a dream
I walked amongst sun drenched wooded hills in the evening, dusk rather.
The light prevailed upon my vision, beautiful, golden rays of blind reflections of
the past.....
Or future perchance?
Be it past present or future, it was time to make my way home, all the others were
before me, I was last in line.
A strange sense of silence was like thunder in my
minds eye, or an avalanche that devours
without sound.
I pressed on, with an urgency, but no destination.
Something behind me, a menace lost in the sun kissed cusp between night
and day.
I've caught a glimpse, and stagger with fear from stem to stern, top to
bottom............
through and through.
A bear of enormous proportions, patient, intent.
Quicken the step, and it brings him closer, slacken the pace
closer still.
All composure is a memory, with feet like wind I bound over rock
and stone, betwixt brush and thorn, through trees of agony with
the beast just behind.
No hope.
I can smell his breath, and feel the warmth, the stench of
his body.
Stricken with terror, no escape.
But whats this? A structure just ahead. Is that not my school from
elementary days?
Dilapidated, run down. No matter, there's doors and windows
brick and mortar, safety within.
Twink of an eye, and I'm inside, but the bear was faster.
Almost tore me asunder, when I failed the lock.
Down the hall, panic my only friend, all about left and right
open windows offer a safe haven.
Onward I stumble, no choice, that door at the end of
the hall, there is my solitude.
Burst through and I'm aghast, boarded windows
and there's no going back.
On the floor, under a desk, the beast is there, murderous for
flesh.
