Paul was worried that some of them may be deceived just like eve was deceived.

...But I AM AFRAID that just as Eve was DECEIVED by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be LED ASTRAY from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3

The truth is that the deceiver has been deceiving from the beginning until now.

These deceivers will REJECT and NULLIFY the Word and believe the deceiving spirits.(Isaiah 5:20-24, Mark 7:6-13)

...while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:13

...THE SPIRIT CLEARLY SAYS that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through HYPOCRITICAL LIARS, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 1 Timothy 4:1-2

How would we know who were the ones that were deceived? We know that Eve was deceived when she believed the deceiver and disobeyed God's command.

Who are the deceivers and who were deceived?

..But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

...At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. Matthew 24:10‭-‬14‭, ‬24

...For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. 2 Corinthians 11:13‭-‬15

And those that were deceived believed in the deceivers mentioned above and disobeyed God's commands because they were made to believe that they would not surely die, IOW, "always saved". But scriptures warn us not to be deceived;

...Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them. Ephesians 5:6‭-‬7

...Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”... Genesis 3:1‭-‬19

Just think what could have happened if Eve did not believe the serpents deception but OBEYED God instead. ...NO NEED TO DISCUSS SALVATION FOR SURE because no one needs to be saved.

The truth is that Adam and Eve were created according to the image of God's righteousness and holiness and they BELIEVE and OBEY God until they got DECEIVED and disobeyed God.

They died when the HOLY SPIRIT left them just as God told them that they "will surely die", which the serpent then used to trick or deceive them by adding a word to God's words. .."you will NOT surely die". The same thing that the deceivers today are doing. They add and omit words from God's words and say things such as CONTEXT, VERBIAGE, TENSES etc.. then goes smoothly BEYOND WHAT IS WRITTEN. The best example is the word ALONE which is so simple but has created so much division and misunderstandings.

If they were deceived, why can't you?

Did God warn us about the deception? If He did, then why refuse to take heed of them?

So who would say now that OBEDIENCE TO GOD HAS NO BEARING IN SALVATION?[

Oh YES, but it is not you.
Many on this board, and even me, but the WAY YOU CONTRADICT SCRIPTURE, tells me you follow A FALSE PROPHET.
How judgemental you are?
The pharisees did this all the time and you are sounding very much like one.

I shared with you the Nazarene church statement of faith, and you came up blank.
I have talked to many different types of believers and after a time, I find we agree
on almost everything, except maybe one point.

Then I become this evil individual, the worst person in the universe.
If I am 99% the same, then the division is wrong, a kind of brain washing.

Every cult, extremist group does this, because if they did not have a clear definition of
who they were, their identity would disappear. But my identity is in Christ and His word.
And I want all to look at Him, dwell in Him, has His word in their heart and call to Him
to guide them. Do you have eyes to see and ears to hear, my friend.

No such thing as unmerited gift in the Bible.

God gives the gift to whomever He wants to give it, and He says he gives it to those who obey Him.
Okay, I asked this before, but I see I'll have to ask again: Do you know what a Contradiction in Terms means?

Oh heck, I'll just post the definition for you because it's obvious you don't.

"contradiction in terms"

phrase of contradiction

1. a statement or group of words associating objects or ideas that are incompatible.

2. A phrase or expression in which the component words contradict one another.

To say one must do something (obey) in order to receive a free gift is A CONTRADICTION!

I don't think I have ever encountered, in my whole Christian life, one who is as ignorant of the gospel as you are.

A strange alliance

1. Confess ones sin and keep a close relationship with God
2. Do what you like, and if you want put on a good show
3. There are no moral rules or obligations at all
4. We are to walk like Jesus
5. We have an eternal perfect spirit, and a lost flesh that will be destroyed

One thing unites this group, a sense of being against legalists and sinless perfectionists.
But how they classify this group is hazy. It ranges from true "I have arrived" to I am against
Wesley and the Nazarene church, or I am against all main line Christian churches.

So which is it really? A chance for the enemy to cause division or an exercise the Lord is
bringing so we can learn forgiveness, love and grace between the many diverse emphasises
in the communion of the saints.

Would I be an enemy to be a Baptist, congregationalist, anglican, methodist, URC, charismatic,
Holy Spirit filled believer, brethren, Nazarene then probably it is a true problem. If not then
something in our communcation has failed, and love and grace is not bridging the gap.

I say this because I have fellowship openly with all these groups, and count them as brothers
and sisters in the Lord. And I say all this to explore what is actually going on, and to shine the
light of Christ that He gives us in His fellowship. God bless you all, Amen.

See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness
Hebrews 3:12-13

This is my question. If we have free will we can choose to follow or choose to let our
hearts become hardened.

Sadly this seems to contradict "His sheep listen to His voice".
But then if this promise is spoken from heaven it is spoken only of those who make it through.

What greater test of the chosen than to give them a real choice of where they lie.
Sadly the more one hearts is hardened the more one is convinced that path is right, until
God becomes ones enemy and judgement falls. Some conversations I have had with people
testify that they refuse to resolve sin, however they define it, and would rather abide there
than risk believing Jesus.

As i said earlier: This is one thing i was corrected on by God

I used to say God can use sin to HUMBLE us. I repent and recant of that statement

As you quoted from the Bible: sin is ALL negative, sin HARDENS our hearts. doesnt humble them! WHAT WAS I THINKING?

Amen. What humbles us is Christ forgives us and is willing to be our servant.
What I find the hardest is not to want to blast those who despise me, because it is me,
I mean hey, be nasty to that guy over there, but its me.

Then I realise, Jesus died for me, because sin ruled my heart, so I must die for that guy
who is killing me. And that is so odd, that hurt has been healed, that being alone and
abandoned has become I am known and loved, and can bow, and be broken.

And praise the Lord it is me. This privilege, to share in His suffering, to carry part of
that which He carried for me, to others. It is so profound, I did not see it before, but
when it echoes in oneself, you see what Paul meant. We are safe in Him.

Praise God we have His word, and in His people we can know this is the way.
Dear Lord, thankyou dear Father, for this way, this word and your blessing, Amen.

It is not a contradiction.
The gift is about God giving it to whom He wants to give it instead of a person doing the works of the law.
You don't have to do the works of the law anymore to be called a child of God.

The Burnt Offering; The Grain Offering; The Fellowship Offering; The Sin Offering; The Guilt Offering; Dietary Laws; Purification After Childbirth; Cleansing From Infectious Skin Diseases; Cleansing From Mildew; Discharges Causing Uncleanness; The Day of Atonement; Rules for Priests; The Sabbath; Firstfruits; The Passover and Unleavened Bread; Feast of Weeks; Feast of Trumpets; Feast of Tabernacles; Oil and Bread Set Before The LORD; the Sabbath Year; The Year of Jubilee; Circumcision.

Very late--if we're still talking about saved by grace and not by works--but I've heard it said "faith is the root of salvation, and works are the fruit of salvation."

That sounds catchy except that the scripture says faith alone is dead. So that would make a dead root.

We are NOT saved because we CAN'T obey!!!

The message that saves is meant for those WHO DO RIGHT!

The gospel is given to those who do right: Acts 13:26 "Fellow children of Abraham and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.

The message is given to children of Abraham who obey God and to GENTILES who do right by FEARING God.

Who is ACCEPTABLE TO GOD?

Acts 10:35 but that in every nation those who fear Him and live good lives are acceptable to Him.

2 Timothy 1:9 (HCSB)
9 He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.

9 He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.
That means the plan for God to save us through Jesus was made before the world or anything was made.

Sin is not the issue? Sin is what separates us from God.

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.
See...this proves you have no understanding...Sin is not the issue....faith into the work of Christ is the issue genius....sin has been dealt with at the cross....and last time I checked I am under the new covenant of Grace....too bad your stuck under the law deceiver!!

Anyone claiming a special revelation is not only false, but deceived as well!!

Amen.

The problem in some discussions now is some believe works need not exist.
Hidden below this is a view of salvation that is more supernatural than spiritual.
So we are not transformed through following the way, rather we are passive while God
does everything, and the life of the believer is not a shinning light, but just a sinner who
points to Jesus.

So one side get sensitive to how you say salvation by grace which I would hold to,
but it is with the knowledge we are called to walk the way and be transformed through obedience.

One sign that the anti-legalists have to spot legalists which they wish to stamp out, is anyone
who says obedience is a symbol of a believer. The vehmence of this group and their expression is
a bit difficult to take and unexpected. But praise God, He refines us through the fire.

So expect to be told you have a false gospel, are deceived, sending people to hell, and the whole
mainline christian church have it wrong. All these are strange condemnatory expressions for a
follower of Jesus to use, but they use them like everyday to simple believers who walk with Jesus.
