The Word always confirms itself:

After listening to Peter and believing that Jesus was the messiah whom was crucified, those present were upset and asked what THEY MUST DO. Peter DID NOT say, “Nothing else needed. You are good to go; you believe the message. Peter’s response to their question was to give instructions that everyone must follow after believing in the Lord Jesus. The instructions are recorded in Acts 2:36-42:

Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

It is recorded that both Gentiles and Samaritans also followed Peter’s life giving message of belief, repentance, water and Holy Ghost baptism: (Acts 10:44-48; Acts 8:12; 14-17)

Notice Peter’s interaction with the Jewish leaders concerning what the Angel of the Lord told Cornelius, a Gentile, to do. He was told to seek out Peter who would tell thee words (explain) what he must do to be saved. (Acts 11:13-14)

Why would Peter command that Cornelius and others be water baptized if it was not a part of salvation?: “Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.” Acts 10:47-48

Lastly, individual disciples at Ephesus were given and received the same message from Paul. (Acts 19) This account specifically points to the fact that water baptism must be done in Jesus name. If water baptism did not play a part in salvation it would not be necessary to re-baptize these disciples in water at all.

Due to the multiple recorded examples one should realize that no individual is exempt from following the command given by God through Peter. Every individual throughout history has been/or is a descendant of one of the groups noted; ie, Jews, Gentiles, Samaritans.

Keep in mind that Peter's instructions included the fact that "...the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. I believe it is an accurate statement to say, God is still calling people.
It does not mention water(h20) baptism an Old tesetemmt ceremonial law used to introduce a new priests .Christ introduced the new order of priest hood of the believer.

To repent is a work of God that works in us, with us who are yoked with Him in order for him to turn us, both will (give us ears) and do (empower us) to move according to the will of the good pleasure of God.

If not who is turning you so you in turn can ask for forgiveness by repenting ? Are you turning to one own conscience?.

Peter had a similar experience. (cause and effect) When Jesus said to him .Who do you say I am? And then gave him the words . "You are the Christ the Son of God. Then Peter being informed by the Holy Spirit acknowledged the work of Christ in him. that worked to both will and do his god pleasure.

It recognized as a first love "the hearing of God" and believing as a result . Men in Revelation were turning to the leaders of their sect rather than their first love repent and believe God .Not ones own conscience. God is much greater than our hearts.

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.Revelation2:4-6

When he said... what must I do? Was in in response the Holy Spirit working in him or those who gave him the information?

What he must do to be saved. is believe the work of God working in us by which we can believe. (John 6)

Without him we can do nothing to include turning toward Him in order to exercise of new born again faith .

Yes God cares not for unbelief, the confirming sign of tongues. Tongues one of the manners of prophecy that confirms unbelief in the heart of natural man, born of corrupted flesh and spirit.
So tongues confirmed unbelief with Cornelius and his companions in Acts 10?

Um, no.

Try again.

actually I was baptized as an infant in a Lutheran church but never attended

when I was 5, my parents started attending an evangelical church and that was where I was saved at 5 ... accepted Christ and yes it stuck...later baptized in water at around 13 or 14 and the baptized in the Holy Spirit at 18

but been to many churches and denoms over the years

since you asked. I'm not even sure what Lutherans believe
Wow, i got that wrong..lol Forgive me,

Not sure what you mean by baptised with the holy spirit at 18. If you were saved at 5. Other than that Praise God.
Me, I was saved in a baptist church at around 7 years old, Baptised in water about 2 or 3 years later. Stayed in that church until I went into the military at 17. During my time in the military, attended a few multi-denominational (they just called it protestant I think, but it was very structured, alot like Lutheran or catholic) when I got back home, went back to the same church I grew up in, eventually left because of the pastor. Then my marriage fell apart and I left God altogether and became a prodigal for 5 years. When my best friend as a child finally called me (A god thing) and I started going to his non denomination church and have been there ever since.

Jesus was baptized to fulfil the expectations of the Jewish ceremonial law. Jesus was no more righteous after He was baptized that before He was baptized.
The following scriptures refer to God's children as a royal priesthood. How do you believe one becomes part of the priesthood of God?:
1 Peter 2:5
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2:9-10
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Now take this, and look at the symbol of the preisthood in the OT.

Moses took aaron and his sons to the river

1. He washed (baptised) them in water
2. He gave the sacrifice
3. He anointed them with the holy oil

This is a picture of our eternal salvation. Or our own dedication as royal prists in Gods churhc

1 we are washed (baptised) by the holy water that endures forever (As john the baptist said, Jesus will baptize you with the HS)
2. We are baptized into the death of Christ, (Holy Spirit baptism) where our sin debt are completely wiped clean (as if we died on the cross ourself) (rom 6, Col 2)
3. The Holy Spirit is poured out on us, (anoint) and given to our hearts as a guarantee, it is also the means by which we receive chastening, teaching, leading, gifting, and any other work the HS does in our lives.

Water is the symbol. Both in the OT and New, of what God does to us. It is not the means by which these things occure

So tongues confirmed unbelief with Cornelius and his companions in Acts 10?

Um, no.

Try again.
I believe that Cornelius speaking in tongues did confirm unbelief---
Peter's unbelief that Gentiles could be saved and filled with the Holy Spirit just as Jewish believers.
If you study Acts 10 carefully, you will see Peter's attitude---
-----I am not going into a Gentile's house, it is a waste of time, etc.----

Yes water(H20) as shadow representing the good things to come. Not a "sign gift" to confirm a person is being filled with something. Jesus says it an evil generation, natural unconverted man (seeing is believing) that does seek after one. We walk by faith the unseen eternal.

It is used when a believer decides to become a member of the a royal priesthood after the new order Melchedik. Jesus waited till he was in his 30's to begin the ministry . The Jews who knew not Christ in John 3;22-26 argued with John the last Levi under the old order of priests. They complained that a Levite must do the work . And now one from the tribe of Judah has the privileged to introduce new prospects . It has no redeeming value and like the sabbaths... not something we can judge one another in regard to. We are no closer to God either way.

Try not to get discouraged. Plant and water those biblical seeds and God that will take over and give the increase/understanding. (1 Cor 3:7)

"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." Isaiah 55:9-11
Thank you Wansvic for your calm demeanor. I just want to encourage everyone to hold on to what God has given you and try to understand where another is coming from.

Some have been browbeat with this tongues doctrine and they are and will remain cold to it. If God has not put it upon you to believe this way, that is okay. We understand. Try to understand us also.

That's what you keep saying. The sign does not confirm belief, but no faith.... natural unconverted man.

Only if they were unbelievers. If there were no unbelievers there .The sign is waiting for one to walk in. (there you are I see you).
The sign is functional. Got its ears perked up, even when there is no one their to accuse and confirm unbelief (no faith) .

Tongues is one of many manners God did bring new prophecy as revelation . He has sealed off the possibility of even another word or sound with seven seals .

They sell electronic devices today that read the gospel in other languages and interpret what two who do not know the other person language. Two can share the good news .

That does not make sense. Each person will be held accountable and judged by the Word. God is a just God. If what you are saying is true then everyone understanding must be acquired through the use of a language they have no understanding Greek.
Now take this, and look at the symbol of the preisthood in the OT.

Water is the symbol. Both in the OT and New, of what God does to us. It is not the means by which these things occure
In scripture there are two distinct water applications that occurred at the OT tabernacle laver.
The first is a complete washing for entrance into the priesthood. (Exodus 40:11-14) Afterward those who minister must keep their hands and feet spiritually clean by being washed in the water of the Word of God. (Exodus 30:18-21)

A foreshadow of water baptism can be seen in God’s command to Moses to wash Aaron and his sons. They were to be washed prior to being clothed with priestly garments:

“And thou shalt anoint the laver and his foot, and sanctify it. And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water. And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest's office. And thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats:” Exodus 40:11-14

1. Washing of Aaron and sons was preparation for the priesthood and is a foreshadow of NT water baptism.
2. After washing them head to toe they were clothed with holy garments.
3. They were then anointed with oil - foreshadow of NT Holy Ghost baptism.
4. Afterward Aaron and sons had the blood applied to their right ear, thumb, and toe. (Exodus 29:19-20)

It comes by personal desire. Not all from the tribe of Levi were priests . Its a shadow no substance.

I would offer to begin with God is not served by human hands as if he who satisfies all needs needed something from the clay he is forming Christ in. ..

I don't think Balaam's Ass was baptized (h20) before he brought prophecy in a tongue. It worked in halting the false prophet to both will and do His good pleasure of God .

Numbers 22:28 And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

Three times denotes the end of a matter.

Having a bible in one's language would be useless if what you say is accurate. Each person will be judged according to the Word itself according to Jesus. One cannot say well my pastor, friend, parent, etc. told me what the actual bible said and I followed their instructions.

No doubt God's Word has withstood time in order that all have an opportunity to search it and find truth.

God also states that man is without excuse because spiritual concepts can be seen in the way God created our world. With this comment in mind ask yourself a question: How do creation concepts of the birth of a natural baby line up with a spiritual birth?

Egg and father's sperm (blood) join
Baby is immersed in water
Baby breaks forth from water
Baby intakes surrounding air

Just something to ponder.
