How I do the work of believing in Jesus.
As soon as I wake up and before my mind begins to wander I read a chapter of the New Testament and then an Alexander Maclaren sermon on it (free on BibleHub), which I recommend everyone try.
I do a delivery-driver job which allows me to pay my bills, and because I am alone in the van most of the time I am free to chat with God or sing-songs to Him or to meditate on His things (I never have the radio on). Mostly I drive in the countryside and being in nature makes it easy to keep faith strong and give praise and thanks. And sometimes its just quiet time with God. It has been a great blessing for me.
More and more and more I am cutting out people and places and activities that are discouraging for my faith, including close family, which is hard, but ultimately it is in their best-interest because they need Jesus too.
I now have 9 T-shirts that just have 'Jesus' printed on them. It might sound silly but when I wear one I feel like Iron-Man, and when I don't I feel like Tony Stark.
Apart from essential conversations at work about work, more and more I am cutting out any conversations that aren't about Jesus, because at the end of the day He is the "one important thing" (remember Mary and Martha - "Martha, Martha").
But I don't just want pointless-chats about Jesus as though He is just another topic or a magic word, but ones that address the need for the "Work of God" by us, which is the work of continual remembrance of Jesus, including His sufferings on our behalf, and that "He died that we may live", which, of course, is quite sobering.
And after, for instance, reading a sermon and thereby filling my head with Jesus I try to not quickly let any garbage go into my head to displace it. If Jesus is in my head then it will yield growth, but as soon as it is displaced with the latest 'news' or gossip, the growth will stop. Don't easily let a 5 minute phone-call with an unbeliever undo all your good work!
I am spending time on this web-site in the hope that I will find it is also a way to help boost and maintain my faith...
"I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith." - ( Romans 1:12 )
Another thing that God seems to be encouraging me to do now is to go out and talk to people about Jesus. My new Jesus T-Shirts have already started lots of conversations about Him and I hope this all continues and even snowballs. I wish churches had the name 'Jesus' on top of them instead of a cross. I'm getting 'Jesus' printed on my jacket too and if I get a car it will be on that also.
And I feel the Spirit strongly leading me to get my life and household in proper-order because at the moment I am dis-organised and a bit chaotic and there is clutter everywhere and so on, and dis-order breaks focus.
And, once I have organised myself and especially perhaps my finances, I want to pour any surplus I might have precisely into bringing Jesus into people's lives in whatever way the Spirit leads me.
I don't go to churches because I find them discouraging and I come away deflated. I hope this web-site might be a church I can find encouraging fellowship in.
And I am trying to keep my diet such that, as much as possible I eat the foods God made in the form He made them, which, the more I do the more emotionally well-balanced I feel. So, for instance, I eat oranges rather than drinking orange-juice.
And when I am in awe of His creation it seems to be a very natural form or praise and thanksgiving without words, so I try to get out for a walk when I can and find a grassy place to sit for a while and soak it all in.
Anyway, that's roughly how I am trying to do my work.
And I know full-well that even just 1 hour from writing this, the devil as a roaring lion could have devoured me out of this current summer of faith I am enjoying and back into another winter in the world.
Please say a prayer for me.
I pray God bless you.
