Do you ever pray that the Lord would revenge or avenge your enemies?

Revelation 6:9-10 KJVS
[9] And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: [10] And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

Psalm 143:12 KJVS
[12] And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.

Interesting.

When someone says or does something to me that really hurts me and/or angers me, there's a part of me that desires to hurt them back in some way. I won't lie about that. I've felt that way more than once. Who hasn't?

But I don't think I've ever personally asked God to take revenge on my or anyone else's behalf. That doesn't seem like a very Christ-like thing to pray for.

It is always "Thy will be done." While we await the return of our Lord and Savior we are not given to will any of such ourselves..

Thinking on the theme inthe past, I have determined, not concluded, that the best vengeance to come will be none at all since the reward of those who love evil is already known. Eternity knowing they had denied the joy and glory of being with our Maker......now that is vengeance without lifting a finger, and soemthing to ponder.

When ever i ever catch myself wishing the wrath of God upon anyone i repent of it right away.. On this side of the grave i believe we are to love even our worst enemies and bless them not curse them.. The Saints in Revelation 6 where on the other side of the grave so it is a different situation..

Maybe it would prevent some from taking out the revenge themselves, after all the Scriptures say...

Romans 12:19 KJVS
[19] Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Do you believe David was mistaken when he wrote...

Psalm 143:12 KJVS
[12] And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.

When I read the name David, I think of the translation fromthe Hebrew, Beloved, ergo my mind goesdirectly to th eAuthor of the Word , Jesus, Yeshua… The Throne of Davidd, the Beloed, is where our Savior is seated forever. I love the Beloved, and I try to alway shear Him as I listen to Him.

It is hard, when Jesus said forgive the people nailing him to a cross. So why should I not say same to my enemies..

But scripture is clear. As you showed..

I think it is a given that the Lord takes a dim view on anyone persecuting one of His followers. It may not be completely wrong to pray like David did, but when someone does bad things to me I usually defend them. Why? Because vengeance belongs to the Lord. He will repay. It isn't pleasant to bear up under His wrath. I start to think of times when I treated someone in the same bad manner and find myself praying that God goes easy on them. Face it, before we were called of God we did the worst by many people. Even since being called, our record is not spotless. Everyone needs a little forgiveness.

Imprecatory prayers are found all through the bible........I have prayed for the Lord to deal with those who have done me wrong at times....and he has answered......and I can tell you for sure......between my brother and I (our dad was killed when I was three and my brother one) have both been teaching, preaching, spreading the word for over 60 years between us and I can list possibly 10 men that accosted us as children and or stole from us or even threatened us with violence and all 10 are dead..........I had a friend once who is a believer.....his dog which was a violation of an agreement we had peed all over my tools in a cabin I was building and I went off about it....he issued a veiled threat that he would shoot any man over that dog......a week later he got sick, two weeks later was in Barnes JEWISH in St. Louis and at week three died of a 107.5 fever with a cancer that NO one could identify..........

there is a balance for sure.....we can forgive someone while turning them over to GOD at the same time....nor do we have to hod a grudge when we do turn them over.....

So ditch all the Psalms and OT? After all, it was written by various men authors (although all inspired by God) living in OT times.

Amen, if we do His will we are defending the faith that comes from that will. It defends us without us lifting a finger . We are to put it on and keep it on. No armor for the back he is the rear guard .He has got the back side.

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

No..

All scripture is profitable for learning.. But the Holy Bible is a revelation in it's totality.. We need to read it like a book to the end to get the flow of the message..
