That's probably because the threads have to wait for approval. So none of us three knew the other was making a thread on the same news. Great minds think alike is all I have to say. ;)

They suggest it was something to do with the renovation work...
Unless it’s something else.

This caught my attention as we had a massive fire of York Minister
some years back. It was hit by lightening just after the Arch Bishop of York
was consecrated there. He was questioning the virgin birth and miracles
of Jesus. At the time many saw it as Devine retribution.

Lol exactly! I didn't see any posts on it when I wrote mine, we were probably all writing at the same time. So maybe we were all the first ones!

The renovation work is being cited as the cause. I wonder whether this actually is a terrorist attack. It was only a week or so ago
that I read that the French authorities had prevented plots to attack Notre Dame. It wouldn't take much for one or two terrorists
to pose as workmen. A French jihadi sympathiser could be responsible.

I can’t critisise a country for wanting to rebuild a famous building if they want.

But am I the only one who thinks - wow it took just two days for pledges and donations
from the people of France to raise €700m euros for a Roman Catholic Church.

I wonder how long it takes to raise that sort of money for things which really
matter.

Maybe people think I’m being harsh but I don’t think God is impressed by
fancy buildings.

I remember a few years ago I was helping out on a children’s camp.
We went on a day trip to York one day and visited York Minister another
Roman Catholic famous old massive cathedral.

That morning we had been doing bible club and it happened to include the
story of how Jesus said the Pharisees were like white washed tombs full of
dead men’s bones.

At the Minister, we were looking around and there was one loveable slightly
cheeky boy about 8 with us. He was being very well behaved and looking
around, he was wearing a cap. Suddenly one of the Priests in the Cathadral
walked over to him, swatted of his cap and told him to show more respect in
God’s house!

The kid pointed at the Priest, told him he was a Phareesee and full of dead men’s
bones!

You know what, he was right!

I agree about the money spent on a building, and I don't think that's at all harsh.

Seems the young boy was too smart!
