I like hugging my nephew.....im not sure how much I do it but I do lol I don't really hug anyone else or want to most of the time I don't like that kind of stuff for the most part and I'm kind of a jerk at times I don't want people in my personal space, CATS ARE DUMB FOR THIS VERY REASON, not only that but I was never a huge affectionate person and wasn't really shown that as a child. I didn't want to hug my dad cuz I hated him, in a weird sort of way, and I didn't want to hug my mom cuz I felt it was just awkward. I did cuddle a lot though especially in my sleep I liked sleeping next to my mom. Oh and my mom making me and my brother hug and kiss each other on the cheek after a fight didn't help either. I'll hug kids all day long though kids are great cx. If we're talking about girls I used to hug tons of girls but not any more for reasons I just don't wanna be clung onto a bunch of different women. Not only that but I'm not exactly innocent when it comes to females and such so my mind can go to all kinds of places POSSIBLY rather not take that chance. BUT I like hugs ig or maybe I like cuddling, if I had a significant other I'd enjoy hugging her cuz I mean......idk I just would? Cuddling part is only for my wife I don't want to get that close to a female while laying down or anything that's suicide. Also boobs are a thing (can I say that?) and like I said I'm not innocent sadly so I even have to be careful with normal hugs I tend to kind of just do the side hug thing but if you're not family in some way, shape, or form then nah I'm not going to hug you if you're a girl around my age unless I like you then you might get one maybe, just don't get offended if it seems like I'm trying to touch you as little as possible because although I am, it's because you're cute  . If I didn't like you I probably would try to associate with you as little as possible so you don't get the wrong idea and so I don't look like a thot, the fact that I'm trying to be friends with you probably shows I have some kind of interest, maybe not romantic but still. Was this too long?
No, not too long I am the same way didn't care for my father much...never been brought up to hug..been made to kiss some relatives I didn't even know much..I didn't like that... cuddling is cool as long it's with a partner that I am serious about...What you wrote is just like I would have written for myself..so I think I will copy/paste it for another time/forum Thanks...:D Just kidding Bro that yours and understandable.

Well Mel, I see you woke this thread up from early October. What are we supposed to read in that. Are you in need of a hug? I wish I could give you one in person. You'll have to settle on a virtual one.

This is a good topic. Something one of my therapists mentioned was how important human touch can be. At the time she was recommending getting massages or something. I get hugs when I attend some of my support groups. Some of my friends or family will also hug.

I wasn’t a hugger for the longest time, and still feel awkward initiating, especially with women. But I do like to receive them. I can see the mental health benefits of getting those hugs now. My mom wasn’t much of a hugger. And my dad was out of the picture pretty early in life. I don’t think my mom ever touched me except to spank, or grab me by the neck or slap me or something. I didn’t like to be touched for the longest time but didn’t understand why.

This makes me sad, but glad that you are welcome to hugs now.

We grew up being “that family” who liked to give and receive hugs and kisses. It’s part of our culture as well.

I'm a great hugger, especially if I see that special light
in someone's eye or see a terrible loneness and need -
Hub and I hug and kiss and kibitz daily,
we are very Blessed and Thankful...

I give and receive hugs more than 5 times a month but reserve to do this exclusively with my wife. On rare occasions with my families members as well. I do say good morning at work to certain peeps and when asked how I am doing I say "I'm dealing with it". I picked up this phrase when I was in the Army as it seems that there is always something that must be dealt with, besides it sounds funny. If I'm in a particular bad mood I occasional say that "I'm living the dream". I picked up that phrase from Mailmandan, as that is what he says at work. He's not a bad guy but often misunderstood. The same goes for myself as well. I might do some hugging with my honey later this afternoon. She's been wonderful so far, and it's more than I hoped for.

I regularly hug my parents, as well as my grandparents, nieces and nephews, sisters, and close friends of both genders.

Thanks for this thoughtful and insightful poll.
