What should readers conclude when two posters claim they got their position from God, yet they disagree?
1) One of the posters is right and the other is wrong? Which one?
2) Both of the posters are right? How can that be?
3) Both of the posters are wrong? Entirely possible.

I tend to go with number three.
But not having to do with what was said, but the fact that they said it.
If one claims to speak for God they are declaring themselves to be a prophet.
You better be 100 percent sure of what you are saying if you go there.

Don't you think that often is the case that there is some truth within most posts, or opinions, even if we don't agree with all of what anyone says, (with exception of Him, of couse)? I think this is a valid question, you bring forward, maybe because I have asked it before, quite often. I am an agreeable sort, teetering on the fence of peace and on the fence of too much of an open mind. I think when weighing and discerning balance plays an important role. With that said, we must always stand in His truth, but best make sure we are. I have often thought i was so spot on with regards to what He wants or what He is teaching me. But thanks be to Him, I realized I was mistaken. So we keep going back to the drawing board which is Him.

My sister says, pssst, you are being a ppl pleaser, and I say, hmmmm, you know there is truth in your perception, Sis, so I receive it. I will seek more to please Him than others. However, lol, I like to look at it differently. We are suppose to be peaceful and tender hearted, humble and teachable, but also alert, and bold in His truth, wise and discerning, resolute in His convictions and teachings. So I believe, thus far, lol, that when discerning right and wrong, we serve ourselves and others when we acknowledge the wrong, but focus on the right, seeing all oportunity to find edifying take aways, even in opposing views. Sometimes though, there is zero middle ground, sometimes as you said, all sides miss the mark. But if many sound minded, God fearing, ppl are wrong, we have to be open to our perceptions and opinions lacking spot on accuracy as well

One thing is he says their must be hereisies amoungst us . Why must and what are heresies ?

The he says there will be damnable heresies . Which ones?

One that speaks the word of God, is a prophet .Those who add to the book of prophecy.... false prophets. Those who error in interpreting
are offering their heresy or opinion. Opinions are not damnable, only when they clearly deny the grace of God ….doing despite to it as it is written, destroying the faith The word it representing the faith of God's working labor of love

That would all depend.

Did they both claim to get a message from God burnt into a piece of toast... right below a silhouette of the virgin Mary?


If they just have a different interpretation of scripture, then it's no great conundrum.

Playing the "God told me card" in a discussion on bible topics is usually the last gasp sign of desperation - much along the lines of "we'll see" when applied to futurist eschatologies or arguments with an atheist about the existence of God.

Wait, they START OFF with "God told me directly." We're way past seeing that used as a desperation tactic anymore. :)

As to the OP it's impossible to choose any option as there is no example of a situation and a text to look at. Sounds like a Brian McLaren or Rob Bell construct to me.

That happens every time 2 people disagree about a Bible interpretation, doesn't it?

While I don't disagree with what you've written, you've assumed two things: that one of the two mentioned in the OP actually speaks for God and the other is adding to Scripture. The OP mentioned neither. As you are so fond of mentioning, why go above what is written?

No, not from my perspective.
If two people share their opinion, that is fine.
But when both claim their opinion is the word of God, or that God gave them the understanding above all else,
then we have a problem. They can't both be right. From my view they are both wrong in their approach.

I agree, of course.
But how do we handle that truth when we are discussing it with others?
Even if it is true, it seems that we start a conflict by claiming our opinion is "God-breathed".

Even if it is true, it seems that we start a conflict by claiming our opinion is "God-breathed".
While the Lord may reveal a truth to us (found in His word), our expression of that truth must be backed with scripture (for teaching). This is how cults are started, blind following. Even so, false doctrines being reached without any scriptural consensus (verses).

All is well when you're fellowshipping with God and He leads you to a verse and teaches you something. Or you're reading scripture and something is highlighted to you, and understanding is given.

Your argument isn't that "God told me", it is, "What do you see when reading these verses?" Hopefully then, in reading the truth, may God open their eyes with understanding. You don't need to preface your teaching with divine revelation so as to authenticate what you're sharing. Scripture itself is authoritative. Let the Lord work in them understanding as they read the verses you provide.

My cousin said something profound today, she said, I believe the truth is weaved. I like it even if the verb tense seems off. I think that verb tense is more appropriate for some reason

See if any of them match up with scripture........the one that does is the true one. :)
