(Part II next)
Since you are so informed about doctrine tell us what the Doctrine of Christ says!!
From 212 to 500 several creeds (a synonym of doctrine) were created to define what a Christian must believe by the early elders. Keep in mind that almost all churches have a statement of doctrine explaining their set of beliefs. They also define anything contrary is heresy and any issue outside of it is to agree to disagree! They were created because of the many diverse issues concerning Christianity. There were many Biblical issues and heretical issues being discussed and still discussed today. Heresies never seem to fade away. Creeds expose them. This started in the early church and is seen today in all of the different gospel preaching denominations.
If you try to say they are wrong provide the scriptures backing it up. A blanket dismissal because they were written by men is foolish. Men guided by God wrote the Bible. Men reading and understanding the scripture write Biblical doctrinal statements to aid understanding of the scripture. This was essential before the printing press! Men today create many different books, pamphlets, and Sunday School study guides as aids in understanding scripture.
Get your mind off of 21st century methods of creating Bibles and look at the early elders creating short statements about what the Bible stated so using them they could spread the gospel message. Refute them Biblically or stop ranting about what the early elders created.
Every time you say God told you I reject what you say. There is a deceiving entity that does this.
How about this scripture. Explain how they will be snatched from the hand of God!!
John 10 NIV. No one can snatch them out of My hand
22 Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. 24 The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
The way we are saved is by grace through faith in Jesus. Many people want to believe works saves them. You seem to be adding more to it. Why?There are no Scriptures that teach God takes back His Gift. But there are many Scriptures which teach that humans can reject His Gift, even after God freely gave it to them. What? Do you think if a person recieves a free gift they can't choose to discard that gift? Just because God gives a person a free gift does not mean a person can't reject it. We even have Parables that teach a person can receive that free gift then LATER rejects it for this reason or that reason.
God will never take back a gift that he gives. That does not mean a person can't reject that gift from God, either before they receive it, or even after they have received it, then Later discard it.
All those who believe OSAS please answer. Or continue to NOT answer because it would reveal the error of your thinking.
IN 1980 Dave accepts Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord, he repents of his sins, and all his past sins are forgiven unto him. He is washed, a new man in Christ. He starts attending church every Sunday.
IN 1985 Dave became the Youth minister in his Church
IN 1990 Dave marries a Christian woman with two little girls
IN 1999 Dave Molests the two girls on a regular basis, Oh and he repents after each time.
Dave continues to molest the two girls, then He starts molesting the children in his youth program, after which he repents each time of those too.
IN 2018 Dave dies in a car accident. Never having ceased from molesting children.
Tell me, when Dave stands before God on Judgment Day, is he SAVED? Did he not repent after each time he molested a child?
If you answer "NO, Dave was never Truly Saved" Then answer me this Question which you will not answer I'm sure. If Dave were to have died in 1998, which for 18 years was a model Christian, living in the Will of God, and Loving Everyone, helping everyone, a perfect Christian. On Judgement Day would Dave be Judged as SAVED, if he died in 1998?
Do all you others see why they will not answer that question? If Dave would have died in 1989 BEFORE he started living a very wicked life, he would have been Judged as SAVED, a good soldier of Jesus Christ. Those who believe the false doctrine will claim "Dave was never Truly Saved" Which is just something they say to justify their own false belief in the false doctrine that they hold dearly too, and no matter what example you give, instead of them changing their belief, they will just say "Dave was never Truly Saved to begin with" Do not listen to them who are not persuaded by simple logic. If Dave would have died in 1989, He would most certainly be judged as SAVED, But when he turned away from doing the will of God, even though he continually repented of his wicked deeds, and never ceased from them, he will be judged as NOT SAVED on Judgment Day, because Dave freely chose who his master is. Is it not plainly and clearly written, your master is to whom you obey. Up until 1999 Daves master was God, but after 1999 when he started molesting children, his master became satan. God telling him to stop, satan telling him to continue just repent each time and your fine and telling him "Once your Saved, you are always saved, and you can't lose your salvation, just continue to repent". Up to 1999 he was a sheep Christian, After 1999 he was a goat Christian. Up to 1999 His name was written in the Book of Life. After 1999 his name was blotted out of the Book of Life.
OSAS is a lie from the pits of Hell. it is a doctrine satan came up with to make goat christians comfortable even though they continue to live in sin. Believing in Once Saved Always Saved is perfect for the backslider, they can continue to live in a backsliden condition and still be SAVED, still Heaven bound. How easy is that?
Broad and wide and easy is the path that leads to destruction, but narrow and difficult is the path that leads to everlasting life. Many and i say MANY are on that wide and easy path, all the while thinking they are on the narrow path. There will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth from the goat Christians, those who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, but continue to live in sin thinking nothing of it, just as long as you continue to repent of the same sin over and over and over and over and over and over again, you'll be fine, is their thinking. To Truly repent of a particular sin, you MUST 1) Repent of it, AND 2) Cease to do it again.
Dave in the above situation, repented each time he molested a child. Tell me, How sorry was he if he never ceased from doing it again? i will tell you the Truth any sin a person commits and repents of, knowing full well they will continue to do that sin, even though they repent of it, is NOT forgiven of it, until they Truly repent of it, and that is to repent and cease from doing it ever again.
i smoked cigarettes for many years, but not once did i ask God to forgive me during those many years, while i knew i was going to continue to smoke them. But once i quit smoking them for good, is when i bowed myself down to God and asked Him to forgive me, and i told Him, "i will never do it again"
If Dave in the Above situation would have TRULY Repented, he would have repented, asked the girls to forgive him, ask his wife to forgive him, turned himself in to authorities, pays for the crime that he has committed, and most importantly NEVER does it again, then Dave would be forgiven by God for his wicked deeds against his wife, children, and God.
Do you repent for the same sin over and over again? How sorry are you, if you continue to do the very thing you are repenting of?

I agree with the bible.
I just disagree with you.
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
This is pretty non-sensical if we aren't saved until after we die. You don't have to tell a dead person that they aren't saved by works.
Wouldn't it make more sense to say 'by grace are you saved through faith; and that not until you die and are judged".
But it doesn't say that. I don't think you will find the bible saying that anywhere. Because it isn't faith.
Faith doesn't say all the blessings of God are available to you once you die and are judged. Faith says that all the blessings of God are available NOW.
Matthew 21:9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
Save us when? Save us NOW. (That's what Hosanna means)
The question then is what is the Doctrine of Christ?
The Doctrine of Christ is summed up in this:
Love One Another.
Those who Love One Another, are abiding in the Doctrine of Christ.
Those who fail to Love One Another are NOT abiding in the Doctrine of Christ.
Hebrews 4:9 - So there remains a Sabbath-rest (sabbatismos) for the people of God. *Notice that the Greek word "sabbatismos" is used no where else in the Bible. Amazing that Sabbatarians would suggest that this is the word for "keeping the weekly Sabbath" when it is never used anywhere else, in spite of the many references to Jews keeping the weekly Sabbath in the New Testament! Here the Sabbath rest is the perpetual rest to be enjoyed uninterruptedly by believers in their fellowship with Jesus Christ, in contrast to keeping the weekly seventh day Sabbath under the Law.Wrong. Your understanding of the Greek word I transliterated as "sabbatismos" is absurd. It actually means "seventh day cessation". The Greek word occurs in Heb 4:9. I'm very sorry that you are so ready to make assumptions and condemn others at the drop of a hat.![]()
NO
It is not applicable to the concept of OSAS which the quote of Jesus supports!! I only use the Bible not quotes from New Age or anything like it. I listen to ministers of the word but as recommended by a minister that it needs to be verified by the Bible. I am 73 and been a deacon and elder in 3 Reformed theology churches, moved twice. I took several classes in theology as required by becoming an officer in the church. Being in the Reformed theology faith I also have investigated its opposite viewpoint Arminianism. Both views are Biblical. I'm not a novice in theology so refute explicitly what I missed from that quote of Jesus.
When you disagree with someone in person or online you need to approach the person for their reasons for their statements not make wild accusations. I am counseling you in this as an elder of a Reformed theology church.
Wrong. Your understanding of the Greek word I transliterated as "sabbatismos" is absurd. It actually means "seventh day cessation". The Greek word occurs in Heb 4:9. I'm very sorry that you are so ready to make assumptions and condemn others at the drop of a hat
i don't care what the elders said, what the 1611 bible said what it didn't say, i don't care about any of that stuff, i only care about what God told me
Being saved is a wonderful thing, beyond what our human minds can comprehend. But there is something even greater, It is being great in the kingdom of heaven.and since i know that He is both able and faithful i can trust that He will never lose me?
IOW i am eternally saved?
groovy
I'm a OSAS (really preservation of the saints person) and believe in "the rest of the story." That is, there are passages that describe believers, but are not prescriptive on how to attain eternal life. People conflate the two. Thus, there is evidence of conversion, and evidence of being deceived noted in Scripture.Being saved is a wonderful thing, beyond what our human minds can comprehend. But there is something even greater, It is being great in the kingdom of heaven.
You can't be a Sunday Christian, not making God part of your everyday living and be great in the Kingdom. Paul went to great lengths to explain that to us.
All these people on the soap box telling how great it is to ignore everything God tells us about living well and still be saved are not listening to all God has to tell them. Like Paul Harvey, the newscaster used to say "and now the rest of the story". The once saved always saved people need to tell the rest of the story.
Our God is a God of balance. We humans often see our world as one dimension. Like the new covenant God made, humans often get off balance with that, too. They sometimes feel that a fact they learn cancels out all other facts, and with God that isn't so.I'm a OSAS (really preservation of the saints person) and believe in "the rest of the story." For the record no one is telling you to ignore (nor others) everything God says -- you're coming to false conclusions and making that up.
Any person who denies evidence of conversion; 1 John, the sanctifying work of the believer; Hebrews 12:4; and the transformation of all believers; 2 Corinthians 3:18ff is deceived and does not understand the Gospel.
Our God is a God of balance. We humans often see our world as one dimension. Like the new covenant God made, humans often get off balance with that, too. They sometimes feel that a fact they learn cancels out all other facts, and with God that isn't so.
It is the truth that God is so above us in holiness we can't even consider becoming God like so our works make for our salvation. God looks at our faith for our salvation. That is the truth. It is also the truth that if we are so lacking in faith in what God tells us about how to live our life here that we become just disobedient to Him, then that faith we have isn't really faith and we can't be saved by that kind of faith. That is really work demanded of us to be saved, yet it is true at the very same moment that we are only saved by faith. Balance.
Perhaps the bottom line is the Holy Spirit within us that we receive in ways that are not of this world but are of God.
