why do you believe in god? what would you say?

i dont want any "well its logical or its right blah blah blah"
i want a basic answer..
please?

Good question!

I became a believer when I was 30 though I was leading up to it since my teens. I'm a slow learner ;)

First, what spoke to me was God's creation. As a teen I would take my dog for a walk in the woods around a lake at a nearby park. I was in a lot of emotional pain because of my distant family relationships and hard things going on at school. The peace and serenity just really spoke to me. It said 'I love you'. I know that's corny but it really got me through a lot.

So, God's creation speaks of His existence. Our complicated bodies speak of an intelligent designer. Science speaks of God. Everything speaks of His existence.

But one thing that REALLY demonstrates His existence and His power is changed lives. Read some testimonies. Especially from criminals. You'll see that only a miracle changed these people. The power of God changed ME. I'm not a criminal but I'm a sinner and I needed saving big time.

God reaches people in different ways. But whoever seeks Him, WILL find Him.

hmmm. I think I'd say that I can kinda feel him, a bit like one feels inside when one is very happy, or seems something nice, or gets a hug.
And that I think (although some disagree) that all these beautiful things on earth must have been made by someone at some point, rather than "popping into existence" randomly

I would explain to the child that I know God like I know any person, through experiencing them, and God has revealed himself to me through Scripture and in life. But our experience of God is somewhat unlike our experience of humans. Part of our experience with other humans is physical. We see them, touch them, etc. because humans are physical creatures. But God isn't physical and so our experience with him isn't physical either. Still, we can read Scripture and read what God has said and how God has acted throughout history and we can learn about his plan for our own lives. As we know God more over time, it's easier to see God's actions of love, guidance, and discipline in our own lives.

only one person explained it to a four year old
yes i know that logic crap and i dont believe it so give me something that is so simple and basic that a four year old would say dherr

I would say I believe in God because of Jesus. Jesus was a man who lived a long time ago and told us all about God. Jesus was a very nice man, and he did amazing things like help people who couldn't see to see again, or help people who couldn't walk to walk again. A lot of people loved Jesus very much, but one day some very bad people killed Jesus on the cross. That was a very sad day. But Jesus didn't stay dead! He came back to life and told everybody that God brought him back to life, and that God loves us very much. That is why I believe in God.

Honestly, it is logical to believe in God. Einstein believed in God before he died, based on his theories of the universe, but he didn't pick a religion to what God he believed in. One reason to believe in God is DNA and how it is designed. Let me explain:

DNA is a code. It is the coding of the human body and all life on earth. Every cell in your body has the same DNA, or in a simpler term, coding. Another example of code is computer codes. The computer you are on right now is using code. Every program you access is using code, every website is using code, and every action done on the computer is because of coding.

Code just means a collection of laws, so if you hit the letter "A" on your keyboard, the code in your computer will know to put the letter "A" on the computer screen. Someone programmed the code so it would know to do this, so if you've ever heard of "programmers" that is what they do. They write a series of instructions, using code, to show the computer what to do in a certain situation.

Aside from computers, some other types of codes are music, blueprints, bar-codes, area codes, and language.
What's one thing every code has in common? They are designed by someone. It is impossible for code not to be designed because coding has laws, and if those laws aren't followed, the code doesn't work.

The funny part about this is, DNA is the most advanced coding system on our planet, yet, people don't believe it was designed. If you believe in God, it makes logical sense that God created DNA and all the life on this planet because he designed it. If you don't believe in God, it means either A. DNA just randomly happened, or B. There is no explanation.

So that, to me, is a pretty good logical reason to believe in God, since a majority of the Bible actually goes hand-in-hand with Science.

Thatonegermex....thank you!!! Your explanation of DNA being actual code... and code being a collection of laws is fantastic! (although probably will go over the top of a four year old)

I have a very close friend, who is a software engineer. And is searching for meaning in his life. He has been asking me questions, however as I am a feelings based person have been struggling to find the right answers and explanations. I have been praying for the right thing to say... I think this may register.

Thanks again ;)

Look him/her in the eye, and say, "Because He made YOU!"

I would say I believe in God because he made all things and he loves us. He created his son Jesus to help all of mankind. Jesus had to help man kind because man had done some really bad things that God didnt like. So instead of getting rid of everyone he sent his son, who basically was a part of him in human form, to die for all of the bad things humans do, did, and are going to do...l;ast I would say we all do bad things, and his son, Jesus, died so we wont have to...that is why I believe in God.:D

I'd ash him why he believes in peanut butter.
Because they both exist.

lol. That probably is the best answer for a four year old. They really don't have the ability to think with much abstraction at that age and are unlikely to question the existence of anything.
