Oh my. You cannot comprehend that Paul is reprimanding the Corinthians for behavior that they should not engage in. Paul is saying how dumb is it when a trumpet sounds with a sound that is not that of a trumpet?
Well there is nothing I can say to persuade you to forsake this behavior. Verse 22 Tongues are a sign not for them that believe but to them that believe not.
For the cause of Christ

Paul lists the Spiritual gifts in chapter 12 because he does not want people to be ignorant concerning the fact that they exist:
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 1 Cor 12:1
And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 1 Cor 12:6-7
Notice the 8th and 9th gifts in Paul's list:
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;
to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
To another faith by the same Spirit;
to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
To another the working of miracles;
to another prophecy;
to another discerning of spirits;
to another
divers kinds of tongues;
to another the interpretation of tongues: 1 Cor 12:8-10
Paul says to desire spiritual gifts and ESPECIALLY the gift of prophecy because it edifies more than just the individual UNLESS speaking in tongues is interpreted for a church's edification.
Afterward, Paul is explaining the differences between prophecy and tongues in Chapter 14:
"Follow the way of love and
EAGERLY desire spiritual gifts,
ESPECIALLY the gift of prophecy."
He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues
UNLESS he interprets, so that the church may be edified.
