Working from salvation? Working through sanctification? Working towards hope?
Interesting wording.
All 3 are correct...

We are saved and then we do our works as God intends us to.
Ephesians 2:10

We are forever working towards our sanctification.
2 Timothy 2:21
Hebrews 10:14

We are working toward what we hope in....heaven.
Romans 8:24-25

Prevention of birth is premature murder, and it makes no difference whether it is a life already born that one snatches away or a life that is coming to birth.

Tertullian

Every soul, then, by reason of its birth, has its nature in Adam until it is born again in Christ; moreover, it is unclean all the while that it remains without this regeneration; and because unclean, it is actively sinful, and suffuses even the flesh (by reason of their conjunction) with its own shame.

Tertullian

NOTICE: He understood FRUIT, and knew at we grew older, it would Mature, but SALVATION was THERE IN THE BEGINNING and COMPLETE. The Process is called SANCTIFICATION, as we STRIVE to conform our bodies to Match our Human Spirit which is ALREADY IN CHRIST.

23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.

For it is really better for us not to know a thing, because [God] has not revealed it to us, than to know it according to man’s wisdom, because he has been bold enough to assume it.

NOW I must ask a Question. ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE NOT USING THE CATHOLIC DEFINITION OF GNOSTIC, INSTEAD THE PROTESTANT DEFINITION? The reason I ask, is I was invited to go to Church with a Catholic Friend, when he promised they do not talk about other religions in negative tones. Well THEY DID BIG TIME. In his Sermon he called Martin Luther a HERETIC and a Minister of SATAN, and I was a Lutheran back then. As my buddy kept getting lower and lower in the pew.

They have called anyone who Left their Church, all kinds of names. They called them Back Sliders, Men like Hymenaeus and Alexander, Heretics, False Christians, Doing the Devils Work, and even Gnostic's. SO MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT USING THE CATHOLIC DEFINITION.

I'm not all that familiar with church history so I googled. :)

This is the 32nd chapter of the 1st Epistle to the Corinthians that Clement wrote to them.

Chapter 32. We are Justified Not by Our Own Works, But by Faith.
Whosoever will candidly consider each particular, will recognise the greatness of the gifts which were given by him. For from him have sprung the priests and all the Levites who minister at the altar of God. From him also [was descended] our Lord Jesus Christ according to the flesh. Romans 9:5 From him [arose] kings, princes, and rulers of the race of Judah. Nor are his other tribes in small glory, inasmuch as God had promised, Your seed shall be as the stars of heaven. All these, therefore, were highly honoured, and made great, not for their own sake, or for their own works, or for the righteousness which they wrought, but through the operation of His will. And we, too, being called by His will in Christ Jesus, are not justified by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom, or understanding, or godliness, or works which we have wrought in holiness of heart; but by that faith through which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

and the 33rd:

Chapter 33. But Let Us Not Give Up the Practice of Good Works and Love. God Himself is an Example to Us of Good Works.
What shall we do, then, brethren? Shall we become slothful in well-doing, and cease from the practice of love? God forbid that any such course should be followed by us! But rather let us hasten with all energy and readiness of mind to perform every good work. For the Creator and Lord of all Himself rejoices in His works. For by His infinitely great power He established the heavens, and by His incomprehensible wisdom He adorned them. He also divided the earth from the water which surrounds it, and fixed it upon the immovable foundation of His own will. The animals also which are upon it He commanded by His own word into existence. So likewise, when He had formed the sea, and the living creatures which are in it, He enclosed them [within their proper bounds] by His own power. Above all, with His holy and undefiled hands He formed man, the most excellent [of His creatures], and truly great through the understanding given him — the express likeness of His own image. For thus says God: Let us make man in our image, and after our likeness. So God made man; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:26-27 Having thus finished all these things, He approved them, and blessed them, and said, Increase and multiply. Genesis 1:28 We see, then, how all righteous men have been adorned with good works, and how the Lord Himself, adorning Himself with His works, rejoiced. Having therefore such an example, let us without delay accede to His will, and let us work the work of righteousness with our whole strength.

continued:

To read the whole of the letter, Clement writes about the state of the hearts of the church men and women, that have allowed strife and envy to enter. Thus the problems rise.

His points he makes in my words....now that God has justified you (rendered innocent by faith in His blood) practice virtue. Since God works good to men, be like Him.

The answer to the hearts of men that Clement teaches is repentance. A repentant heart will need no instruction on what to do....but is changed to want the will of God. A process of life by the work of Holy Spirit, that enables to practice the presence of God or being mindful that we are in union with the Lord on a daily basis.

We're not supposed to believe what's easy D,
we're supposed to believe the truth.
Wow we are not supposed to believe what is easy.

Is it easy to believe in a man who came to earth?
Proclaimed to be the saviour of all who believe in him.
A man who died on the cross, in the flesh and rose again and went back to heaven.

The same man who said "The only work the Father requires is to to believe in the one who he sent"

Jesus never asked for more than that, if you can quote a Bible verse that Jesus said "You must do works to maintain your salvation" then please do so.

I cannot recall any time he said this.

Yet I do know he said "If you love me you will do"

And of course we will do, because we love.

Works to maintain salvation or earn salvation bind a person in chains.
There is no freedom but a burden.
A millstone round the neck.

So it is easy if we understand who we are in Jesus.
If we believe we are saved by our faith that leads to good works.
It's easy when we fail we can come before God and fess up.

Did Jesus make it hard to be saved?
I don't think so, but he did make it clear that our walk would be hard.

Hi VCO, "keep preaching the word in season and out." Sanctification is both an on going work of the Holy Spirit to transform the true believer into the very image of Jesus Christ and also God Himself will sanctify the true believer, the "whole body, soul and spirit" completely. 2Cor3:18

VCO I know you understand this but there are false teachers like "Fran" who are teaching a false gospel of grace plus works. For those who my read this post we are saved by Gods grace through faith, "not by works"

And as most people here are aware "GodsGrace101 aka Fran", was banned and returned here illegally. She has been deceiving you and I and this wonderful conservative Christian forum against all forum rules for people who have been banned. VCO as you correctly stated, "almost no one listens to her" but once more someone should put her "on report" for returning after being banned.

2Corinthians 3:18: Believers sanctification
18) "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, 'are being transformed into the same image' from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."

1 Thessalonians 5:23: Christians are sanctified by God.
23) "Now may 'the God of peace himself sanctify you completely', and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

The sheep were on His right
The goats were on His left
Mathew 25:33

The sheep were the ones who did as Jesus taught
Mathew 25:38-40

The goats were the ones who did not do as Jesus taught
Mathew 25:45-46

Be a sheep. Do as Jesus taught.

DO YOU KNOW, THAT YOU LISTEN TO MY POSTS WITH ALMOST NO EARS ON?

Revelation 3:6 (HCSB)
6 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.

And I am getting very Tired of repeating myself.

SALVATION TOOK PLACE THE MOMENT THE HOLY SPIRIT ENTERED YOUR BODY AND GAVE YOU THE FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST.

NOW you want to JUMP to the Separation of Sheep from Goats, that HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SALVATION of your Human Spirit.

EVERYTHING IN LIFE AFTER YOU ARE SAVED (which has to do with the Salvation of your Human Spirit) HAS TO DO WITH
SANCTIFICATION 1546807644856.jpeg 🡴 PERIOD

Have you not read this and let it SINK IN ?

John 3:6-7 (HCSB)
6 Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Do not be amazed that I told you that you must be born again.

Everything after that HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SALVATION. The REWARD from Heaven only has to do with SANCTIFICATION and IF HE THINKS IT IS WORTHY OF REWARD. NEVER IS A FREE GIFT FROM GOD EVEN CONSIDERED SOMETHING YOU MUST DO EARN EARN SALVATION. IT IS CROWNS WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (HCSB)
8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—
9 not from works, so that no one can boast.

HE MEANS ALL OF THAT !

HERE IS THE PROOF:

1 Corinthians 3:12-15 (ESV)
12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw—
13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.
14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward.
15 If anyone’s work is burned up {wrong motives}, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

SALVATION IS NOT A REWARD, IT IS PURELY A FREE GIFT. Once you have that FREE GIFT in your Human Spirit, YOU WILL BE ETERNALLY SAVED. ONLY THOSE who are Not Born Again, will be LOST. Your OBEDIENCE that is Part of your LOVE, and YOU WILL WANT TO SERVE HIM.

Do not be like this:

I had posted part of this on a different page. And I also listed the source...which no one here seems to do. No matter.

We are saved by faith alone.
We continue in sanctification and good works/deeds.

So true, my brother!

There is but one condition of eternal salvation, believing in Christ. The moment one believes he has eternal life. Nothing can reverse that, since eternal life is eternal. Therefore, even if a believer fails to persevere or fails to do works, everlasting life remains.

Saving faith is the passive acceptance of God's promise to the believer. Those who who place conditions on eternal salvation such as perseverance or good works, replace grace with human effort, in defiance of Ephesians 2:9 "not of works, lest anyone should boast."

Let's say Phil and Bill are both believers. Phil perseveres and goes to heaven, Bill doesn't and goes to hell. This would give Phil grounds for boasting. He could legitimately say that he got to heaven because he persevered in good works.

WHY do those who add works to salvation completely ignore Romans 4:4-5 "Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness."

Those who claim believers will do good works if they are saved, as proof they are truly saved, ignore all of the New Testament calls for justified believers to persevere in good works. Such calls would be unnecessary if obedience was guaranteed! The justified believer would be unable to disobey God.

Ignored also is 1 Corinthians where Paul confronts believers who are still "babes" in Christ FIVE YEARS after their conversion. They weren't producing any good works at all. Their works were all CARNAL and not spiritual. And some believers had already died without ever advancing to spiritual maturity (1 Corinthians 11:30) and yet Paul still referred to them as believers!

Saving faith is the conviction that Jesus is telling the truth when He guarantees, "He who hears my word and believes in Him who sent me has everlasting life, and shall NOT come into judgment, but has passed from death to life" (John 5:24).

Jesus paid the full and complete price for everyone's sins on the cross. There is no price whatsoever left to be paid. - be it baptism, good works, perseverance, etc. There is just a promise to be believed. Once the promise is believed, the free gift is received. - Robert N. Wilkin
Exactly......it is all Christ or it is false!

We're not supposed to believe what's easy D,
we're supposed to believe the truth.

I agree with your O.P.
100%

Where we part is when you say that we have to do nothing to MAINTAIN our salvation.
This is wrong.

So what is the truth?
Pontius Pilot asked Jesus....and he was staring right at the truth.

So, I'd say we should listen to what Jesus taught...not what some modern day preachers teach.

Here's what Jesus preached:

Matthew 6:10
Ephesians 5:15-20
Hebrews 10:46
Mathew 7:21

Those who do the will of the Father are the ones who will go to heaven.
To do the will of the Father requires our cooperation.
Jesus went to the cross for us...
WE are required to do something too....The will of God, which is to obey Him.
Another dosie doe Fran which is why you continually MISS the mark....Jesus was born, lived and DIED under the OLD Covenant which RATIFIED THE NEW.....the words he had to speak that HIS DISCIPLES COULD NOT BEAR<--Found in the words of PAUL WHICH ARE THE WORDS OF JESUS

Therefore we CONCLUDE that a MAN IS JUSTIFIED BY FAITH WITHOUT THE WORKS/DEEDS OF THE LAW.....

You are continually CONFLATING COVENANTS and if you do not OPEN YOUR EYES to the truth FRAN it will result in a very bad day in the future for you.

And make no mistake.....If I did not really like you I would have given up on you along time ago! TRUST JESUS FRAN.....100% do not make the mistake of interjecting yourself into the equation!

Those who preach the false gospel of having to do nothing to maintain salvation after we are born again are teaching a religion that is not Christianity. Having nothing to do after our salvation is a gospel of easy believism. Some here make being a Christian sound very easy because it sounds so good. Churches are beginning to do this too because it draws in crowds.

But it's not what Jesus said. And, as you requested, here is what Jesus said.
Does this sound easy to you?

Jesus said:
Mathew 16:24-25

Discipleship Is Costly

24Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 25“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

Then you said this in your post:
"The only work the Father requires is to to believe in the one who he sent"

This is from John 6:29...
The ONLY time in scripture where Jesus said this.
And do you know why? Because BELIEVE means something when it was said back then.
I'm rather tired of repeating what it means, so you could just look it up.

I've asked @dcontroversal to please explain it to everyone here and prove me wrong...but he has not done this. Why? Because if he does, he'll have to agree with me.

Just quick: Believe means TO DO. It doesn't mean to believe in some modern way and then sit around and do nothing.

You say you do out of love. Nice. The fact is that you're required TO DO, just as Jesus said.

You want scripture? Have you not read Mathew?

Mathew 4:4
Mathew 5:3-10
Mathew 5:13
Mathew 5:14
Mathew 5:16
Mathew 5:17
Mathew 5:19
Mathew 5:20
Mathew 5:22
Mathew 5:24
Mathew 5:27
Mathew 5:32
Mathew 5:39
Mathew 5:40
Mathew 5:41
Mathew 5:44
Mathew 5:48

I mean, really, must I go on? I could fill up two pages.
ALL Jesus did was to leave us instructions on HOW to live our lives...
and yet we want to say that all we need to do is to believe in Him (however people understand that nowadays) and that's ALL we have to do, but of course we do more because we love Him.

Well, I do think it's time to own up to our faith and say that we are required to obey God,,,
God does not make suggestions...

God commands.
If we're born again and follow in His ways, we REMAIN saved.
If we do not follow Him and are not a disciple of His...we return to being unsaved.

We are saved by faith.
We are kept saved by our behavior and obedience to God.

First of all, stop telling me I'm going to hell.
Second of all, please stop telling me I conflate the covenants since I happen to be very well versed in the covenants and not only two of them.

You can believe what you want to believe D, I would never say you're lost -- which you've done to me many times. Only GOD knows who is saved and who is not. WE cannot know this.

I go by what Jesus taught....
not by what preachers teach.
I TRULY believef in the bible...

Because D,
You insist on misunderstanding James and no amount of what I tell you will make any difference.
What could be clearer than this:

James 2:14 A rhetorical question:
"What use is it, my brethren, if a man says he has faith, but he has no works? Can that faith save him?"

No. It cannot save him. Jesus confirmed this in Mathew 25:41-43
Jesus is saying what James is saying: Those who work as their faith teaches them will be the sheep and the saved ones. Those who clothe and feed and visit....NOT those who do not.

James 2:15-16
It's necessary for us to clothe and feed the needy --- not just say "God bless you, go in peace".
What good would it do for them? NONE.

James 2:17
"Faith, if it has no works, is dead."

Again, James repeats what Jesus taught in Mathew 25.

James 2:20
"Faith without works is foolish."

James 2:24
"You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone."

The "faith alone" gospel is the false gospel.

The way you understand James, and how it is being taught these days, is not the way James is writing it.

Show where, exactly, does it say that James is writing about showing our faith to man?
James was with Jesus for years and is interested in getting us to heaven...NOT at all interested in showing our faith to man...

He is not writing anything as you understand it.
If you care to, please exegete verse by verse....
as I have done more than once.
I am not misunderstanding James.....He is not teacing a works justifies before God salvation......and the context is MEN BEING ABLE TO SEE THE INVISIBLE FAITH THAT JUSTIFIES A MAN BEFORE GOD, and PAUL TELLS US THAT.IT IS FAITH THAT JUSTIFIES A MAN BEFORE GOD without the WORKS/DEEDS of the law.

Oh. And remember to be thankful for me...
I keep your thread going when it's winding down!!

False, false and false...especially the last line......

NO!
Would you care to go through it verse by verse?
I'm willing if you are.
