“The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints (God’s people) who had fallen asleep [in death] were raised [to life]; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection, they entered the holy city (Jerusalem) and appeared to many people.”
MATTHEW 27:52-53 AMP

My question is, how come the saints were raised as well with Jesus? Is that to show when Jesus comes back again, he will raise the saints?
Thank you all for helping me understand
Hello TrustingGod4life,
The 7 Feasts of the Lord (see Lev 23). Form the foundations of all Prophecy. And the foundation upon which ALL Scripture is built.
1)Passover, 2)Unleavened Bread, 3)Firstfruits, 4)Pentesost, 5)Rosh Hashanah/Trumpets 6)Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement 7)Tabernacles
Three of these were harvest Feasts/festivals. Passover, Pentecost & Tabernacles. Every male Jew of age was required to travel (Pilgrimage) to Jerusalem & bring a gift for each of these 3 Feasts/festivals.
The 1st Pilgrimage feast was Passover: Lev 23:5 Passover began at twilight on the 14th day of Nisan. Then on Nisan 15, the Feast of Unleavened Bread began & continued for 7 days Lev 23:6. The 2nd day of Unleavened Bread is called firstfruits.
Lev 23:10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
(NOTE: The Priest was to lift upward/wave the barley sheaf blossoms & dedicate the harvest unto the Lord. This wave offering consecrated the entire coming field of the coming harvest)
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
(NOTE: Nisan 15 is a High Sabbath, meaning no matter what day Nisan 15 (1st day of Unleavened Bread) fell on, it was treated as a regular Sabbath. Therefore Nisan 14 (Passover day) was always a day of Sabbath preperation. So, the reference to Sabbath in verse 11 is to the 1st day of Unleavened Bread. Verse 11 say's the day after Nisan 15 the firstfruit wave offering is made.
Firstfruits (Nisan 16) begins the 50 day (omer) count to Pentecost, the largest harvest (wheat) & 2nd mantory Pilgrimage Feast. Two loaves (WITH LEAVEN Lev 23:17) are raised before the Lord at Pentecost. These represent both Old & New Testament assemblies. Both ages were full of leaven, that is, sinful people (Eph 2:12-16). God accepts them & us because of FAITH placed in the Sacrificial Sin Atonement of Messiah/Jesus the Christ. That cleanses us and removes ALL sin (1 Jn 1:7, Rev 1:5). And most importantly the 1st Pentecost post resurrection is where the Holy Spirit is given & 3000 souls are harvested.
1 Corinthians 15:
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 (B) Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
(NOTE: Jesus is the Firstfuits & His sinless sacrifise consecrated the entire coming resurrection of every person that has ever lived. What you see in Matt 27:52&53 Jesus lifting up to the Father a firstfuits offering from the grave.)
Tabernacles: The 3rd mantory pilgrimage Feast, grape & olive harvest, concluded the agricultural harvest year. So, we had barley & wheat = Grain: Jesus is the Bread sent down from Heaven. Grapes/Wine = His blood given on the altar to atoned for our sin. Oil = His Holy Spirit to enable us to live for Him. We have reaped a harvest of blessing through repenting of our sin, putting our faith in the sacrificial death (sins wage paid) burial (proof he dies) & resurrection (Gos receipt, payment received & accepted) thru our faith in Messiah/Jesus the Christ God imputes/exchanging/transfers our sin onto Christ & His Righteousness onto us. What a merciful, graceful, loving, mighty God we serve.
We should ourselves study & test all. This reply is MOO! My Opinion Only
