What happens after death?

Hello everyone,

Bear in mind, I'm new here so not sure where to post, hope this is the right one.

I'm just wondering what will happen after death, I've been quite nervous for a month now wondering what will happen after death?

I'm still young and got plenty years to come but still nervous about dying, the bit that makes me sad is, will I ever get to see my family again when we all die as I'm very close with them, I can't even be away with them for a day, never mind forever, I just really hope I will get to see my family again in heaven.

I just really hope heaven is real, just quite haven't got my faith yet. How can I calm myself down? How can I be sure that heaven exist?

This isn't really a "family" oriented topic. So not entirely fitting. But no worries, we were all new at some point.

Well, if your family is born again, and you are as well, then there's no reason to question seeing them again. If you, or they, are not then that's another story.
But keep in mind heaven is not the same as earth. The ties you hold close now will not have the same importance to you after death. So while your family may seem so important to you now, in heaven you will not view them the same.
Much like how I'm heaven there is no marriage, thus people married on earth will not still be married in heaven.

You say you haven't gotten your faith down yet and that's a somewhat vague term. It could mean you haven't made a choice to become a Christian or that you are a new Christian still learning.
But much of a Christians walk is based in faith. To trust heaven is real first requires trusting God is real, and who he says he is. If you can't put that trust in God there's no way you can have trust in what he says either.

As far as calming down that comes down to the things I've said and also with your personal ability to cope with stress. You may need to enhance or learn new coping mechanisms and habits.

Dear lewisx, not all the christian confessions have exactly the same understanding of the eternal life. I can give you a little background about the roman catholic point of view, based on bible passages.

After death, the human body is not lost forever, but is to find the last destination in God ("resurrection of the body", Rom 8,11). God alone knows the "how". We can trust that nothing was created in vain. And everything that God has created should also be completed in him. At the end of history as we know it - the Bible speaks figuratively of the "Last Day" or "Judgment Day" (for example Jn 6:39) - it becomes obvious to all. Resurrection of the body therfore means that you will see your family members again and you will take them in your arms again! As Christians, we can hope that everyone goes to heaven. "The church prays that no one is lost." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1058) God wants all people to be saved (1 Timothy 2: 4). That is what Jesus Christ lived for and for that he died on the cross. As the risen Lord, he has preceded us in the glory of God, where he "prepares a place for us" (Jn 14: 3). In him, we are also connected with those people who have already preceded us to eternity. Because: "Whether we live or whether we die, we belong to the Lord" (Romans 14: 8).

I hope that this gives you a little confidence . I will include you in my prayer tonight. May the blessing of almighty God, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, come down on you and remain with you for ever.

As a widow, I can tell you that Jesus's words declaring that we are no longer married to each other when we die were very hard for me to accept, even though I had been a born-again Christian for 29 years when my husband died. I knew I will see him again, but knowing that we will never again have the exclusive relationship we had was almost unbearable. But God made it bearable.
I came to realize that God and Jesus are so glorious and wonderful, and we will be so grateful to be with Him, that we will not miss anything we had on earth. Our earthly relationships will be transformed into a greater love than we even had here.
When I see my husband again, I will know him but in a relationship that is better than ever. Every member of heaven is be so full of the love of God, we will not favor one over the other. We will just love!
If you and your family all repent of your sins and give Jesus Christ control of all things, you WILL be together with the Lord when you die. Yes, heaven is very real!

Just keep in mind such claims have no biblical basis and can be seen as going against the bible. II Corinthians 12 Paul says "was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell".
How is it Paul was not permitted to tell all he saw, yet so many people in modern times are given no restrictions and write books, most making money, to tell all to the entire world?
It all sounds fishy to me.

First of all, if you are in Christ, then you have nothing to worry about regarding death, for those in Christ who have physically died in Him will be resurrected and those who are still alive when the resurrection takes place will be transformed and caught up with them to meet the Lord in the air. Your concern about your family and/or friends is exactly why Paul wrote to the Thessalonians telling them not grieve like the rest of mankind who die and have no hope.

"Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words."

All who have died in Christ have the hope of the resurrection. Those who are alive when it happens, have the hope of being changed and caught up. However, the cause for concern are those who are not in Christ and die without having faith in Him. Though you can pray for them, be in example in your life and testify about Christ to them, you cannot have faith for them.

In regards to heaven being real, God is not a man to lie, nor the Son of Man to repent, therefore what He has written in His word you can trust in, being sure of.

FYI there ARE many things in her book where she says 'I am forbidden to speak of certain things here' and I'm sure I said it is simply a beautiful vision she had of being carried to Heaven while going through an illness. I didn't lose my salvation after reading it. It's very beautiful obviously not for everyone.

Heaven must be real because Jesus said it was. Anyone who could predict His death by the worst way possible and say that He was going to rise back to life again while going into that death without a fight has to be either insane or believe what He said He believed.
Jesus promised that He was preparing a place for us in heaven with His death and resurrection. He fulfilled every Jewish scripture (along with the writings of other spiritual groups) that said Who the Messiah would be, what He would be like, where He would live, what He would do and when He would walk on the earth. We can trust Jesus completely.
