Anyhoo, I don't think spanking works very well for all kids. Some learn from it, others rebel and just get worse in their behavior.

Well different people will have different ideas... If i had a child i would not bother spanking them past the age of 15 .. That might vary depending on my assessment of their maturity.. Some 15 year olds are mentally immature.. Some are as adults..
In my view it is futile to spank someone who is mature.. Spanking is for kids/ immature people.. If spanking has not worked when your kid was a kid then it sure will not have any effect on them when they are older teens and young adults..
But again let me add.. I don't think there is a 100% correct answer to this question.. I believe this should be a case of asking God for leading and going with what you are convinced is the right thing to do..
8 and 12. We haven’t spanked the oldest for the last couple years and now she has an attitude about why can her sister get punished quickly and she is grounded... I guess we didn’t stop for any reason just seemed to go with the age.
Well for one, she is older. Though grounding might work for both of them, instead of just giving the younger one a quick punishment.
That way, they get the same time and amount of punishment..
Yes that might work, just covering all options right now. Hate to change things up for her right now because spanking works very well. It’s is very rare that she needs punished

I can understand why a young child might need a gentle tap
on the hand, say for example they try to put their hands in the gas fire etc.
Once they reach an age where you can explain and they can understand,
then I too think all spanking should stop.
It should definately not be done on teens, that isn’t punishment,
that’s outright abuse and humiliation. Just imagine how it must feel,
you are growing up your body is changing, you want privacy and your
parents are still spanking you.
A year or so back there was a young man on here who I think was
older than 15. His parents still pulled down his trousers had wacked
him with a paddle. How distressing and humiliating that must have been.
That’s verging on sexual assault. He did post on here a few times asking
for advice and prayer.

It's easy for someone with zero or only one child to self-righteously say spanking should stop. But, spanking is beneficial, and sometimes necessary. If you need quick compliance of a young child, spanking will do it when nothing else will.
I believe most of these people who say spanking should be banned, they've spanked their child when nothing else seemed to be an option.
Once they reach an age where other punishments work, as you say, when they can understand, then spanking should stop. And, at some point, you need to just let a kid fall into trouble through his disobedience. For example, you might swat a young child to get him to the car, but you'd just let an older kid walk, or miss out, if he won't get into the car.

I think I stopped spanking my boys when they were 10 and 12. I just remember they did sometbhikng disobedient in the kitchen, and they started laughing. Then they asked me if they should bring me another wooden spoon to break over their rear ends. Then the older one, still laughing hysterically, pulled his pants down, and said, "Go for it mom!" I tried to spank him, but he had gotten me laughing. Then, I looked at their butts, and saw these rock hard gluts, and finally figured out why I was breaking spoons over them.They played hockey year round, and they were tough as nails.
After we all finished laughing I never spanked them again. But, they really were well behaved. The spanking on the lower end really establishes itself by the time they are 10.
PS. My daughter, the social worker, tells me spanking is against the law in Canada. You need not wonder why this next generation is so spoiled and entitled.

Every tyrant in Canada who moved to ban spanking either has no children or one child plus a nanny, and they spanked that one child a few times.
My mom raised 6 kids all by herself after our father passed... Yes, she was the most loving mother in the world, and yes - there were spankings... as I recall 3 of us (myself, older sister and youngest brother) were guilty of needing to be straightened out on occasion; and remarkably we've all turned out to be pretty decent human beings and loving parents ourselves...
Last age spanked varied for the three of us... Depended upon when the violation occurred that needed to be corrected...
OBTW, we'd have to give her our own belts (boys)... not recommended these days...
My brother got his last spanking around 12, I got mine around 14, and my sister was about 15-16...
