he called unto him his twelve disciple (had to include Judas, notice 12)

He (JESUS) gave them power against unclean spirits

the power of God to heal all manner of sickness

the verse you quoted doesn't apply here

Judas was never saved.

Amen! John 17:12 - While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. John 18:9 - that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke, "Of those whom You gave Me I have lost none." Jesus did not lose Judas. Judas was already lost. Judas was an unbelieving, unclean devil who would betray Jesus (John 6:64-71; 13:10-11).

Syllogism

1. All given by the Father to Jesus are kept.
2. Judas was not kept.
3. Judas was not given to Jesus by the Father

Or, this way.

1. None of those given to Jesus by the Father will be lost by Jesus.
2. Judas is lost.
3. Judas was not given to Jesus by the Father.

Amen. Judas chose to betray Jesus, knowing all.
The church has been split whether he knew God, born again or not throughout church history.

Peter had a similar choice, denying Jesus, but he wept and knew in his confusion Jesus would forgive him.
Judas did not repent or come back and ask for forgiveness.

The jews were going to kill Jesus no matter what. Judas helped the process along.
The true betrayal was the rejection of Jesus and His ministry for rebellion against Rome.

Such betrayals happen all the time in fellowships, but we are called to love and bless, knowing the
hearts of many will lead them astray.

There is a big difference between "son of perdition/unbelieving, unclean devil/betrayed Jesus" and "get behind me Satan" in this isolated situation when Peter unwittingly, was speaking for Satan. Jesus had just revealed to His disciples the plan that He was to go to Jerusalem to suffer, die, and be raised to life again on the third day (Matthew 16:21; Mark 8:31) contrary to their expectations. The disciples were not prepared for this new revelation and though Peter understood His words, he could not reconcile his view of the conquering Messiah with the suffering and death that Jesus spoke of. So Peter “began to rebuke Him” for having such a fatalistic mindset. This was only temporary, but Judas' betrayal was permanent.

Further, I think Jesus was speaking DIRECTLY to satan, and NOT Peter. Satan very well could have been standing right next to Peter, whispering evil in his ears. Jesus may have been able to see him doing this.

I do NOT believe satan was in Peter. That was the distinction between the two.

As for the difference. It is not very difficult to know one is a title given by God, to a man indwelt and controlled by satan, and the other is a. Harsh word which made its point. Which people do al, the time, HUGE DIFFERENCE!

In Matthew 10:1, we see that Jesus gave His 12 disciples power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. This would include Judas Iscariot, yet Jesus referred to Judas Iscariot as an unbelieving, unclean devil who would betray Him. (John 6:64-71; 13:10-11). Apparently, Judas believed that Jesus' name has the power to cast out demons, but did not truly believe in His name and become a child of God (John 1:12), but instead was the son of perdition (John 17:12).

If Judas wasn't saved at one point, there is no reason to believe the rest of the 11 was either.

Judas didn't start out being a thief................he fell to that............

The dude was a thief from day one, is a habitual sinner living in sin saved?

He was called an unbeliever, is an unbeliever saved?

He followed jesus because he wanted to be part of the kingdom with messiah ruling, not because he thought he needed saved. As soon as he understood jesus was not going to do what he thought, he ran, and turned jesus in for a few bucks. Many walked with jesus and did many things, it does not mean they all were saved!

Eternal life, is not something abstract and separable from the abiding presence of Christ.

Eternal life is eternal life

If it can be lost, ITS NOT ETERNAL now is it?

Your making it a religious term which can be thrown around like a ball, tossed to and fro.

It means one has passed from death to life, and that life is eternal

John said we can KNOW we have it, and it is this KNOWLEDGE that gives us power to continue to believe. We do not continue to believe to earn it, gods gift empowers our ability to keep th faith especially in hard times.

Once again, you give descriptive passages (they describe those who have eternal life) not prescriptive (things needed to earn eternal life)

Eternal life is a gift, not something you can earn by doing good works. And yes, trying hard to stay in belief to maintain salvation would be a work of righteousness which you are doing

Paul said we are not saved by those works.
