True story: There used to be a trucker/ Long Shoreman bar Called Shipwrecked Joey's (on the corner of B and Figueroa, Deade) They had a ratty, tattered 48 star flag ripped by wind and stained by smog. It was disgraceful. So some surfers from Pedro High stole the new School flag, went to joey's and switched flags. Had a funeral in the parking lot and cremated the old flag like you're SUPPOSED TO DO. The knuckleheads at the bar at 7am saw a group of long hairs burning a flag and reacted like The surfers were commies and came out to kick some butts. But luckily the LAPD harbor division 1/2 mile away were changing shift at the same time and saved the day! Whew! Close call.
Yeah, I remember the surfers used to like long hair. We "hodads" did go the long hair route. In my wild oats days I didn't even like the Beach Boy's music jammin up my radio. It seems funny now, because they seem like the oldies but goodies.
Most of the surfers I knew couldn't stand the Beach Boys. And they couldn't surf either! We considered hodads surfers by the 70's Surfer became an identity by then. The sport had fizzled out by then.
Surfing was replaced by dirt bikes,replaced by 4 x 4's, rickey racers and I stopped paying attention. Who cares what's popular now in 5 years it will just be a waste of money.
I remember when an early falsetto song came out "I Like Peanut Butter" on the radio. Casey Kasem made a statement something like "I am glad he said he was a man. It didn't seem so to me." I laughed my A** off. That was my objection to the Beach Boy's, they used those high pitches all the time. I meant we "hodads" did NOT go the long hair...
Well 8 years later hodads were wanna be surfers. Like the Beach Boys lolol. Mainly jocks (or Catholic school boys) kept short hair. So it couldn't be pulled. Collar length, non tapered, was average. The Beatles were already history. The Beach boys Could never top Good Vibration and got stuck in time. The Eagles and southern rock were coming on strong and resisted heavy metal, disco and rap. But times change. Ha! My daughter caught me listening to the Grateful Dead and thought it was country music

If I saw a bunch of surfers burning a flag i would've assumed the same thing with all of the anti-american attitudes going around now.. But kudos to them for treating it with the utmost respect! It's funny now 46 years later but trust me it was frightening then. Plus we didn't think the bar would be full of drunks at dawn either.
Now it's nothing. Young folks aren't into cars or any type of vehicle anymore. They still watch youtube vids of ferraris and stuff but that's it. The fast and furious import mod scene is over and only folks with a good amount of money can afford the new muscle cars. Even motorcycles have lost popularity. This generation is more into social media and trying to be famous by going viral.
Are the golf ball sized fruit orange and sour like lemons? If it is then it's a mexican tea tree. I forget what they are called but my best friend had one in his backyard in L.A. Take the leaves and boil them, they make the best green tea with a little citrus kick.
Rickey racers are in red. Minecraft, angry birds and other junk that dosn't exist. Young minds are being addled by fantastic imagery and special effects. The new exercise? Eating power bars & looking at cartoons called Inter active video games. Even the pictures are fake.

This is poncirrus trifoliata, but it has a bunch of names. Known for its cold hardiness in the northeast. They are, and it could be the same but I've never heard it called that.
