Is a Christian church’s preaching a tithe (as opposed to freewill offering) taking Scripture out of context?

Was tithing done away with under the new covenant? Was it only ever about livestock and plants and not money? Thanks

Hello and welcome to CC.
You will run into contradictory views on this... and almost every other topic. However, Paul makes it clear in his letter to the Galatians that Christians are not under the Mosaic Law, which includes tithing. Tithes were payable in produce. Money could be used in lieu, at a penalty of 20%.
As Christians we are to follow New Testament instructions for giving: as we decide in out hearts, to meet needs and support ministry, according to our resources, regularly, and sometimes sacrificially.

How do I delete this thread? Thanks 🙂
I like the question. Don't delete it. Glad you haven't figured how yet.

Giving with a cheerful heart and as one prospers. Lots of churches with over paid staff. Of course they want to push a minimun as law. Guarantees a higher contribution. Its not part of New Covenant.
This don't sit well with the millionaire preachers. They steal from the poor.
Catholic cathedrals have been built by false teaching related to money and payments for sin.

Yes, they are taking Scripture out of context and can be rightly called false prophets.
