"I believe... in the resurrection of flesh..."
Apostles' Creed

Why cannot we live as spirits, after we leave this body when it dies? Why is it better to have the old body resurrected (though with new super-properties)?

This is what I believe...........

1 Corinthians 15:39) All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

40There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

42So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

43It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:

44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

46Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

47The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

48As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

49And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal mustput on immortality.

54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our resurrected bodies will not be as these feeble earthen shells we live in now.

Because the bodies can do all kinds of cool stuff. Bodies are more aware, not just disembodied spirits.

You cant play basketball as a spirit. You can with a body.

How do you figure that? The Angels play Baseball. Not very well, I grant you, but they do play.

when He first created man He looked and saw it was very good. and Adam had a body which was made of dust. good.

He has a purpose for that, evidently. same reason He isn't just making a spirit earth, but a new one.

Jesus was able to appear to many all at the same time, appear in a
locked room, but he was still able to eat, talk, walk.

I think I’m going to enjoy my resurrected body!

At death the Christian is "translated/raised" into the new spiritual body as Paul states:

1 Cor 15:44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

What is a spiritual body? I believe it is spirit. Of course, Christ ascended and came back in a physical body. I think Jesus' body might have been for recognition purposes. Also, to fulfill the prophecy that His body would not see corruption: Psalms 16:10: "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." In any case I cannot see Jesus going for all eternity with those holes in His body. He also generated physical bodies for Himself and two angels (cherubim?) in the Plains of Mamre to talk to Abraham. He is God, He can do anything he wants. Spirits can walk through walls and doors. God does not need a body. Although Christ said He would eat and drink with us in the kingdom, so we will have this capacity also. If we kept a body all the time, we would have to eat and drink and breath oxygen. But life resides in the spirit.

John 4:24: “God is a spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”

2 Cor. 3:17,18: “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” This suggests that we will be made into the sons of God, with our makeup similar. Thus, we will be spirits.

We would not even recognize Him in His glorified form. 2 Corinthians 5:16: "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more." He is now in glory.

Everything made in our universe was made by the unseen (spirits).

Hebrews 11:3: “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

1 Timothy 1:17: “ Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

This is all about our feeble brains trying to understand the infinite things of the spirit world. Our salvation might not depend on our interpretation and getting everything right, but God will share with us if our minds are open.

Our spirits are joined with the Holy Spirit (only partly) like Jesus and the Father are joined. Their union is perfect and complete. That is what make God: God. That is why He can be everywhere at once. Once we put off our fleshly bodies, we will be more completed as spirits. There will different levels of reward and completeness as is suggested in the scriptures. He will reward everyone according to their works. See the parable of the talents starting at Matt. 25:14.

Study the words inspired to describe the resurrected body......

Heavenly, from ABOVE, Spiritual, Astral, Celestial, Ethereal, in miraculous power <----all of these words or ideas found under the verbiage of 1st Corinthians 15........bodies that can dwell in the presence of God...................both immaterial and material at the same time........being able to appear in room with a shut door yet able to be handled.......beyond our cognitive ability to fully grasp with these finite minds

Evil spirits seek to posses a mortal because they are tormented by the dryness of the medium that they abide in.

"It is not yet evident what we shall be, but we know that when he appears, we shall see him as he is for we shall be like him." In our resurrection bodies put on in the twinkling of an eye.

The angels are spirits. But since God created man in His own image and likeness, and Christ took the form of a man, it follows that human beings would be distinguished from angels by having resurrected and glorified bodies resembling that of Christ. We are to made into the image and likeness of Christ.

Those who die in Christ do live as souls and spirits in Heaven until the resurrection of the saints (actually the Resurrection/Rapture), at which time they receive their glorified bodies with supernatural capabilities.

Traditional 'folk Christian' belief is that you die and go to heaven and live there as a disembodied spirit. The Bible does not directly state that you go to heaven when you die. Some people infer this from Paul's statement that it is better to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. But dying and going to heaven is not emphazed. None of the apostles or other preachers we read about in Acts preach to their audiences that they should repent so they can die or go to heaven. Paul preached about the resurrection and the judgment. Paul, in Acts, is very resurrection-focused, for example in Athens and later after he had been bound in the temple. He made the resurrection of the dead a key point of his trial before the Jews.

Since it is written, thy kingdom come thou shall be done on earth as it is heaven, with heaven being the expanse which was created in Genesis 1:1, you might say that one is still in this universe, which might be the reason Jesus told the eleven in Jerusalem after his resurrection who believed they had seen a spirit, "for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have."

The Bible does not directly state that you go to heaven when you die.
Seeing that it is written in James 2:26, "For the body without the spirit is dead..." maybe it should be understood why it is not directly stated in the Bible since man doth not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth from the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

Some people infer this from Paul's statement that it is better to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. But dying and going to heaven is not emphazed.
Of course it is better to be absent from the body and present with the LORD if one is not present with the LORD while they are in the flesh. Look at what is written in Deuteronomy 18:18 and then listen to what Jesus said to the malefactor on the cross, "To day ye shall be with me in paradise." (See Matthew 12:40)

CHURCHianity has perverted every key biblical word.
With the 'Immortal Soul' deception, they HAVE to play musical chairs with death, soul, spirit, and resurrection.
Adam WAS a soul- as we ALL are; and those chose to go to heaven will; be transformed into SPIRIT beings instead of HUMAN beings.
Contrary to Satan, Churchianity & World Religions- we DO die, and WILL be resurrected at the Appointed Time- just as prophet, Christ and Apostles foretold.

I'm of the opinion that the resurrection for they who believe in the Spirit and are spiritually minded will yield them a spiritual body; while they who are carnally minded will be reincarnated into the carnal world they love.

Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Yet Jesus said (as his God & Father did) that the meek will inherit the Earth, and Peter that the righteous will live on it forever!
