When Jesus died for our sins it was to take the punishment we deserved for our sins, right? With Jesus taking the punishment we deserve for our sins we therefore are not under punishment for our sins and thus have eternal life, correct? Am I looking at salvation the right way?

Hi LeeLoving, that is correct. Jesus sums it up nicely for us in the following verse:

John 5
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

We are saved/come into possession of eternal life from the very moment that we first believe (come to 'saving' faith in Jesus), and true Christians/believers will not be judged and condemned at the Great White Throne with the unbelievers .. cf John 3:18.

~Deut

2 Corinthians 5
21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Considering what you asked in your OP, I should have posted these two passages as well (edit: 2 passages and 1 verse :)).

Isaiah 53
5 He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
6 All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
Romans 5
8 God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

~Deut

1 Peter 2
24 He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

Agree with all you have said here..

Am I looking at salvation the right way?
I cannot see anything wrong with your two statements above..

I would hasten to add that to have the Atonement of Jesus we must be following the Actual Jesus and not another fake Jesus.. So people must believe what Jesus preached not be believing in doctrines that oppose what Jesus preached..

Yes, you are. When confessing your sins to God it must be of a contrite heart for you must actually be sorry that you have offended God. Afterwards the Holy Spirit will come into your heart to comfort and guide you in the repentance process leading to sanctification. This process will last the rest of your life.

Forgiveness of sin is not Salvation. All mankind has been forgiven, He took the sin of the whole world. Yet certainly not all mankind is saved.

Forgiveness of sin allows for salvation. Salvation comes when we are saved from death by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, that comes when we believe that Jesus was the sacrificial lamb, that we are sinners in need of a savior, we repent and turn to him and then we accept His free gift of eternal life through the Holy Spirit.

You see there is a problem. Sin and death. All the way back in Genesis. Adam sinned, mankind died. The solution, Jesus died for the forgiveness of sin and sent the Holy Spirit for the resurrection of life.

AMEN....he took our sins (ALL OF THEM) and his righteousness is put to our account by faith.....and we have been rendered legally INNOCENT (JUSTIFIED).....the bible is clear....there is a plethora of promises and truths that must be denied, swept under the table and or taken out of context to peddle a dime store salvation that can be lost or maintained by man and what he does or does not do......

If all mankind has been forgiven, then there wouldn't be so many people going to hell.
If your sin is forgiven, then there would be no sin debt, no liability... there would be nothing to go to hell FOR.

Maybe you just made an awkward statement, and that wasn't how you meant it.

You don't go to hell for the sin debt, you go to hell for denying the one who paid it.

You are reading things into 1John2:2 which the verse doesn't actually say.

The fact that Jesus died for the whole world, does not in any way suggest that forgiveness is automatically APPLIED to the whole world.

The entire world is not automatically forgiven, and does not have redemption automatically applied to them.
The entire world does however have forgiveness AVAILABLE to them, but it is only APPLIED if they ACCEPT it.

There are many unbiblical views of the atonement floating around... this isn't as bad as some... but it's still not good.

I disagree. It is very clear that Jesus was the sacrificial lamb. And that His sacrifice was fully sufficient, and fully complete. There is surely a differentiation in the scripture between believers and non believers.
And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

What forgiveness of sin allows for is the restoration of the Holy Spirit lost to Adam. Ergo eternal life.

We didn't choose to be forgiven, He didn't ask us for the time and the place that He would achieve that goal.

He does however give us the opportunity to turn to Him, believe that He did what He said He would do (fully forgive sin) and accept the free gift of the Holy Spirit.

Or refuse to and go to Hell.

Problem: Adam, sin and death

Solution: Jesus, forgiveness of sin, and restoration of life.

Look at it from the hebrew perspective: Atonement was made on the day of atonement for ALL of Israel, yet if they did not humble themselves on that day, it did them no good.

No...

It is clear not all mankind will be forgiven because many shall be cast into the eternal Lake of Fire..

To have the gift of the Atonement of the LORD Jesus Christ one must accept the gift that is being offered.. Once accept the Gift by Believing Jesus and trusting that the Atoning gift will see one saved..

Salvation comes by accepting His sacrifice for ones sins.. Once one has all their sins forgiven then they are acceptable to God in His perfect Eternal existence..

No. Jesus was punished at the hands of sinners who hated God. So naturally they would hate God in the person of our Lord Jesus.

For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. Psa.69:9

And his followers experience the same to some degree,

you have shared in the sufferings of Christ 1Pet.4:13

to share in his sufferings, and to be like him in his death Phil.3:10

Jesus taught this,

And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. Jn.16:3

Go about the Lord's work and read and pray. False teaching has infected Christian theology like a cancer.

You go to the lake of fire because of your unbelief, because you don't know the Lord, not your sin, if it were not so ALL would perish, none would be saved.

No..

People will go to the eternal lake of fire because they have sinned and ended up being unforgiven for those sins..

"Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him" (Romans 5:9).

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace" (Eph. 1:7)

"For God was pleased...to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross" (Col. 1:19-20).

"He is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens" (Hebrews 7:25).

When you trust and have faith in Jesus, He is "able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy" (Jude 24).

GODs standard of righteousness (the law) Is perfection and no man could be perfect according to the Spirit with his own strength because of the weakness of his flesh.

GOD could have forgiven man but If JESUS had not of took the punishment for man by death and that death was on the cross then GOD would not In truth loved righteousness.

GOD loves righteousness and will do everything right and according to HIS own standard which man could not reach and be acceptable to GOD after adam fell.

Hebrews 1:7-10
King James Version

7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

8 But unto the Son [he saith], Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness [is] the sceptre of thy kingdom.

9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, [even] thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
