Abalones are just sea snails but they attach themselves to rocks and are very difficult to pry off. Flat springs make perfect knives for that. But you have to oil them afterwards.

Yuck.....who eats s-cargo haha not me...I will eat seaweed, pine bark and grass before I ever eat a snail haahhahhahahahah
 
They're valuable $$$ restaurants that specialize in them pay top $$$. You're only allowed 2 in possession or fish & game will be very unpleased.
Dont think theyll on my menu anytime soon either..lol..of course..like a lot of things..they could "taste just like chicken" ;)

Grunion is another weird fish, I crawls ashore in the fall and lays eggs in the sand. By law we're only allowed to capture them by hand, no hooks or nets allowed.

Ive HEARD bout grunion runs...can dry them..multiple uses..not just to eat..

It's something people do with their kids. I caught one with a hook once from a pier and before I could throw it back some dude asked if he could have it. Fish & game showed up later, he got a $500 fine.
