomas Cranmer
Roger Williams
Cotton Mather
John Wesley
William Tyndale
John Wycliffe
John Bunyan
Sir Isaac Newton
Johnathan Edwards
Charles Spurgeon
J.C. Ryle
Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones
And a long list of others.

You keep listening to your cassette tapes, and I'll keep listening to the truth.

2 Thessalonians 2:5-12
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

I have told you the truth, it is symbolism for Countries. But know you are bashing some born again Christians. Yes they are getting a few saved, and granted they are only a few. But that makes them the part of the 7 Churches in Revelation. Satan is the Antichrist, the Beast is the Political Dictator he controls, and the False Prophet, very remotely could be a Pope, BUT I DOUBT IT. I think it is a religious figurehead, who will DIRECT worship to the BEAST and SATAN. And the biggest SUSPECT is NEW AGE, and they are still going strong in EUROPE.

Revelation 12:9 (NIV)
9 The great dragon was hurled down--that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

You might want to finish reading Revelation at least three more times, before you start pinning the label Antichrist on some PERSON.

If I was to guess, the Catholic Church could be church in Thyatira or Pergamum depending on how it spread. But either way, it is one of the Churhes that is RECOGNIZED by CHRIST HIMSELF. And like I already said: CHRIST walks around their Lamp-stand, even thou
HE HAS SOMEWHAT AGAINST THEM.

1 John 2:18
As the original architect of the anti-God agenda, the Devil has always been the prime example of the antichrist spirit and the energizer of the innumerable antichrists who have followed his lead.

Who's bashing born again Christians?

You are over exaggerating yet again Orv!

Poor assessment of Roman Catholicism, the Scriptures, and a typical response from someone indoctrinated by men and void of truth.

My response in post #101,101 was in reference to the troll(s).

For your information, the video is in my signature here at CC, and it will remain as long as I see fit.
You don't like it, or agree with it that's fine. You are entitled to your opinion. I don't wish to discuss it with you any further.

If you would like to discuss "not by works", that's fine too, we are saved by grace through faith in Christ.
I do not believe grace is conferred by the so called sacraments of Roman Catholicism.

I agree. John says in 2 John that many deceivers who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. I believe that they are those who says that WORKS of any sort such as OBEDIENCE TO GOD is not a part of salvation or not essential or necessary.

God sent His only begotten Son into the world as the WORD that became flesh, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. This is to demonstrate His own love for us; that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Why would God have to send Jesus Christ if we can be saved by FAITH alone? Does the prophets and God's people from the beginning have no faith? I'm sure they have. If their FAITH ALONE can save them then why did Jesus still have to come and die for us? One reason is to set them (those who were called) free from the sins committed under the first covenant and to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished.

Another reason to consider is that the Holy Spirit which would empower and enable those included in the body of Christ to do the will of God will not come unless He goes away. It should be clear that the life that Jesus lived here on earth should set an example for Christians on how to live as He did and thereby receive the promised eternal life and in order that we may also share in His glory that He prepared in advance for the objects of His Mercy.

Who therefore is John referring to as deceivers and antichrists? Are they those who teach that we should WALK as Jesus did, to WALK IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDS or to WALK IN LOVE. Those who teach about purity and holiness or is it those who say that no one can obey God's laws and commands and therefore Faith alone saves without the addition of any works including obedience to God.

It should be clear now that Jesus came in the flesh that we may know that man can do everything He did and become like Him and be there also where He is right now because WITH GOD, nothing is impossible. So let us not be deceived by those who say that faith alone saves and does not acknowledge that Christ came in the flesh by not acknowledging His life in submission, love and obedience to God's will.

FAITH is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen. Jesus came in the flesh to make evident the things of God and His words fulfilled, to give us hope and to make our hope sure.

FAITH comes from hearing the message and without Jesus coming in the flesh, no message would ever come to us GENTILES and there will be no MERCY and GRACE reaching us. And what is the message that we have heard from the beginning? It is to love God by loving one another.

2 John 1:5-6
And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

Those who do not acknowledge this LOVE which is to WALK IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDS does not acknowledge Jesus as coming in the flesh.

1 John 3:16
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

2 John 1:7-11
Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.
NIV1984 Hebrews 5:7-9
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.

NIV1984 John 15:4-17
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. This is my command: Love each other.

I don't think anyone is saying works and obedience are unnecessary or not essential for the CHRISTIAN life, only that works are not the basis, ground, or effective cause of our salvation.

Ephesians 2:10 and Titus 2:14 indicate that we are saved UNTO good works, not by good works. What is being argued is that every part of salvation are all by grace through faith. Not one aspect of salvation can be accomplished by our works, as ALL are works of God. It is God who regenerates, it is God who justifies, it is God who adopts, it is God who sanctifies, it is God who preserves us, and it is God who will ultimately finish the work by glorifying us Works are our response to His Grace in the multifaceted diamond of salvation, which He gave to us freely as His Bride. And pleasing works are also a result of Grace, for without JESUS, we can do NOTHING.

NIV1984 Galatians 6:7-10
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

NIV1984 John 4:34-38
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

NIV1984 1 Peter 1:10-12
Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

I believe that no deceiver would ever teach obedience to God and no true Christian would ever teach disobedience to God.

A lot of those who do not know the saving gospel lie on children of God to say they teach disobedience when they praise Jesus for salvation.

This same sort often preach some strange revolving door self salvation under the disguise of obedience.

NIV1984 1 Corinthians 8:1-3
...We know that we all possess knowledge. KNOWLEDGE PUFFS UP, BUT LOVE BUILDS UP. The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. BUT THE MAN 2HO LOVES GOD IS KNOWN BY GOD.

NIV1984 Matthew 7:21-23
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you EVILDOERS!’

God never knew the evildoers and would not let them be with Him, and Jesus, when tempted by the devil said the same thing and even made clear what these evildoers are supposed to do;

NIV1984 Matthew 4:10
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”

And why did He say this?
Because they worship Him in vain and disobeyed His commands and served another god.

NIV1984 Mark 7:6-13
He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.” And he said to them: “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: ‘Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God), then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother. Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”

NIV1984 Romans 6:16-23
Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?...

They made SIN their master and disobeyed God.

Disobedience to God is not love for God but hatred for Him and rebellion against the supreme authority which
Lucifer did that caused him to be cast out of heaven and became God's enemy.

Apostle John said,

NIV1984 2 John 1:6
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

NIV1984 1 John 3:11
This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.

The OT and the NT message of salvation is LOVE.

NIV1984 Romans 15:18
I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done—

"No deceiver would teach obedience to God and no true Christian would ever teach disobedience to God.

For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works.

Well there should be evidence that you are saved, ie repentance, baptism, stop sinning, teaching and preaching to others
The evidence of does not equate to the means and or the brevity..............and no one that believes a entirely faith based salvation has argued this point.....the results of NOT FOR......

I already have belief in Yeshuah. But I understand that I must also yield good works based on that belief. You on the other hand, think that you only need to believe, and not yield good works. We will see how fares better in the end, the one who yielded no good works, or the one who did.
LAST time I checked....the people that peddle the blather you spread on like Veggie Mite make the '"plenteous in number group" that boasts of KNOWING the LORD and their main emphasis is works in the name of JESUS as proof.....much like yourself good luck pal......see how that works out for you

Let me quote more scripture proving that good works are required,

If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that Yehovah your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be. Take care lest there be an unworthy thought in your heart and you say, ‘The seventh year, the year of release is near,’ and your eye look grudgingly on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he cry to Yehovah against you, and you become guilty of sin.
Deuteronomy 15:7-9

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
James 4:17

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Matthew 7:19

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
John 15:16

And the Master replied, “A faithful, sensible manager is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns.
Luke 12:42-44

so that you may live a life worthy of the Master and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
Colossians 1:10

And God is able to make all favor abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8

Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.

Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way and see that they have everything they need. Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s favor in its various forms.

Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel, but with good works, as is proper for women who affirm that they worship God.
1 Timothy 2:9-10

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Master, knowing that in the Master your labor is not in vain.

this is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my master the king: that you be driven away from mankind and your dwelling place be with the beasts of the field, and you be given grass to eat like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven; and seven periods of time will pass over you, until you recognize that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind and bestows it on whomever He wishes. And in that it was commanded to leave the stump with the roots of the tree, your kingdom will be assured to you after you recognize that it is Heaven that rules. Therefore, O king, may my advice be pleasing to you: break away now from your sins by doing righteousness and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a prolonging of your prosperity.’
Daniel 4:24-27
Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of Yehovah shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and Yehovah will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,

Acts 20:34-35
Quote this one to yourself about 50 times and then get through your cultish head that they are the result of and OT required to gain or keep salvation.....and anything beyond true saving faith is REWARDED accordingly...

But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,

Not really....we know JESUS by faith and he tells us to come boldly before the throne of GOD to receive GRACE pal.......the only one in for a big surprise are those that think they know him and believe in their mind that their works play a part in obtaining, keeping, sustaining or embellishing salvation in any way shape or form.......

Who's bashing born again Christians?

You are over exaggerating yet again ☞ ☞ ☞ ☞ ☞ ☞ ☞

I was referring to Catholic Born Again Christians. I HAVE MET SEVERAL, and two of them were Priests and we had several long discussions. AMAZING, there were far less sparks and fiction than we have here. I will admit, they are doing a poor job of teaching their Parishioners, exactly what they are taught in Seminary. A lot of what people think is the Church's position, is just exaggeration and False Information conceived in the minds of certain clergy, who fell asleep when that lesson was taught. Even I, and I am not an ex-Catholic, can take a Catholic Catechism and POINT OUT every item of a TYPICAL Baptist Doctrinal Statement of Faith, and they are identical. I admit there are things they have added to it.

No, it is easy to see you probably have not been here for very long, or you would have seen some who habitually bash Catholics. It is ignorance of what they teach, even though Some of Catholicism's theories can be labeled false doctrine, BUT the PROTESTANT FALSE TEACHING OUT OF IGNORANCE, THAT THE FALSELY ASSUMED IDEA THAT THE POPE IS THE ANTICHRIST, has not HELPED ONE BIT. But if you go to just about any Church long enough, you will find something they teach, that you disagree with.

On the Theology of Catholicism, some I disagree with, and some I absolutely totally agree with. In the 7 letters to the 7 Churches of Revelation, 5 of them had HIM point out the CONDEMNATION of what they did WRONG, and yet CHRIST HIMSELF still recognizes them as being part of HIS ASSEMBLY.

Now even in this forum, I can find some that have an extreme Prejudice against CATHOLICS, for various reasons. I think the Devil wants us to HATE Catholics to have something to ACCUSE US OF. TRY to explain away extreme prejudiced against Catholic, when HE HAS SAID:

1 John 3:11 (HCSB)
11 For this is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another,

But the FACT remains, a few of them are VERY HUNGRY TO BE TAUGHT THE WORD. Though I did not talk to many, the few seemed to be sincerely Hungry. AS LONG AS I DID NOT TRY TO DRAG THEM AWAY FROM THE CHURCH, they were receptive to expository Teaching. I figured if the HOLY SPIRIT would want them to leave the Catholic Church, HE would put it on their hearts. I do see a POTENTIAL CHURCH SPLIT, that may involve the Catholic Church. Between those who have made a worship of MARY, and those who are determined to WORSHIP the LORD ONLY. It is Festering, and if the LORD tarries, it could lead to a major Church split.

I agree that no true Christian would ever teach disobedience to God, (except perhaps out of ignorance of PARTICULAR commands, not yet fully knowing all of God's councel yet), but be careful about saying no deceiver would teach obedience to God. Cults teach obedience to part or parts of the Bible and then add additional revelations to the Bible, (book of Mormon, Watchtower dogma, and traditions) and some fail to rightly divide the Word by putting Old Covenant commands (like circumcision and dietary laws) on Gentile believers under the New Covenant, that are not written to Gentile believers under the New Covenant. (Though there is nothing wrong with keeping such things as personal preference without making them mandatory dogmas.)

But these things would not constitute obedience, only partial obedience to particular commands here and there, which is not obedience.

Not directed at you, just a general statement.
