Because of these awesome 80's skits from SCTV (Second City Television - a comedy show like saturday night live)Why do you call it 'The Great White North"?
We call NZ, "The land of the long white cloud" because that's what the natives called it when they living here, the native word is "Aotearoa".

I’m in Windsor, as pretty much as south as you can get in Ontario. Detroit is north to us. Still cold.

I know there are some communities with old-fashioned foot-delivery mail carriers... mine isn't one of them. We have a central post office, so instead of the mailman freezing to death bringing the mail, we have dozens of residents freezing to death going to retreive their mail. Gotta love progress! On Wednesday, January 30th, we had an arctic blast hit the US with windchills as low as -60 degrees in the northern states and where I live in Missouri, that morning when I got to work, the temperature was -6 degrees with a wind chill of -23 degrees. When I left work that afternoon, it had only warmed up to +4 degrees. There was some fake news that said mail delivery was suspended that day for most of Missouri, but we still delivered the mail that day. It was not a good day to be a mailman. Not sure I could survive winter in Canada.![]()
We're just awake enough to share our weather generously with y'all. And all this time I thought that people north of the 49th parallel took a cue from the grizzlies and hibernated all winter.
