I want to learn to cook. I wish I had asked my mom to show me more while she was still alive. I can grill some stuff and and some other basic stuff, but I am generally clueless.

I did have fun getting those meal kits delivered for a bit but it didn’t really teach me as much as I was hoping. All of the ingredients came in the kit and were measured out perfectly.

Where should someone self teaching start for cooking? I was toying with a knife skills class if I can join one for cheap. Or a good you tube channel?

My friend, have I got a solution for you! This is what I use: https://www.allrecipes.com/
Just follow the instructions and you've got yourself a stew (or whatever your cooking)!
Yay food!

There's a lot of good cooking videos on youtube. I don't know of any channel that would be all around good though. I mean most of them are based around a certain type of diet like keto, vegan, dairy-free, etc.. I just search for the dish i want to make and then look for a video I like.

Thanks. I will look for that. I am doing keto I particular and need to cook to be successful at it anyway. Packaged food is easy but I need to stop eating garbage.

What's Keto?

Keto is a high fat, very low carb diet. The intent to switch your body from burning carbs for fuel to burning fat, which is a metabolic state called ketosis.

Ah. I see. Makes sense. Is it working?

Sort of. I have “cheated” a few times so I have to get back in. I just checked a blood meter and it looks like I’m in the low range of ketosis.

It takes awhile to adapt, and that process usually kind of sucks. Once I’m in, I have more energy, sleep better, less hungry and all that. It helps a ton with regulating blood sugar. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about two years ago.

Oh no! Diabetes! That sucks!
What kinds of high fat stuff do you have to eat? (I'm picturing you cutting the fat off a steak and eating it and throwing away the steak, over your shoulder for some reason hahaha)

Lol Nah, Injust usually shoot for 70-75% fat on my macros. 20-25% protein; and 0-5% carbs.

I eat a lot of bacon , steaks; and 80-20 burgers. There are also other good fat sources like nuts, olives, butter. I drink some MCT oil in the morning.

I love cheese, but I think I am allergic. I get inflammation like crazy when I eat it, but it’s tasty.

I'm not to sure a woman would have a problem with a man who likes to cook. Sounds great!
It doesn't work. I like to cook but I'm still single. :p

Now if you had your own cooking show that would give you some exposure and maybe your future wife could be watching one day and write to the show asking about you and the rest is history!
Easy peasy :)

Agreed. I am noticing there are many different personalities when it comes to men. This should be an exciting journey...
I think if my brain changed all at once it would have broke lol. God is perfect in his timing. I Can't private message either. I tried but it said I had to pay!

I grew up on The Simpsons. Not a fan eh?
I often find it pretty interesting to learn more about people in general. But then again such things are an interest for me in general. I've always been a people watcher.

Maybe that's what happened to my brain =D

Yeah all new members have to subscribe to initiate PM's, including in the chat rooms. But if you get PMed first you can respond normally even without subscribing.

I grew up around that time too, but it never caught my attention. As a kid I watched most prime time shows, the older I get the more picky I get. Now I rarely find a show worth watching. It's been years since a new show looked any good to me.

Oh and that keto diet is not the safest from what I hear. So I'd look into the risks before attempting, if you're leaning that way.

Private messaging is a subscriber feature although it is a relatively recent change so users who have been around awhile are grandfathered under the old policy. If someone initiates a PM with you you will be able to respond to that message.

The subscription fees help to support the costs of running this site but more importantly it has really cut down on abuse of the PM system by a huge amount.

I wonder if you might find reading something like “For Men Only” and “For Women Only” helpful. They’re both books explaining some of the differences between men and women and the way their brains work.

Someone in a support group I go to recommend reading “For Men Only”, which is about women. I ended up reading about half of “For Women Only” as well. As a guy, it was helpful to see how despite being not very traditional a lot of my concerns/insecurities were pretty normal for men.

Most of my interests early on were nerd things like sci fi, video games, etc. I guess I was always drawn to music and drawing and those sorts of things, too. I did play a lot of sports with friends growing up but never in a team.

I didn’t realize how much I enjoy being competitive until later on when someone pointed it out to me. I got into sports more after that. Part enjoying it as entertainment and part motivation for getting out and having fun or getting more exercise. Partially to burn off all the pizza I shoved in my face on Sunday watching the NFL.
Both books should be here this week. Thanks for the suggestion!

It's all I watched as a kid. Love the bright colors.

Don't think I'll attempt the diet. I love foods of all kind too much!
